Patriot Act 2

Not sure if you guys talked about this already but the government is trying to pass Patriot Act II. Basically saying that goventment officials (police as well) can run up in your house at any time for any reason, with no probable cause. They can tap for your phone and monitor your day to day life, with no probable cause. Today they are discussing putting an expiration date on the bill instead of making it permanent.

Check It Out.

As time passes we will have less and less privacy.

azguy 07-21-2005 01:07 PM

The EFF has the solution :) http://tor.eff.org/

davethetruth 07-21-2005 02:15 PM

Yes, this has been discussed to all ends.

I like the people like 12clicks that argue FOR the patriot act :)

Downtime 07-21-2005 02:18 PM

I don't have anything wrong with it, I'm not hiding anything and it will make this country a lot safer.

This is a common statement, but of course you've never been accused of doing something illegal when you did nothing wrong, so you probably wouldn't uderstand.

"This [the U.S. Constitution] is likely to be administered for a course of years and then end in despotism... when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other."

Skillz Unlimited 07-21-2005 02:39 PM

Bush does suck. It's one thing to make the country safer but you know some of these so called officers of the law will abuse the privelage.

I smell dictatorship.

Rinaldo 07-21-2005 02:42 PM

are you all drug dealers?
It shouldn't effect you. Fuck privacy, if they want to listen to me have phone sex that's their shit not mine.

After Shock Media 07-21-2005 02:43 PM

Honestly fuck safety if it impacts on our freedom.
Safety is just an illusion anyways, and sadly our freedom is becoming more of one itself every day.

They shouldnt be able to listen in whenever they wanted. What I do in the privacy of my house should stay private. I hope that shit never passes. Our "freedom" is slowly dying.

bbe 07-21-2005 03:16 PM

Check section 802 of the first one, it makes us all terrorists.

For any tard claiming you have nothing to worry about if your not doing anything wrong, that doesn't pass the giggle test. Try reading some news, the abuses have been rampant.

Some people are so fucking stupid ... they need to pickup history books .

Every country that tried to have too much control on it's people lost power ... but with the new technology, it might be another story ;)

In Cuba, if you put your cofee cup on the face of Fidel Castro on the morning paper, you can go to jail ...

When Stalin was in power, he killed so many of his people ... everybody was scared of everybody else . Is that what you guys want to happen ? A regime of terror ? That's where it's slowly heading ...

Just look at the "emergency" systems on cars . My father got one on his new ride, and he bitches everytime he hits it by accident... that's about the only use for canadians ... and some other people couldn't have a car without it nowdays because they are scared of their own shadows...

Do americans really think the "terror level" have ANYTHING at all to do with reality ? Why should people know ?

BradM 07-21-2005 03:25 PM

Most laws start out noble but end up being abused. Look at history.

The partiot act was made evil, and was just taken to the next level. Its intentions were never to protect americans, it was to monitor and police them.

I'm telling you, Americans now live in a police state. It's not a democracy.

blackfeet 07-21-2005 03:27 PM

i wish clinton was still in office.

we'd still have our freedom and make that BIG money we made in the late 90's on the internet.

Rich 07-21-2005 03:44 PM

Fuck privacy? Some of the people on this board are totally clueless. Fuck safety. How many people have died for the freedoms we have? Now you idiots are willing to give it away because you let the media scare you. Fucking pathetic. A handful of you would defend absolutely any action taken by this government, and that is seriously scary. Stop listening to Brittany Spears, children.

Why do you think Rome was so powerful? The mindless MOB.
The USA is the modern Rome. Bottom line. And the sheepish mindless mob keeps its furnaces fueled by doing its very bidding.

Sadly the majority of the population is like this. GFY is liberal. Imagine the conservative south.

Paco, of Large Cash. 07-21-2005 03:50 PM

That is what I would have expected from a fascist dictator, such as Mussolini or Hitler, not from a 'free' society. (I thought it was all about evolving to something better, not regressing to the problems of the past.)

It is not about whether or not you have something to hide, it is about your supposed given rights or constitutional rights (such as privacy) ... or is that piece of paper only wiped-out when the government threatens the porn industry.

... and people are worried about someone (aside from a letter carrier) placing something in their mailbox.

Linkster 07-21-2005 04:04 PM

Since I ranted about this elsewhere here I wont go into the full diatribe - but put simply - we do not live in a democracy - there was never any intention for the Union of States to be a democracy - it is a republic (check the wording of the pledge of allegiance since I assume most here at least went to elementry school) In a republic you are governed by the will of the leadership wheras in a democracy you are governed by the will of the people - completely different beasts.

As far as freedoms that you will give up in the new Patriot Act - if you subscribe to them then you would no longer be a patriotic American citizen in my book - you have just given away every freedom I spent 12 years in the military for - guess I wasted my time - I guess my friends wasted their lives as well.
Of course this all assumes you were a patriotic American in the first place and performed your civil duties to vote for the people that govern you - if not - again I wouldnt give you the time of day to complain about any part of this or the loss of your freedoms. My opinion of course - but then I guess I'm allowed to have one since I do vote and take part in the "political governmental process"

Code_Havoc 07-21-2005 04:14 PM

I don't understand people who say "its not safe anymore!" These people could've been blowing shit up any time they wanted since their births, they JUST started and only now all our safety is gone? Ya it's more dangerous cause of them doing it, but don't act like they couldn't have done it in the past.

And as for Bush and his excuse of a career; welcome the Fourth Reich

Actually I had the opportunity on two occasions to visit and had a heck of a great time - one of them getting totally wasted aboard a Can. destroyer in port with a bunch of friends in your Navy :)

tristan_D 07-21-2005 05:04 PM
