Bush is finally doing something worthwhile? Nah, even gay marriages isn't a big enough thing to let the dickhead wipe his arse on the American constitution (something that all nations should aspire to PRACTICE, not just have) any more than he already he has.

Bush wants it, the senate doesn't want to touch it until after elections. They aren't going to get the number needed to bring it to the floor. It's dead till after 2004.

This is a political move that GW has been making on and off for about a year or so now. His advisor that told him to do this should be fired. There is already a federal law that says that the federal government does not recognise same sex marriages as legal marriages. This law was signed by Clinton. So there is no reason to amend the constitution to add a law that already exists except for a poor political manouvre that will get him the votes of the lower intellegant southern bigots that are the only people that seem to vote nowadays.

It's not that they are the only ones who vote, it's that the votes of people who live in poor places in the South are worth a lot more than the votes of people who live in productive places like New York and California because of the electoral college.

With left wing federal judges there is no such thing as state rights. There are at least two that I am aware of that say having sex with 12 year olds should be legal. You may think it is a good idea for judges to make law but i'll bet you change your mind one of these days.
