Canadians, chill out already. Its a russian chick who won Miss Universe title.

She was born in Tuapse, russian Black Sea port town, spend all childhood in Russia. Her parents are Russians. She studied in russian school until they took her in Toronto when she was 12. She spent less than half of her life in Canada.
And look at this pretty face and eyes... Only russian women can have such spectacular unique exterior.
Canadians can do a lot of good things, like a lot of ice hockey talent, but when it comes to beautiful girls, the fact that you have Miss Universe tiltle is nothing but a coincedence. Therefore i dont understand all the rapture sparked by canadian gfyers lately...

CDSmith 05-31-2005 10:27 AM

If a Canadian girl moved to Russia and became a citizen there, then won miss Universe they would claim her as one of their own too.

Don't be such an idiot. Be happy.

for her.

For Canada, the country she represents.

Stop crying.

Wheeeee! Let's all take credit for something we didn't do so we can pretend we are part of something larger than ourselves in order to promote our own personal significance and to convince ourselves, if not the rest of the world, that we really matter and that our lives are worthwhile.

You're all pathetic irrational nationalistic bandwagon jumpers. See my sig.

Manowar 05-31-2005 11:13 AM

It's fitting, Canada has the 2nd highest % of immigrant citizens in the world. (.AU #1).
Congrats.

I moved to Canada when I was 21, from England. I'm now a Canadian Citizen. Based on THIS thread, I shouldn't consider myself Canadian though, I should consider myself English - and if I were to accomplish something when representing my 'country', based on THIS thread, I should represent as English and not Canadian.

I think that it speaks more for a country when people CHOOSE to become citizens of that country. Just like the old saying; you can't pick your parents/family, but you can pick your friends. Well, you can't pick where you're born, but you can sure pick which country you want to be a citizen of (well, pretty much).

Therefore, the fact that she represented as Miss Canada speaks for this great country and everything we Canadian's hold dear about it.

:321GFY to the haters!

Just my :2 cents: :winkwink:

nico-t 05-31-2005 11:20 AM

The group of ppl from the US being negative about canada gotta have something to do with jealousy. What the hell did canada ever done to you? Get a fucking life. Its very pathetic.

Me too, it's a shopping hotbed for Russian store owners and merchants..

Anyhow, let us Canadians rejoice in a rare moment of victory, albeit a Miss Universe pageant. We stink at the Olympics in general, have no basketball team worth mentioning (just Nash), soccer? fugedaboudit, tennis, golf (okay, where is Weir now?) etc. etc. etc.

So we got a little over-zealous. Stop bitching and crying Mr. Edison it'll be awhile before we get the chance again!

Here you are bitching in another Miss Universe thread, boy, you really have some deep hostility towards Canada, Canadians, Canadian women, all three or you're just really miffed "your" lady didn't win.

I didn't see anyone "take credit" for her winning, we're just mini-celebrating and boasting that one of our own won.

And as to the fact she was born somewhere else, all I can say is that she wore the Canadian ribbon. She lives in Canada. She belongs to us -- and you can't have her. So with all due respect, stfu, and go complain about something even moderatly important ... this is GFY, it shouldn't be hard to find a more worthwhile drama for your seriously built-up frustration!

:pimp

GFYeveryone 05-31-2005 11:27 AM

It's a toss up. She's legally canadian, but technically, she's a russian. She was born there and lived more than half her life there. Her blood is russian. Just because her parents decided to move her to canada, and become a citizen, doesn't change the fact that she's a russian who had no choice but to move with her parents. Unfortunately we have so many damn immigrants, that we can't get a REAL canadian, (born and bred here who lived here their whole life.) There are beautiful canadians who they could have chosen from, it just sucks that they chose a russian to represent canada.

They chose the most beautiful/talented/whatever Canadian. It was her. Why on earth do you or anyone care that's she's not a "real" Canadian?

Should Ben Johnson not have been selected to run the 100M in 1988 because he wasn't born here? (okay, bad example!)

But you get the point. Maybe I'm misreading your post, but your argument is totally ridiculous and basically racist -> we should ONLY select REAL (i.e. born and raised here) Canadians to represent our country??

You make waaay too many assumptions, and they're all wrong.

I love Canada and Canadian people, I just like to point out irrational human behaviour.

Nah, you understood me right... and yes REAL ie; born and raised here. What's next, we gonna have an arab representing canada?? I'm almost surprised miss canada wasn't asian or arab!! SO many damn immigrants here now, canada is too damn leniant!

and now your going to explain what bandwagon i jumped on , or why i'm irrational or why you would assume i am "nationalistic" ?? prob not because you have nothing valid to base those statements on, you just generalized everyone in the thread because of your own irrationalism.

If you had actually read what i wrote , you would see i merely stated a fact that you cant deny..

She is canadian period , get over it ..

I suppose stating a fact like what it says on her canadian passport is "irrational" and "bandwagon jumping ?"

I suppose i should have stayed off the bandwagon and inserted a random country into her passport she doesnt own ??

Guess what... the girl is ugly i could care less, i wouldnt fuck most of the girls in that comp.

4+4 doesn't equal 9 because 4 was born in 5land.. it equals 8. Only an irrational person would claim otherwise. :winkwink: :thumbsup

No, his assumptions are all correct.

And thanks for loving Canada, but that desn't change the fact that you are a whiney little bitch who can't stand to see anyone be happy about something that only happens maybe once every 30 years or so (if that).

Btw, Wayne Gretzky is of Russian descent.

Should we not have cheered for Canada all those times our team won gold?

Didn't see Russians trying to take some of the credit for him back then, why now with this chick?

Yeah, talk to me about pathetic, idiots. :1orglaugh

Unless you hadn't noticed, I posted what I posted because it's fun to fuck with the massive inferiority complex that infests Canadian culture. Just like it's fun to fuck with the massive superiority complex that infests American culture.

Anyway....I guarantee that 99% of Canadians could not name this girl before she won Miss Universe, but once she wins, all of a sudden Canadians are on message boards making threads with titles saying "Canada Won Miss Universe!"

IMO nationalistic bandwagon jumpers are pathetic.

I congratulate the girl who won. I believe she deserves the credit. Canada didn't win, she did. I say congratulations to Natalie Glebova. By the way, Russia didn't win anything either, Natalie Glebova did.

People who go out of their way to proclaim that this is a win for Canada and Canadians do so probably because they have a desire to be part (take credit) of something larger than themselves in order to promote their own personal significance.

I never said people shouldn't be happy. I simply stated that they should put forward more congratulations towards the person who won, not the country, and certainly not the citizens of that country who had nothing to do with her win.

Be happy for her. She won. She is the winner.

It wasn't a win for Russia or Canada, it was a win for Natalie Glebova.

Much better way to word it . :thumbsup

You generalized everyone in the thread without reading what they wrote

I didnt even post in the other threads , i just stated a fact , she won , she is canadian , anyone who disagrees with that fact has a mental problem or is so nationalistic they cant see straight..

On one hand you say nationalistic bandwagon jumping is bad , but in the very next statement you say canada didnt win, she did.. I'm not sure if you watched the competition , but CANADA WON. You might have a hard time realizing that but its true :1orglaugh

I never disputed the fact that she's Canadian. My point has more to do with the fact that Canadians are desperate to gloat over this win because Canadians have a massive inferiority complex and will take any opportunity to make multiple threads on messageboards all over the internet to prove how great Canadians are. It's rather pathetic.

I would have to agree w/ smokey here...it was the "MISS UNIVERSE" pageant and she IS "MISS CANADA" she was representing CANADA as well as herself.

and what's this bs about "true" canadians?? aren't we all immigrants? From what I recall the history books say that no one is a "true" canadian.. :2 cents: btw, this not directed at you smokey ;)

Everyone has an opinion, you've just re-posted yours countless times in these Miss Universe threads over and over again. Obviously, YOU are the most guilty of "hav(ing) a desire to be part (take credit) of something larger than themselves in order to promote their own personal significance".

You've jumped all over this thing in a way that leads me to believe you are trying to take credit for showing us all that we have nothing to be proud of (to paraphrase)!
