First of I am a guy and been married and divorced twice.

50% of marriges end in divorce..

Engagement ring are a fucken fortune..

I am in a relationship and she wants to get married and keeps telling me she wants over 2 carots. Thats like a minimal 10k. There is not a shot. The truth is having to buy an engagement ring is a part of the reason I don't want to get married.

I just don't get it. . Ithink women should get those cubic fake rings and be
able to trade them in for the real thing after 10 years of marrige. The fucken
diamond industry might go under especially with divorce rates of above 50%.
I just can't get that 50% divorce rate and engagement ring math. It just bogles my mind how us guys keep buying those fuckers..

If she's specifiying a carat size (and even better, demanding a ring at all) then toss her back, IMHO.

I truly thing giving a fake one and trading it in after 5 or 10 years marrage makes sense..

If your woman loves you, she wouldn't care about a ring.

Perhaps you would be better off putting more effort into your selection of life partner, and you wouldn't have to worry about buying multiple rings. Don't punish the 3rd girl, because you made 2 poor choices previous.

Diamonds don't loke their value at all, the only way they can gain or lose value is if their value cahnges in general, but not because you bought it. They are nothing like buying a car!

If a woman starts telling you what her carat requirements are then you need to run, not walk, away from her.

Its one thing to let you know her size and which style of diamond looks best on her hand (princess, marquise, etc etc) but the rest is bullshit.

If she really wants to be with you then she'll take a diamond chip and be happy with it because you gave it to her.

They don't really lose value its just that the markup is insane....they're triple keyed.

So if a diamond costs the jeweler 1K wholesale, they try to sell it to you for 3k....and if you negotiate you maybe get it for 2400.

Then if you try to sell it back later they tell you its worth 1K and that it "loses value" so that you won't know they raped you on the initial sale.

Short of carbon dating how would someone know the difference between a "new" and a "used" diamond anyways? They're millions of years old before they're mined aren't they?

Your right. I was in the Jewelery business for 5 years and a Diamonds value is only based on the quality and current market value. It doesn't matter if it was bought and sold 50 times or only 1. Mined 200 years ago or yesterday.

Most marriages fail because two people are growing and changing continually and the chances of them growing in the same direction so that they are still compatible are very small. No big deal, move on. How many current marriages are poisoning the couple and any children because they don't have the courage to admit that the marriage is over.

Ever made a choice in life which when looking back you would have done different?. That's part of life, no regrets, learn and live. The only way to get anywhere is to go for it. :)

OK, losing value was a bad way of putting it :winkwink: But it's rare you can EVER sell it for you paid for it. Buying at pawn shops is your best bet :)

They're marked up alright. There is enough diamond in African mines for everybody to wear an enormous rock. The diamond industry is one of the best controlled monopolies on earth.

I remember years and years ago a story on 60 minutes or one of the other news shows about a MASSIVE cache of diamonds in Russia that DeBeers was paying them not to release on the market.

I bought my wife what she deserved at the time and I picked it out myself I picked something she would be happy with for life and I think we will make it.

Give her a 3 kt cz. If she says before marriage, "why did you give me a fake ring" you know she's not the right one because she's getting it appraised.

Why does she want a 2 carat stone? I mean, specifically, WHY? If you really can't afford it, would she be willing to help with the costs? You have to talk to her about this. She sounds awfully materialistic by just saying "2 carats or else"! What really matters is the cut. Give me a WELL-CUT 1 carat stone any day over a poorly cut 2 carat stone. Hearts and arrows...yummy!! No offense people, but CZ is crap. It is not durable enough for years of daily use.
