Who have you learned the most from in this biz?

I was thinking back to the people who have taught me many things and I have came up with the person who has taught me the most.

Dugmor. I met him while stealing his content for an AVS back in 2000 when I was a newb. We started chatting and found we lived walking distance from each other. He taught me about lighting and editing and what cameras to use. Priceless advice that saved me 1000's in wasted time. I also learned from him how to market and how to make yourself a presesence. No ONE does that better than Dugmor. I am glad to call him my friend.

Wow......... thanks dude !

Yeah looking back I think it was funny how we met and how we become friends ! Someone sent me a link to your DefaceHerFace site and I was like ok........ some guy posted a video on a forum. Not that big a deal....... so I figured I would write the owner of the board and tell ask him to remove it cause it was upselling an AVS. The owner removed it and the next day added another one of my movies from a different series of video of mine. So I sent another e-mail. It turned out the owne was DukeSkywalker and was upselling his area from the AVS. I had to write the owner of the AVS and tell him to put his account on hold cause some of the movies where mine in his members area. I relized Duke was starting to shoot his own content and was just trying to make a buck and explained to him that he could make a lot more money by just upselling my site that had all the video he was using from the trailers. If I remember the scenes where from Blow Job Auditions and his surfer/members of his forum would love it !

After chatting with him some more on ICQ and thru e-mail I found out he lived the next town over from where I grew up and was planning on visiting my family the next week. We met up and went out to some some strip clubs. We started out at Satin Dolls ( known best as Bada Bing in the Sopranos ) but as we spoke some more we found out our true love was the skanky dive strip clubs in Paterson and Newark ! So we went down there and I guess I will let Duke finish the story ....

And finish I will! Dugmor and I drove down to newark and found a heroin addict walking the streets. She came up to our window and said "what are you guys up to tonight" we said nuttin. just chillin. She said, "you want a bj?" we said no. She says "how about you pee in my mouth. That kind of took us by surprise, but we were pretty liquored up and didnt want to touch her so we gave her some nice bling to pee on her. Man, she must have had a pee fetish because she gulped down litterally every drop. Anyway, we gave her some more money for some eats and that was that. Needless to say it was an adventure.

I am still a n00b at this (4 months). No one taught me anything - i learned everything myself. But i do look up to one person in this forum. Guess who it is :winkwink:

shermo 12-08-2004 06:02 AM

Many people have taught me things that are invaluable.

Dr Bizzaro: He brought me into the biz and taught me the inner workings of TGP and submissions. Thanks buddy!

Shemp: I remember talking to him in Vegas after having a few too many drinks. I probably made an ass of myself (no business cards, slurred speech, etc). The amazing thing is that he spent the time to give me priceless tips, a couple drinks and a greeting every time he saw me that week.

Duke: He's let me take part in expanding his affiliate program and making it the best it can be. I've never been able to take such a hands on approach before and I appreciate it. In just a few months, we've really gotten this program kicking ass and I hope to see it continue for a longgggg time...Or until he decides to hand the company over to me. :Graucho

Napolean 12-08-2004 06:02 AM

Tala 12-08-2004 09:26 AM

There have been a few who have taught me different things.

My first webmaster gathering was the CJ/NatNet/Lightspeed party in Atlanta. I knew no one, felt rather out of place, and was almost convinced that I was in way over my head. Then I started talking to someone, (I had no idea at the time to whom I was speaking), and found him so easy to talk with and so much a regular joe that I started spilling my guts about my fears and worries and the like. He may have been drunk at the time, but the advice he gave pushed me on my way. He said, "Why are you trying to do what everyone else is doing? What are YOU good at?"

That's the moment I decided not to try doing what everyone else was doing. I turned to writing and the rest is history. I thank him every day. It wasn't until after we had talked that someone called his name and I was dumbstruck. I had been speaking with Steve Lightspeed. :thumbsup

Again in Atlanta, this time for Webmaster Access, I was sitting at the bar when I was invited to a table of people I didn't know. I was introduced, and immediately invited to dinner. MMmmkay. Now mind you, I'm not used to things being bought for me, even dinner. But I had a BALL. During the course of that dinner I had opportunities to speak with several people, and I learned so much about myself and what I wanted to achieve during that one dinner that I'm still absorbing and using what I learned. I consider those people some of my closest friends in the biz, and continue to learn from them with every conversation. Those folks are:

Jack of AFF
Sagi of AFF
Lauren (mmmwah)
Sleazy

There's a reason I wear a SleazyDream tat. It's one I'll never regret getting. :glugglug

One thing I've learned about this business is that most people in it do have short memories.
