Why do you have your icq show as "available" when you are not "available?"
If you see me "available," rest assured, I am available.
And yes, I am actually online that much. I just don't get it. I have icq'd 5 people this morning that leave themselves set at "available" all the time. I believe that 80% of you do this. |
Nope. I'm usually set as Away or invisible.
|
I do the opposite - I'm always showing unavailable when 85% of the time I'm available :) Everyone I deal with knows that though - keeps the riff raff out ;)
|
Why do a lot of people who should be available always have themselves set at Non-Available?
I know many sales reps do this 365. |
thats why i asked u to get on aim the other day
icq is so fucking stupid, i dont know why its our standard its the people who are always away the piss me off. i know you are there, but it shows u away. i hit u up, bling u are there. why hide? |

And then, it is back to square one. You may or may not be there. You might as well show as "available" all the time. I don't get it. But I am not that smart so it is par for the course haha |

I use AIM a lot. Hell man, if someone shows "available" on icq, I will see, pending I have the contact, if their AIM is online so I don't waste my time. |
I have all the WEG peeps on AIM - that way I leave it on during "working hours" and they can harass me constantly :)
|
What I hate more than any of this is the "Hi are you there?" messages.
IT'S A TEXT CHAT MEDIUM PEOPLE!!! Type what you need, then move on and I will answer when I am around. But usually by the time I get back to them they are no longer around and I spend a day or two to find out what they wanted. |

Haha... I admit, I roam around a lot. So I may be walking around but if I show available, I am getting your message (pending there aren't tech issues with the connection). I have been up and online since about 7am working on this promotion stuff. I am about to go swim some laps in the pool and take Chopper off. I will turn set myself to "away." haha |

I show as available all the time, I can't really be bothered to put myself on N/A everytime I leave... *shrugs*

Hell, if riff raff hits me up, which is rare, I just don't reply. |

I have to say, Poppy is great about it. If that dude shows online, you bet he is.

You set that yet? |
Having a username of "brand0n" or "WEGCory" brings different folks to ICQ than having "Peaches" :)
|
I do it, because I never take the time to change it. And my laptop is usually online 24/7
|
It is nothing personal, everyone does their thing one way for a reason I suppose. I just don't see the logics involved.
But as I said, I am not a bright one apparently. |

I know I have that setting on MSN, but I turned that off, because most of the people on msn are only bothering me while I'm working so I just don't answer, but as soon as I left for 5 minutes and came back afterwards, msn switched to away, and after that back to online as soon as I started using my computer again... people would know I was back and start talking to me again :P It's also a possibility to set myself at 'away' all the time, but I don't like that :P |

What program are you using, Cory? And what are those times after the usernames?

Adium.
The times tell me how long someone has been away. For example, when Chris goes to Vegas, it can read 3 days, 42 minutes. haha But it only works if people are on timed prefs. Chris and Poppy both are. They both use PCs. |
i just stay in n/a mode all the time. why? because most of the time i am on the computer i am busy with one thing or another and i rather have ppl think i am just not there than ignoring them but i always respond to whoever messages me when i get a few minutes.

maybe I should do that as well.. rofl @ Juicylinks Da Guido !! :1orglaugh |
It's too complicated. I use ICQ and Yahoo regularly, and MSN every once in a while. I use at least 4 different computers and my phone, all running different OS's, at different locations. Sometimes I use the stock interface for each client, sometimes Trillian, sometimes GAIM. They all have different settings, different timers, different away messages, etc.
If I'm on, I'll respond. If I'm gone, I'll respond when I get back. |

Sometime later when I have more time. |
I remain invisible unless I have time to talk. Normally this applies when I am in the middle of 'business' and dealing with one person in particular, or grabbing offlines. If I do not have time to chat for more than a few minutes, I stay invisible. If I have time to shoot the breeze, then I will be otherwise.
:rasta |
I always leave my icq on invisible. I got in the hang of it a few years ago when my icq was going off left and right with spam (ifriends etc.. fake spam messages).
Plus it keeps people from icqing me just to chat about nothing when they're bored. But I am online practically 24 hours a day regardless and usually very prompt at returning icq's/emails. |

It is dependent on your job no doubt.
|
They probably never log off when they step away
|
I constantly get messages from people when I'm set to away or not available... even when I'm offline.
Why?? Because people are used to everyone else being set to something other than "available." I asked someone once, why message me if I'm "not available" and they said "because I am always set to not available when I'm online so I figured you would be there too" Sorry, I actually use the icq away messages for what they're intended. If I'm not available, don't expect me to be available. |
