Burning Man pics (long and serious)
I posted pics of the beautiful people last week. (http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=353566)
But Burning Man is MUCH deeper for me. http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/images/5sidestare.jpg +++ My grandpa is a 92 year old retired minister and although he has never gone, he and I talk about bunring man alot. He understands that it is my church. Two years ago, after my grandmother died, my grandpa gave me her old Bible to burn in the temple. Last year, when I performed the official ceremony for Kip and Renee?s wedding (At the Temple), Grandpa gave me his old ?marrying Bible.? It wasn?t a Christian service, but the object itself held the power of blessing 1000+ couples. This year, after turning 92, Grandpa Caleb gave me his old bible to burn at the temple. http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/im...1openpages.jpg It was worn and filled with notes. He used it for 30 years of sermons and took it around the world. Many people asked me, ?Why would he want that burned!?? I knew why. But his preparations for his next transition didn?t really hit me until the day the Temple burned. I spent hours there. I cried harder than I have in years. I spoke with the artist, David Best, and he picked out the perfect place to put Caleb?s bible. We left it open to the first page. The page that read, ?Please Return to?.? http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/images/8inalter.jpg If anyone doubts the power of art...If anyone misunderstands the ?rave? that is Burning Man? they should go straight to David Best?s temple next year. The structure itself is awe inspiring. A towering monument made of recycled wood trash. Then, as people fill it with heartfelt messages, it gathers an indescribable power. Thousands of people empty their hearts into this communal expression. The sound of wailing fills the place. It is so powerful, it simply must be experienced to understand. Then?after being completed less than a week?it burns. And all of our hearts? contributions ride the flames to heaven. http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/im...03whitline.jpg http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/im...31backside.jpg http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/images/6writing.jpg http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/images/9cry.jpg http://lustmonkey.com/2004/temple/images/9fire.jpg |

Thanks for posting those. Got a little choked reading your message. My sister took some pictures of our dad and some other "dad stuff" for the temple. He's just been told that his cancer is back after surgery last year. We're all really scared for him, but nobody talks about that sort of thing in our family.
I thought about all you guys out there on the night of the burn. Wished I could muster the cajones to be there. |
Hal - great pics! Burning Man seems like an interesting time. I don't know if it will ever be in the cards for me, but I'm sure it will be my loss if I never make it. Do you have more pics posted on your site(s)??

It means alot to me that I can basically share the most intimate part of my life with people here and have 99% of the people understand or at least respect it. Thank you.
The camera is a Canon G-5. Love it. The temple is different each year. The one in the pics is burned and gone forever. The overall theme of Burning Man is that everything is transitory. Many people have been shocked that I burned my grandpa's bible. But he, more than most, understands the transitory nature of life. Thanks for the thoughts. Truly. I still have a few more photos to post and an overview of the event that I'm hoping to post on Amelia and Forrest's BlueBlood.net. JM (or anyone) I love talking about Burning Man...looking forward to it. p.s. for the record, none of these guys are gay. :) http://www.lustmonkey.com/2004/mainpic.jpg |
cool pics, but i was expecting to see a man on fire
