should I buy a gun?
Honestly I think guns are pointless peices of shit, meant for killing people. But lately I'm starting to realize my security needs to be increased, because there's a lot of weirdo's calling, and the occasional weirdo gets through my phone screening process. Seems like once a week something somewhat scary happens, and I feel like my security could have been compromised.
Anyway, some people have suggested I buy a gun. Should I? If I go out and plunk down a couple hundred on a 9mm, what am I going to do with it... wear it on my hip? I honestly think I just want a higher profile display of power and authority, so it can curb anyone's thought they can overtake me for cash or whatever. I'm kind of afraid of getting robbed at this point. |
Not unless you will use it.
|
Heh, it'll be a lot more than a couple hundred.
|
no, especially if you have kids in the house

If you're kind of anti-gun to begin with, perhaps a vicious dog would be more up your alley.
If you can own a gun responsibly, learn how to use it properly and such - they're not a bad "plan B" if things get out of hand. Nothing says security like a shotgun though.. |
no

Are you aloud to wear it on your hip in a holster?
Can it just not be showing (except in texas)? or are you not allowed to bring one out in public? Im thinking about getting one too, but I need to be able to carry it on my person; If I get a shoulder strap holster, will it be legal? I'd have a coat over it of course, or could I get a hip holster and put my shirt over it in public - or could i let it show? |

a gun that only costs a couple hundred is likely to blow up in your hand
|
ok, what if i dont conceal it? I dont care if it shows or if it doesnt..
Can I wear it as long as it isnt concealed? |
i would look at the source of the problem and try to fix that first.
Where is all this heat coming from? maybe you shouldn't atttract all these morons and invite them into your home in the first place :warning something to think about |

it is NOT hard to get a carry permit at all. You take a cakewalk class, take a lame test, fire some rounds, do some paperwork, get fingerprinted, get your picture taken, done. It's frighteningly easy. |
I wouldn't buy a gun, loads of people get killed with their own guns or get shot because they point a gun at someone and he's faster...you may feel safer with one, but a dog is much better, if someone comes to your house and sees or hears a dog, he'll prolly just leave and not even try to touch ya.
In addition, a dog is fun and you have to go out of the house several times a day...better than any fitness club ! |
Whats the age requirement?

the question is who are you pissing off

go to packing.org That has the state laws and procederes for getting a conceal carry permitt.
I got mine last June when the new law passed here in minnesota. It was cool to carry for about a month. It's bulky. you hit doorways. Gets annoying. Pretty much i just keep it in my car now. I would go with a .40 Handgun. 9mm is a pretty weak round. you can get something decent for around 400-700. |
oh forget it. you're in california. Its a may issue state. meaning you must show a need, and prove it. Completely up to your police department
They can deny it for any reason. |
Yes, you need a gun for protection. As long as that is what it is for, too many people get a gun and get into situations they normally would not. False sense of security, don't get a 9mm though. For personal protection a .40cal is the way to go. I recommend Glock or SpringfieldXD. You should be able to get one for around $600.

He has not SAID he wants to do this, however, he has voted for EVERY act of gun restriction that has ever gone by his blank face. |

it is illegal to carry a gun in all states, without a permit, permits are extremely hard to obtain in most states, but some states like missouri, its just a test. |

Where you live has nothing to do with it. if you are going to have a firearm for protection you want to make sure it works
|
Get a can of Mace or a dog.

2 words, Desert Eagle
|
The Desert Eagle is to big ....and not very accurate Too much gun to carry for personal protection
|
Go with a shotgun... The sound of a shotgun being cocked will scare an intruder more than the actual gun.
Mossberg has some really nice models in both 12 and 20 guage and they can be had for around 250-300 new and less at the shows.. Guns...It's the Merican way :thumbsup http://www.pptb.net/images/flag.jpg |

It is illegal to CONCEAL in most states. It is perfectly legal in most places to carry a gun. You will get stopped every 50 feet, but you won't get arrested unless you brandish it. |
You would be surprised how many states have liberal conceal carry permits. If you have no felonies or domestic violence charges
