How many people have been fucked over in this industry?

I have been thinking lately, and talking to many on ICQ about some pretty big projects coming.

It got me curious to how many of you have actually been fucked over by someone you had a deal with?

I know some have claimed to have been ripped for many thousands, while others only a couple k, either way have you been ripped off by a piece of shit crook?

I was talking to someone on ICQ and it was along the lines of ...

"its almost not a question of who or how much money, its WHEN are you going to get fucked."

Sad, I have done so much business with so many people, I almost feel lucky I was only fucked over very minutely compared to some of the stories of people I do business with.

BRISK 07-21-2004 02:32 PM

I've never had a big fucking over, maybe $1k here and there, but I've always factored it into the cost of doing business in this industry.

Three times....all by people I put trust into.....I am way more cautious now and I don't readily invest in people like I use to. One was a major, the other two I only lost a few grand each....but also lost what I thought were "friends" too.

Methodcash Rick 07-21-2004 02:40 PM

Fucked you say???

How many of you remember the DMR fiasco of 1999???

Lost 200k/month in recurring, lucky I don't carry all my eggs in one basket...

WiredGuy 07-21-2004 02:41 PM

There's a lot of deals that go sour that are also not talked about publicly, particularly pre-paid deals between sponsors and affiliates. You very rarely see a sponsor claiming to be ripped off but it does happen.

again 100% true.

the sneakiest are the ones who pretend to be your friend too much.

Sucks so many are out so many k, i know it happens every industry, but youd think with a community like this or something a little less friend-scamming would take place, but nope, its here too.

Ice 07-21-2004 02:42 PM

I have been fucked over by 4 different companys for a total of about 30k

ztik 07-21-2004 02:42 PM

I have had some huge fuck overs. Losses of around $200k and $100k

TheLegacy 07-21-2004 02:44 PM

unfortunately I have as well - worst case are companies that want your lists of webmasters.

but thats the nature of the business.. few people can be trusted...

pornJester 07-21-2004 02:45 PM

There are alot of shady people on the internet in both mainstream and adult. Everyone who has been in this business a couple years has had some deals not turn out as promised and some have been flat out screwed over. You need to be careful how you do business over the internet.

PMGames 07-21-2004 02:46 PM

Oh...forgot....remember digiblaze processors a few years ago...forgot about that.....yup....didn't get over $15K they owed me either.

Another fuck me over was that company SexCo....had two fucking servers with them...one of them was a totally custom multiplayer server that costs me a TON of money to have custom built for me.....fuckers dissapeared over night on my ass...what as that...three years ago....if anyone knows where that Jayson fuck is...let me know.

KRL 07-21-2004 02:49 PM

I've got a long list of people that fucked me over or tried to fuck me or went bellyup owing me money.

The total is around $2 Mil accumulated from the 20 years I've been in this business.

AVM 07-21-2004 02:50 PM

I thought I was bad, apparently not. Sorry ztik.

Nevertheless, I lost $42,000 total last year (three seperate domain transactions) - Due to being overzealous and treating everyone as honest people. Nowadays when I purchase any five-figure domains, I have my whois.sc account. Make them sign contracts, and much more due dilligence/effort on my part.

Again, this is not adult industry. But somehow relates to webmastering. In case you're wondering how you can get fucked on a domain deal - Well they CAN be stolen. And by buying them from the theif, you have to automatically submit the domain back to the original registrant. Or else the registrar will do it themselves. :(

Mefo 07-21-2004 02:52 PM

I've been fucked over twice for a few thousand $ and a couple of times for some small amounts of money....

Pornopat 07-21-2004 02:53 PM

I see a lot of fucking going on.
I make sure that I can always get them by the balls.
I dont get mad. I get even.

AVM 07-21-2004 02:59 PM

FYI - This wasn't/isn't money I was OWED. This is actual out of pocket money, that I heard earned, from whatever - Could have bought a new car with, or what have you. In my hands, right there, money. Then to lose it, to some fucking lying overseas scumbags. Sucks

Fletch XXX 07-21-2004 03:00 PM

Yeah I can see how some of the bigger players around get taken for larger amounts, geez 100 and 200k... fuck all that.

As a designer, my favorite are the people who hit you up with deals for design.

I said this years ago, if I needed more friends id buy another cat and dog.

There are so very dishonest people posting here, and many of us speak from HARD EXPERIENCE.

please be careful.

if the GFY search worked I bet a little less camming would take place.

doing quick searches on people can wield some plentiful results at times.

Depends on if you want to include the consumers who have fallen for the crooked business practices of our industry. Yes, that includes the trial period which needs to be cancelled at least 24 hours before end of trial....the cross-sells that are even harder to cancel..and the penis pill pushers.

So, if you add these into the equation, then we should be asking the many program owners on this board how many customers they have served. Add their numbers together, and you will have how many "consumers" have been fucked over in this industry!

stevecore 07-21-2004 03:06 PM

Currently my work is on a refferal only basis, meaning if I do not know you or if you have not been reffered to me by a trusted associate, I must politely decline any offer you may have.

thats how i keep from getting fucked over. know your clients on a personal basis and do your homework on them.

Odie 07-21-2004 03:07 PM

Thankfully, I have not had anyone screw me over for $$ but what hurts the most is the loss of trust that comes along with the loss of $$ and relationships :(

well yeah, but i was mainly spoeaking about people you have a deal with, and then it turns sour, and you are left holding nada from it.

jayeff 07-21-2004 03:28 PM

The one which pissed me off most, although I didn't lose much money over it, was Adult Check last November. I still see red thinking about it, because some webmasters did a deal to screw other webmasters and make some extra bucks for themselves in the process. That was a first the industry definitely didn't need and it was also the first time someone screwed over hundreds, maybe thousands of webmasters without even going out of business.

Apart from my disgust at the webmasters who turned over others with whom they sometimes had business or even personal relationships, it showed this industry in its worst light. Two big links list owners were among those who collaborated with Adult Check, but because of the cult of personality thing we have going in online porn, people were queuing up to kiss their asses.

I lost a lot of money last year courtesy of the card processors who went belly up. Before that I had been pretty lucky: a live video provider back in '99 (?) and Xwhatever-their-name was. The immediate losses probably totaled around $35,000, but it's hard to say what the real loss was since recurring income was lost too.

imho, the owners of AC love fucking people over. i've heard on more than one occasion that tim and laith are fucking sneaky rotten bastards.

Roald 07-21-2004 03:40 PM

few times for maybe a k, what botters me most is not the money but the faith/trust you put into people/clients and when you turn your back they stab you down. I fucking hate those people.

s9ann0 07-21-2004 03:46 PM

oh hell yea it seems like 2004 is the year of getting fucked over for me I have been ripped off more times than I can remember!

L0stMind 07-21-2004 04:14 PM

2004 has been pretty good. only screwed over for $5k total so far...

2002 was my worst year though, two really big deals went sour, costing me over $100k in total. Shitty.

Peaches 07-21-2004 04:18 PM

(knocking wood) So far just one sponsor didn't send me $200 or so that they owed me. When I said something about it years later, they offered to send it, so in reality, I didn't really even get screwed over from them :)

The DMR fiasco....I was going through some old files a few months ago and found a card where they had sent me flowers for helping them with something back in 1996. Brought back a LOT of memories of how they cut bait a few years later :(

EZRhino 07-21-2004 05:20 PM

I feel very fortunate now after readingt these posts, my problems are minor compared some of the ones I've heard here. Hope I stay lucky.

Intrigue 07-21-2004 05:35 PM

I've been fucked over plenty of times, generally from clients who claim past programmers, etc... fucked them over, so they can't / won't pay in advance. Never for much cash, but the time is what cost me. Fuck that, anything now is 50% upfront unless i know 100% your good for it

MissMina 07-21-2004 06:14 PM

Yep I can say that I have been fucked by someone in the industry. In the BBW Niche. I rather not go into it. Fucker..:ak47:

Minte 07-21-2004 06:16 PM

In nearly 8 years i've been mildly fucked over by a sponsor, which i basically forgot about. And majorly fucked over by a single model, which i won't forget anytime soon.

Fletch XXX 07-21-2004 06:24 PM

whats scary is there are some backstabbing crooks posting on this board as we speak.

and they are plotting their next victim.

TurboTrucker 07-21-2004 06:59 PM

I got fucked not a lot of money but it's the principal.

sweetsally 07-21-2004 07:01 PM

2 sponsors didn't pay me...can't complain too much.

Turboface 07-21-2004 07:09 PM

One of the biggest predators in our industry is David Stodghill. I have taken measures to insure that his online crime spree will not continue unchecked.

Another person that is on my shitlist is Herb Kornfield. He stole $1200 from me. When I am finished with David, I will be turning my attention to him.

DreamCumTrue took me for a hundred bucks or so, which I'm not worried about, but certainly will not forget.

Hey I would actually like to push some of those ex-perfection girls that have their own sites now.

Are they all on Solar Cash? Someone should make a list of these girls if they are out there with their own sites, for ex perfection girls affiliates.

I won't push them through Porn Kings as its obvious the girls are not doing any more content for those sites.
