List your favorite 80s Hair Bands!

Mine would probably be

Motley Crue
Cinderella
Ratt
Quiet Riot
Twisted Sister
Dio

I've seen all these bands live. Some of the best times of my life were back then. Geting high, doing some head banging, and then getting laid in the back seat of your car in your GF's driveway.

The Truth Hurts 08-09-2004 11:27 PM

Motley Crue

//end of list.

Either you really liked the Crue or you weren't a big fan of the hair band era. :)

SykkBoy 08-09-2004 11:32 PM

other than that little Bush/Manson difference of opinion we had the other day, we have a lot in common
love of big natural boobs, similar taste horror movies and an affinity for hair metal

amongst my favorites:
Motley Crue
Twisted Sister
WASP
Stryper (tacky Christian gimmick aside, they had some great songs)
Helix
Quiet Riot
Poison
Dokken
Rough Cutt
Autograph
Britny Fox
Skid Row
Cinderella
Ratt
Babylon AD
Vixen
Faster Pussycat (could never hate a band named after a Russ Meyer movie)
The Cult
Dangerous Toys
Guns N Roses
Def Leppard
Tesla

SykkBoy 08-09-2004 11:33 PM

fuck
I forgot:
Nitro
Dio
Pantera (before being "re-invented" with Phil Anselmo)

I love a lot of the bands on your list, especially Def Leoppard (who I'm listening to now: Photograph), The Cult, GNR, Dokken, Tesla.

I never much liked Poison, maybe because they were so popular and because the radio stations overplayed 'Talk Dirty to Me'. That was probably my most hated song of all time.

im wanting to get that Def Leopard Greatest Hits that just came out (or i think it did, Wally World has it on Display)

I guess that depends on what you consider Galm Metal. A lot of people would put Kiss and VH, both extremely good bands, in that category, even though both were established well before the early 80s. But those bands definitely influenced the hair bands.

contentjunky 08-09-2004 11:46 PM

Motley Crue
Guns N Roses
Whitesnake
Great White
Def Leppard
Kingdom Come
Triumph
Ratt
Poison
Bon Jovi
Tesla
Cinderella
Quiet Riot
Warrant

Some of these Im ashamed to say today but when they were out these bands kicked ass and were really fun to watch live.

:thumbsup

SykkBoy 08-09-2004 11:46 PM

glam was similar to hair metal, but actually began in the 70's with New York City Dolls, David Bowie, etc. and hair metal was kind of an extension of that...

Motley Crue remains one of my favorite bands today, hair, leather, pop metal whatever classification...they were just amazing..."Shout At The Devil" still sounds as good and fresh today as it did in the mid-80's (minor production flaws aside).

I see some more bands in there I neglected to mention, including Great White, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, and Warrant. Maybe the make-up was over the top, but these guys knew how to put on a great show. Going to the shows back then was fun, and that's what life should be about.

fuck yeah, there were some amazing fucking shows back then:
Dio, KISS, WASP, Ozzy, Crue, Poison, etc. spent million on great shows, lighting, effects, etc. now it's all just fucking shoegazers bitching about how much money they're making and they are still depressed...

You are right. Glam proceded Hair, but they were fairly similar.

RE: Motley Crue. How can you NOT like a band in which half of the members became pornstars in the 90s.

They always seemed to get the hottest chicks too, playmates usually. And those guys were UGLY AS FUCK. Tommy Lee's body is nothing but one big fat tatoo with a bunch of piercings sticking thru it. :1orglaugh

Back then MTV was actually worth watching. Today it's nothing but Eminem and hip hop.

I dont know a lot but the ratts are good though.

boobmaster 08-10-2004 12:02 AM

BTW, anyone ever heard of the band Santers? They never made it really Big. Rick Emitt of Triumph discovered them. They were a Canadian trio who produced some really good stuff. "Can't Shake You" was one of my favorite tunes of the 80s.

boobmaster 08-10-2004 12:04 AM

Another warm up band in the early-mid-80s which I liked -- Y&T. "Summertime Girls" Anyone remember them? I saw them warm up for Foghat back in 1983 in Detroit.

fr8 08-10-2004 12:16 AM

Motley Crue
Ozzy Osbourne
Scorpions

and a huge ass list more.

boobmaster 08-10-2004 12:53 AM

Where are all the glam/hair rockers tonight? :1orglaugh

BTW, can anyone identify this song and band? Some of the lyrics are

Gimmie an R, O, C, K, What ya got? Rock! What ya gonna do? Rock You!

Ruff Cutt?
I know the guitarist for Ruff Cutt went on to play guitar for the band Orgy....

a cheesy hair band cum thrash band I was in opened for Motley and YnT for a week (as a local opening act) was amazing, we made like $200 a night (big bucks for us) and got their leftover girls which were still pretty fucking hot...

we did an opposite Goo Goo Dolls, they started as a thrash band and we ended up as one ;-)

Cool! What instrument did you play?

I was in a few garage bands back then but none of them ever made it very far out of the garage. LOL. I was the singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar Jim Morrison type poet.

You probably know the kind of garage bands I'm talking about. They say they're gonna finance their equipment by selling weed but they end up smoking it all when they should have been practicing. :1orglaugh

Those were fun days.

SykkBoy 08-10-2004 01:06 AM

Another great "hair" band from the 80's who sort of disappeared (in the States anyways) was Disneyland After Dark, who got sued by Disney Corp and changed their name to D.A.D. (same thing, just with initials)

they had great songs called "Rim of Hell", "Sleepin' My Day Away" and "I'm In Love With A Siamese Twin"

Those were fun days.

I played bass and did vocals
it was funny because that particular band, Innocent Rage, did ok on the local circuit (fuck, we were from Wyoming and full time high school students). We started out as a metal coverband and I remember the last night we did the Motley tour, we did our cover of Shout At the Devil and Vince came out to finish the song with me...the funny thing about it..I didn't know a lot of the real lyrics, just how they "sounded" (the original "Shout At The Devil" album didn't come with lyrics) and I had been singing a few wrong words...

AFter that though we moved more of a WASP ripoffish band and got heavier, doing a lot of Slayer and Venom covers.

The bands I was in before that one, The Corpse Phuckers and Bloody Warpigs From Hell were straight up thrash/speed metal bands

I sort of did a little of everything

I even stood in with my dad's country band (he and a small group of friends who played local cowboy bars for beer money for shits and giggles on the weekends) playing bass and the bar owner wouldn't let me off stage because I was underage...

Van Halen and all the rest of the bands from the 80's & 90's

Veterans Day 08-10-2004 01:38 AM

Warrant Dokken Ratt and countless others is what I grew up on and were by far the best years of my life. The memories from those years just cant be described

TheMob 08-10-2004 01:38 AM

I'm so glad I didn't grow up in the 80's. The 90's weren't any better, but at least there's some good new bands now :)

Was there even a 90s? That had to be the most musically vacuous decade of the 20th century.

I completely agree. Although I'd go back to 1984, the year my beloved Tigers won the world series.

I remember in late July of that year a friend and I were at a club and I picked up this smoking hot chick (big natural tits). She was the best kiisser I ever expenienced.

We went out to eat after the bars closed. She wanted me to take her to a hotel. My friend wanted to go home. For whatever reason, I decided to drive my friend home and left her there. I ALWAYS regretted that decision. I never called her back.

Ah, .... memories!

you only had to have long hair and tell them you were ina band and most of them would believe it (whether you were or not) and the pussy was insane.....
