Court ready to rule on Net porn
Feel the fucking love
http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5248357.html "If it's upheld, there will be a shock wave," said Ann Beeson If COPA is upheld as constitutional, the effect on adult Web sites would vary, depending on the wording of the court's opinion. One possibility is that all commercial Web sites would be prohibited from putting up "teaser" images: COPA says Webmasters who employ measures such as credit card verification or require an "adult access code" can't be prosecuted, as these would typically keep out minors. |
Teaser images, the end of TGPs and free porn as we know it??
|
Canadian webmasters would now have the upper hand.. :)

So, then all the TGPs move to Non US servers
and problem is solved. |
More like the end of free AMERICAN porn online.
Instead of being a godsend that shoots conversion ratios through the roof - all affiliate business will move out of the country. :feels-hot |
I would take that if it meant keeping them off our backs.

The courts have struck this down time and again for the past 5 years, so hopefully they will stick to that stance.
VOTE KERRY. |

If we were forced to put shiny stars over all offensive stuff conversions would skyrocket - but offshore competition would kill us.

I hear surprisingly little talk about this from webmasters.
If COPA is upheld: It is the end of U.S. free sites. It is the end of U.S. TGPs WTF are people who've built hundreds of free sites going to do? My prediction is it won't be upheld. The last Supreme Court decision is so complex (mutiple different opinions) that it makes your head spin, but my overall impression was the votes are probably there to strike COPA down. Vote KERRY so Bush can't appoint more conservatives to the Supreme Court. The rumor was Sandra Day O'Connor wanted to retire. But if she holds out until 2005 then Kerry could nominate her replacement. |
from a sponsor standpoint, I'm thrilled
from a submitter, webmaster point, I'm a little worried but overall, this could lead to better conversions... |

For the record... 123BILL is the only system out there that can provide true age verification. This service can be purchased on a per transaction basis, seperate from those who wish to use 123BILL for billing and age verification together. Want to learn more? Give me a shout!
Cheers! :winkwink: Brad |
I sell cheap dedicated servers located in a datacenter directly connected to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange. :winkwink:

Totally agree about offshore - tho there is a real messy scenario on this for US webmasters - ie the US govt has ya by the bollocks from birth to grave and wants to know *everything* and file tax returns wherever you are in the world. Kinda defeats the purpose of "offshore" :-) Tho there are ways :winkwink: |

I've been COPA comliant for a v long time now...so I'm not too worried...
however, if they rule in favor of COPA it will be a sad day for the 1st Amendment my bet is that they WILL rule in favor of COPA this time, my rationale is that with all the recent Visa pullouts and other large companies pulling out of the lucrative adult online biz processing (paypal, card services, etc) ...that this is just the writing on the wall that those companies got some word from high up that it was going to be upheld this time...and to get out now before they get slammed with RICO (conspiracy) type charges....I'm sure they opted for the safe route and hit the road... //goes to buy wagersoncopa.com |
Nothing really to much to worry about...
Off shore hosting is pretty solid.. It's easy to get domains under a management company in another country.. |
