Costa Rican Webmasters (New Info)
ADSL is now available from Racsa.
3MBPS/1MBPS is $300 per month. Available in most areas, including Tamarindo and surrounding beaches. I'm posting here because I can't remember all the people who have ICQ'd me asking about bandwidth in Costa Rica. |
$300 a month for broadband in Costa Rica?
|
not that bad
|
those are better prices then we get here in the states.

1) Slow 256/128 two way sattelite available ONLY to established businesses. $600 per month. 2) Various Cable options from Cable Tica and Amnet. Speeds ranging from 256 one way to 1mbit/500 two way. Costs ranging from $90 up to $1000 3) Dial up. Unlimmited price from internet company, but with a "per minute" exedente charge on the phone line. The introduction of ADSL marks a signifigantly more flexible, and cheaper option. A 1M/500k option is available for around $100 (I think) |
Know if it is available in Jaco?
|
Quote:
You need to be within 3KM of their central point in the city. Not sure if Jaco has one, or where it is. Give Racsa a call (I know this is a giant pain) .. They should be able to help you. |
Incidentally, this marks the first true broadband available on the beach.
I had to return to Vancouver to run my online business 1.5 years ago. I got sick of living in San Jose (Okay Escazu). Now that it appears you can get broadband and live on the beach... I'll be returning to Costa this winter. |

I'll drop you a note before I head back down. It would be nice to have a couple of acquaintances down there. |

Hit me up anytime. We'll be sure to hit up the beach party in Quepos. |

The beach party is Friday/Saturday nights right on the beach in Manuel Antonio. There's a little self serve type place on the far right of the beach (If you're facing the ocean). It's a typical no walls open aired place. After 10PM they pull the tables in, bring out a sound system and the place turns in to a disco. Because it's right on the beach, the party naturally spills out on to the beach. Incredibly fun experience. Mar y Sambra is in Quepos it's self, right? I recognize the name but can't place it. I'll be living in the Tamarindo area though, myself. I just like the atmosphere and the party in Quepos. |

If I recall correctly, Mar y Sambra is right on the beach just outside of Manuel Antonio as you're heading back up the hill towards the hotels (Si Como No). By the way, how do I get in touch with you? |

You don't get some of the nicest beaches in the world. You don't get the layed back Latino lifestyle. You do get cheaper internet You do get better overall infrastructure. It's a trade off. :) |
We own a small network in Costa Rica, so if anyone wants boxes there
we have them. Were tied to 10 megabits down there, small but good for sites that need to be down there for legal purposes like gambling and stuff.... Hit me up if interested: ICQ: 64791506 AIM: NJesterIII Email: chris at splitinfinity dot com |

Now is the time for Costa Rica
The realtively new President in Costa Rica has some new ideas for immigration and foreign ownership. Taxes will be higher, immigration will have stricter standards, and it will all around be more difficult. Don't wait. |
GIRLS are really nice there In Jaco hahahaha really open too :)
|
It has taken long enough to get that shit operational in Costa Rica - but now it is - there is lots more good shit in the pipleline!
:thumbsup BTW... Here are the current Amnet rates.... http://www.amnet.co.cr/corporativo/tarifas-racsa.htm |

The ADSL is faster and will be available in many more locations, including beaches. Cable is currently only available in San Jose and the immediate surrounding areas. |

It is not Pacheo who is causing immigration restrictions - this is common sense stuff. Costa Rica is a country which has been very tolerant re immigration and, as ususal, this is being abused. It also seems to be the case that a high percentage of crime is committed by folks who are here illegally. They just want to clean the place up and kill this rise in crime - which is exactly high in comparison with "civilised countries" - just not normal for here. Yea.. they need to introduce some taxes - it's a damned joke at the moment. In effect, there is little or no taxes. But any webmaster would not have a problem here with taxes even if they did introduce them (Tho they ain't gonna be much!! *s*). There are plenty legal ways to kill that. |

Guess I'll have to check into switching :thumbsup Amnet SUCKS. What do you in Costa Rica and where you based? We're planning a Webmaster/Affiliate party :winkwink: |

Depending on if the hotel works out, and when, I should be back in Costa soon. If the hotel doesn't work out, I'll be back anyway, but a few months later. |

With the Libera airport open again, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the country located within minutes of it ... Jaco will experience lower growth than the Guanacaste area. Stand on Playa Conchal, you'll think Jaco is a mud hole after. :) |
our best friend there is the guy who own ZUMA RENT A CAR on the JACO beach main street . \
im going there 1 month in december im sure we can make a big PARTY |
