So I live in a cul-de-sac full of families and my dogs got out
 

So I ran out of the house today to the Coffee shop, and I must not have pulled the front door closed all the way. While I was gone all three Rottweilers got out and roamed the neighborhood. One Neighbor, in fear of his life, jumped over his fence to get away from the "growling" pack.

In reality, my dogs aren't vicious in the least, but 340 pounds of Rottweilers roaming the streets is apparently too much for the parents of young children.

Poor guy comes over and says "Well we basically found out we can't do anything about your dogs unless they bite someone. My wife is just livid though, I mean she's ready to tear a piece out of you." I just laughed and said "Look I do my best to keep the dogs inside, I'm sorry they got out, it was a mistake, and even so nothing happened. Nobody got mauled, nobody got bitten, nobody got chased. You all just got a little scare, that's it. I'm not getting rid of the dogs and you're right there's nothing you can do about that. I'm sorry your wife is upset."

Vancouver has the biggest whinning bitches when it comes to dogs.

Winnipeg isnt' much better. Even when I'm standing right there next to him, some people walk by and feel the need to open their traps about him not being on a chain...... yet he's standing on my own property in my yard and not bothering anyone in the least.

Best bet is to put a fence up around the property, as much to keep idiots out as it is to keep the dog in.

If I had kids on that street I would have gotten in your face to make my point loud and clear that you better smarten up and not let that happen again. Yeah well the thing is I'm 6'0 about 220 pounds, and this guy is maybe 5'8 150 pounds and afraid of my dogs. No chance he was going to "get in my face".

Besides, like I said, I apologized. I try my best to not let the dogs roam, I've spent a good deal of time and money repairing the fences in the back and what not. Clearly I didn't mean to leave my front door open, unlocked and flapping in the wind. I understand you have to be protective of your children, and three big dogs roaming are still three big dogs roaming. I didn't give the guy a hard time because I feel bad for him.

If I seen a Rottweiler roaming the streets with no owner I would be worried.

I really don't understand why you think the other people are being assholes about it. From what I understand, and what most people perceive to be true, is rottweilers are very protective, loyal, and territorial dogs. They love their owners but do not get along well with others.

Knowing that, why would you expect others with kids to brush off the situation? Be happy your dogs are still alive, I know plenty of people that would have shot them.

You can't stereotype a dog anymore than you can a person. There are plenty of shelties, poodles and collies that are plenty more dangerous than my dogs are. The simple fact is my dogs are not aggressive, they are not vicious, they do not bite.

If somebody shot my dogs because they somehow thought they were being preventitive, I'd be tempted to shoot the guy. At very least I'd beat them, in front of their children, and maybe even beat their children too. Fucking with my dogs is like fucking with someones children, don't do it.

You can stereotype both dogs and people just fine. Stereotypes exist for a reason, they aren't just randomly created. It is true though that a lot of times stereotypes are formed based on misperceptions. And like I mentioned above, most people perceive rottweilers to be very aggressive dogs. Whether your particular 3 dogs are aggressive or not does change the fact that people are afraid of rottweilers.

Obviously you're a responsible person and this was a mistake, and like you said, you can understand why your neighbors were upset.

Stupid dog owners like myself? I small mistake happens, one time my dogs get out. While they're out they hurt nobody and do no damage. They're back in withing 15-20 minutes of getting out. Net damage, nothing. To put it in perspective, for the year I've lived at this house the children have had complete run of the cul de sac for the entire time minus 15 minutes my dogs accidentally got out.

My dogs would never kill anybody, period. My dogs aren't vicious. No particular breed of dog, no matter what you might think, is inheritly more vicious than any other.

So basically you'd kill my harmless, friendly dogs, for accidentally getting out and not causing any damage. You're calling me the stupid dangerous one? Wow.

I live across the street from the seawall and see this situation daily and would like your thoughts:

Father walking with young 3 yr old daughter by the water enjoying the day. Coming the other way is a large dog not on leash running towards the daughter. Father not sure if dog is friendly or will maul daughter. Father doesn't have time to scoop up daughter in his arms and has to make a quick decision whether to kick the dog in the face as it bears down on daughter. If I was a protective father this would be a situation that would cause my heart to race and stress that would hit the roof trying to figure out how to react. Owner shows up 2 minutes later with attitude like stop being such a pussy dad. I see this daily and it sickens me.

Well if my dogs were attacking somebody, and somebody shot them to stop it, then that'd be just the way she goes. As far as shooting friendly dogs because you think they MIGHT hurt someone, that pushes my buttons.

It's not just roaming dogs....A lot of these dogs are simply too big for their owners to control even while leashed.

I live near an area in the city where people are inclined to let their dogs run free and I have been chased more than a few times. I told one lady that if her dogs lunged at me again I would get my car and run them down. She finally got the message.

Having dogs this large in a city residence just isn't reasonable. If you want a pet get a poodle. If you want to harass your neighbours, scare their kids and be an ass get a Rotweiler.

That's a retarded situation. Dogs should be leashed, period. When I take my dogs anywhere, they're leashed and on choke collars. I think people have every right to be upset when dog's are running around unleashed. It's irresponsible.

The other day, I was walking my dogs and two terrier sized dogs try to attack them, I was able to control my dogs and keep the terriers from getting killed, but the lady who owns these dogs was giving my dirty looks. Her dogs, not on leashes run off her property and start a fight with my dogs on their leashes and somehow this is my fault? :helpme

If you know anything about dogs ,good dogs could turned bad very quickly groups of dogs over two start to exhibit pack behavior ,which can turn very bad very quickly.You should be saying your sorry to your neighbors, dogs just dont get out.

My point was in reference to your preventative action stance in earlier post. I am just saying that here downtown by English Bay, dog owners by the hundreds everyday put people in these extremely uncomfortable scenerios where they don't know if they need to take immediate preventative action against a running dog coming at their kids or them. This goes down almost every minute of every day along the seawall. I am sure 99.9% of time the dog wants to say hi, but...

that's why I walk around the neighborhood with a good strong stick...niggas around here don't know how to tie up their dogs...if one comes at me, it'll get severely fucked up and I dare the owner to say something.

In my neighborhood, if a dog roams onto my property and I feel threatened in the least, I'll shoot first and ask questions later. I've been attacked by dogs and see no reason to take a chance. The "you can't do anything about it" concept works both ways. You can't do anything about me shooting your dogs if they come on my property.

A guy parked his car near my place, let his dog out off leash who proceeded to chase my cat up a tree and I had to run to stop the dog from killing my cat and bring him to the owner, and he says "Oh he normally doesn't act like that" to which I said "Yeah, and I don't normally slash people's tires, enjoy your walk"

Well no I can do one thing about it, I can not live in the gun toting US of A. If you pulled out a gun and shot a dog here in Canada, you'd be in a world of hurt legal wise. :thumbsup
