its been weeks since my last reboot, on xp.

i think most of my servers are at 190 days or so.

MissMiranda 11-22-2004 03:50 AM

ok well considering the last time my computer went off was when we were having an electrical storm , I would say mine has been on about a month

i think i should reboot, its just a hastle.

Candice 11-22-2004 03:53 AM

At the moment, only about 36 hours without a reboot. However, I always leave my machine on minus the reboots.......It's my friend, I have to hear that slight noise of the fans occasionally to know that the world is still out there, lol.

xoxo,

Candice

Shoehorn! 11-22-2004 03:55 AM

Since I came back to Hawaii in late August. So around 3 months. It's possible because I am on a Mac. :)

SuckOnThis 11-22-2004 06:37 AM

Havent powered off in over a year. Computers last longer if you leave them on.

Bullshit. If you knew anything about electronics you would know the sudden surge of electricity running through components by turning things on is more stressful on them than leaving them on.

DutchTeenCash 11-22-2004 07:09 AM

1 day :)

My computer is always on.. The only time it actually goes off is when I'm putting in new hardware. Of course, I reboot quite a bit due to program installations and all that. Othere then that my PC is constantly running.

xclusive 11-22-2004 07:13 AM

Depending on your Bios that might tell you how long you have been on and i've been on for 2 days my record was about 5 months...

dunefield 11-22-2004 07:15 AM

2 days so far...

Actually SuckOnThis is correct, the surge of electricity is harsher on electronic components than leaving it on all the time.

Wiggles 11-22-2004 07:16 AM

i don't leave it on anymore when i'm not around (wife gets annoyed), but when i did i think i did about 3 weeks at one point. I like to running 24/7, problem is my fans keep dying from overuse.

Slick 11-22-2004 07:21 AM

I only only leave mine on from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed.

to a point he is correct, but realisiticly the only thing that would be affected by powering off and on would be the harddrive. computers arent made as poorly as people may think and constantly powering off and on wont do much if anything to them. they may last 10 years instead of 12 but who keeps computers longer then 2-3 years anyways? my point was even in the most severe cases, the user wont keep that computer anywhere near the life span even after abusing it. i still have a poorly made compaq p166 that is still running strong after 9 years of constant off/on. i use it to play old dos games, and the only thing thats ever gone bad was the hd. i know people who arent rich who buy a new computer every 1 - 1 1/2 years because they are so cheap to replace.

macho 11-22-2004 07:27 AM
