this is because the US supports Israel with 3 billion a year in economic aid.

10$ a US citizen actually, and annually.

Greece 1.34 (22.50)

(Private donations are in parentheses where available)

I think Greece made a record again on private/public ratio

Nader 01-11-2005 05:09 PM

they should use some of the "Billion dollars" that America sends them every year

"Israel's army sent 82 tons of medical and humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka, and Israel's civilian rescue service, working with the Red Cross, dispatched a planeload of blood products. An additional 40 tons of supplies collected by private donors flew out Friday.

But an offer to deploy 150 seasoned military medics and support personnel to set up field hospitals was rejected, Israeli security officials said "

"Foreign Ministry director general Ron Prosor met Tuesday with senior Indonesian officials after an El Al plane landed in Indonesia for the first time in the company's history, delivering 80 tons of emergency supplies to tsunami victims.
The visit came despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations between Israel and Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim country."

And how much money did Israel donate? Well, let's look at the list. I see Japan, Australia, Portugal, USA, Canada. Where is Israel?

Oh, wait. That's right. Israel couldn't even donate a penny.

David! 01-11-2005 05:19 PM

Israel was the first country to send relief aid.
Sri Lanka at first refused a flying hospital from Isreal because they do not have diplomatic relations with Israel.
It is an Israeli team that is heading the deads identification in Thailand.

It actually does look like Israel is doing something, but i think a pinch of money wouldn't hurt.

Fletch XXX 01-11-2005 05:22 PM

so ironic.

on a page about tsunami aid, they are begging for more money for israel

http://www.haaretz.co.il/hasite/imag..._innerspot.gif

fucking get a clue or learn to grow rice.

canplayer 01-11-2005 05:27 PM

Well, there are a LOT of countries missing. I'm not sure if they are included in other donations but I don't see Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran. How about all the South American countries? panama, chile, equador, columbia?

We should get a new topic on each of the countries, that way you guys can bump your post counts and pretend your cool. Then you can post your pics from internext and I can lmao at the counter strike playing losers you guys are.

I don't understand why people start these posts. It leads to nothing but more comments bashing a country that the people bashing it know nothing about. Nothing personal against you DarkJedi, but before you make a post like this you really need to check your facts. Israel was the FIRST counntry to offer aid in the form of money, docs, supplies, food etc. NO other country had offered anything until Israel made the first offer. As every major news network reports both Sri Lanka and Indonesia REJECTED Israel's aid. They decided that their people would suffer becuase of political views. What else do you want them to do? Israel made an incredible humanitarian offer that was rejected. So people respond to this post by making comments like "cheap jew", and putting up silly pics.

I've said my piece.

Israel is usually one of the first countries to lend assistance in disasters, I think you can chalk this one up for a muslim country accepting help from a predominately Jewish state.

If you want to bitch about stingy countries, Saudi Arabia generally gives more money to suicide bombers families than any other charities.

This is true. I did not agree with the name calling, but at first, it did seem bad that Israel has $0 to their name. I can see where you are coming from though.

Looks like the cat's got Darkjedi's tongue. OR, he's in a very intense 'game' of counter strike and he can't leave his 'clan'.

Who said Israel is poor? I'm not sure if you understand all the posts about how Israel's donation was refused. I don't think we want to get in an arguement over why Israel needs such a strong army. You better stick to your swedish berries and not politics.

proof?

A spokesman for the Israeli Consulate in New York said the Sri Lankan ambassador to the United States, Devinda Subasinghe, contacted Daniel Ayalon, Israel?s U.S. ambassador, to deny that his country refused Israeli help.

Sri Lanka and Israel have ?close diplomatic relations,? according to a statement by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington. The Sri Lanka Embassy in Tel Aviv has been functioning since October 2000; Israel?s embassy in New Delhi, India, is also accredited to Sri Lanka.

Subasinghe noted that representatives of his country and Israel attended a ceremony at a synagogue in Washington Saturday night as a ?display of solidarity between the two embassies in light of the misinformation that was spread.?

An Israeli Consulate spokesman said Sri Lankan officials on Wednesday were expected to reiterate that their country had never turned down Israeli aid and offer their gratitude to Israel as well as Americans who have made donations to the relief effort.
