Brushing your teeth

How many times a day? I do it after major meals, but not generally after snacks, except I try to give a good swishing with a glass of water.

You'd be better off to do that at night to get the sugars from sitting on your teeth all night. You likely do it in the morning because your mouth will feel / not taste the best.. brush at night, and your mouth will just be a little dry.. so down a glass of water and you'll be good... just trying to be helpful, please don't hate. :)

Close to 10 times a day. Then before bed floss and mouth wash.

three times a day its enough, some minuts after the main meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner. why some minuts? because your theeth enamel is fragilized after the meals and you should give it some time to recover. also your theeth brush should be medium, not very hard or very soft (these are used on special cases only)

that from a future dentist :)

I hope you're a) lying or b) have a really soft toothbrush, otherwise you're destroying your gums and will have seriously bad problems in the future..

Yeah, maybe you, and Project-Shadow should look into mouthwash. Never used it myself, don't really want to, but it'd definitely protect your mouth a bit more than doing nothing, of course still with brushing in the morning.

Der Schleicher 02-23-2005 11:48 AM

3 times a day should be enough.

Pimp Dough 02-23-2005 11:50 AM

You need to brush morning and night for very specific reasons. Elaborating on this would mean that you are hoosiers and need a hygiene course or two. Using a mouthwash 1 or 2 times a day is also not a bad idea. As stated above, someone mentioned rinsing with water. Great idea if you can't afford a toothbrush!

It usually takes people a few minutes to go brush their teeth after eating anyway... :) Some idea of not drinking anything other than water after you've brushed your teeth for a short while so the fluids in your mouth can give your teeth and gums a layer of protection / fill in grooves where sugars could then easily get into, or if hot liquid, burn and damage.

The Stickman 02-23-2005 11:52 AM

2 times a day
Floss once a day
Mouthwash once a day

My dentist would be so proud :thumbsup

Nysus 02-23-2005 11:52 AM

LOL. Yeah, most people don't care enough about their teeth so it's best to just try to get them to do as much as possible.. You really need to start when you're young though, proper care now, means strong teeth when your 50, 60, 70+ .. my grandfather still had 3 babyteeth when he died (they never fell out)..

I've never been able to get myself to floss...

Is morning or night better for flossing?

once in a week

thefool 02-23-2005 11:57 AM

When I wake up, after most meals, snacks if onion dip is involved, and after giving head

MIMIC 02-23-2005 11:58 AM

Usually, I brush once a day, but no more than twice.

I guess that's enough. I'm 19 and I've never had a cavity.

Pimp Dough 02-23-2005 11:58 AM

Night is best for flossing (after the buildup of food has gathered) in and around the tooth crevasses.

Odie 02-23-2005 12:01 PM

3 times a day and floss in the morning and at night..:)

Just make sure you're not leaving yourself open for gum disease. Not getting cavities just means your teeth are dense / strong. :)

That's what I used to do, just twice a day. Past few weeks I've been doing it after each big meal.

JimmyBones - Yeah, I wish I had cared when I was younger. One of my father's professions was a dentist so they always tried to push good oral hygiene, though they had to pay us to brush our teeth... my sister and I... which with the money I'd go to the candy store... :P

rowan 02-23-2005 12:40 PM

I brush twice a day with an electric toothbrush. I've recently started using non alcohol mouthwash, which is actually quite pleasant... no swishing to the point of having to spit it out prematurely because it burns like hell, and when I wake up my mouth isn't super dry. :)

I have been lazy in the past, and I've paid for it. Look after your teeth.

Oh yeah, I often chew sugar free gum after a sugary snack (I hate furry teeth), or after a meal when I'm out.

Juicyfruit all the way! It's good after snacks or eating on top of pulling out stuck food, but also gets your saliva glands gushing which will help clean out your mouth ... :)

Twice a day depends how dirty they feel before bed
