Designers > * * * Porno.com Logo * * *

Designers, this is the logo we've been using in the layout planning for the new Porno.com portal site. I'd love to see something ultra hot for the final logo. So go at it and lets see some killer artistry.

Some of you have already been contacted directly for submissions on the full site layout, so if anyone else wants to take a shot at that too besides the logo e-mail me and I'll send you details of what we need.

http://www.internetmanagementservice...ornologo1a.jpg

Top $$$$$ for the logo and site layout we end up going with and lots of design work on our other deals going forward in 2005!

Btw KRL, IMO, Rick is really letting sexo.com go to waste. It seems he is not even targeting spanish speaking surfers.

WiredGuy 12-17-2004 05:33 PM

I actually like that logo as is. You've already branded it rather well in your sig file so I kind of expect that logo when I go to the site at this point. There's nothing wrong with simple and brandable :)

KRL please see my sig. If you like the quality of my design work we can talk.

What about all the people who spend the time and you don't select? Will you compensate them as well?

These contests really take advantage of designers. What sucks is that there's always one willing to lower the bar and work for free.

that's exactly what i said when my friend recommended we solicit designs for xthreadz gear here. still though, if somebody is bored and krl picks their design- seems like a mutually beneficial deal...

Exactly, that makes sense. But what about the ones who see the value in working with KRL...put the time in...then don't get picked.

It's really not fair to hold these contests, have many people do the work and then pick one. The folks holding contests like these know full well that they're taking advantage.

crockett 12-17-2004 05:47 PM

I like the logo you have now.. kinda has the smutty neon light look that you would expect to see in a red light district..

maybe a flickering neon .gif with a neon babe next to it..

It sure is a pretty name, and as such it comes with great expectations. I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to be there.

I do, however, believe that domain names alone are close to worthless. Sure you get type-ins, but it's innovative services/products and real talent (of the operators, not a porn star!) that will bring the real $$$.

While I don't consider our domain name to be that good, I think that Adultie.com will become the most attractive adult destination for folks around the world soon after we launch :thumbsup

obviously.

why hire one designer for your work, when you can have several compete for your project and you pick the best one you like out of several diesngs / styles. Beats hiring one guy and making him do several designs until you find one you finally feel good about .

Im not gonna enter any contests here again unless the person holding it guarantees someone will be picked from the contest, and theres at least a runner up prize.

Believe it or not, OUR BANK ACCT MANAGER has used it in a little demo we did and said he'd be late to work every day once it's up and running. :glugglug No one has ever seen anything remotely close to what we did :)

I actually do to. I did that one myself by the way.

Simple usually works best.

Thanks WG!

Indeed. The current logo has a lot of "presence". Get someone to work on it a little, but I'd keep the main theme.

:1orglaugh Meaning they could be worth ALOT MORE if you actually use them in a right way. Sure you can always cash out nicely, but nothing is better than having a true cash cow.

This is a true dilema of the industry. Most of us have contracted out and paid so many times for design work and end up saying WTF so often when we get the results.

On the other hand I see your point also.

I always tell designers to use designs in their portfolio. There are several here who are proudly and deservedly flying Men.com designs in their portfolios. So there is some benefit even if you aren't selected.

I've also hired guys on projects paid for based on sample ideas in logo contests posted on GFY where they didn't win, but I thought they did killer work.

So you could post a logo here, I might not like it, but someone else will see it and say wow nice work and hire you for their project.

The bottom line it provides an opportunity to see a variety of artists work rapidly for the buyer and to showcase your skills as a designer.

At the end of the day, its the best way in my opinion.

eBay did not buy rent.com just for its pretty domain. It sure helped rent.com to gain its customers, but that alone is not enough. Behind them is a great management team and a superior service. A good domain name gets you the attention. A good service/product gets you the retention :thumbsup

Well in a way, you could compare it to being a real-life artist. If you submit artwork to a gallery competition or the like, if you don't win you don't gain anything (except maybe experience, criticisms, etc....)

Same here. You are doing the work for the chance to get chosen as the winner and receive compensation.

If you don't want to risk losing, just don't enter.

As for those who lower the bar and design for dirt prices, well....eventually people will realize you usually get what you pay for, and good designers will still be in business :2 cents:

Ok here we go agine Im not hateing by any means why even build on the domain if you ask me thats stupid leave it like it is let people pay for ad's on it. Why waste a good domain to make it in to something that you could do with a $5.00 domian? With domains like porno.com and men.com you dont build on those domains it just dont make sense you sell them to big company that think they know what the hell to do with them but in real life it dont relly fucking matter if it's porno.com or dbfjhbdsjbfjdsjfbhj.com same shit if you know what the hell you are doing and I can see you dont so have a nice failure and remember I told you so! :2 cents:
