Whats With The Lame Ending in LOTR 3?
Got the last copy on the shelf yesterday! DVD
Too many "try to make you cry" moments. Why does Froto have to leave? Where is the boat going? What does "the sea calls us home" mean by the Elf guy? the ending didnt make sense to me. care to explain? so they save middle earth and get on a boat to go somewhere else? :1orglaugh |
Frodo is leaving because he's dying, at least that's what I remember.
|
They're going to the "Undying Lands". Remember Elves are immortal. They saved "Frodo" and "Bilbo" spots on the ship as a reward.
Don't know if they were ever granted immortality but Gimli was... |

i dont get this shit. why didnt he just jump in the Volcano then? i never grasped he was dying... just that he and the others had to leave. Gandalf, the elf, the woods lady, even Biblo, is there some "live forever" place the elfs taking them? i dont get it. |
Frodo is leaving cause he is dying. The stab wound that he got in the first movie is killing him. The elves, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo are leaving Middle earth. There are different opinions on where they are going. Heaven, etc... I heard from someone that Gandalf is truly an Angel or something like that.
Someone correct me if I am way off base here. |
Oh yeah and all the time Frodo and Bilbo spent with the ring fucked them up. What you don't see in the movie but was in the book was that Frodo has several spells where he gets really really sick from that stab wound the Ringwraith gave him.

just watch all the movies or read the books? :glugglug |
i definitely thought it dragged on
|
watched the dvd last night
I agree too much sappy BS at the end kind of left it open for another movie ( if they wanted too I suppose) :eyecrazy |
Frodo got sars...he's going to the land of Benadryl and Sprite.

we all know Peter jackson wants to do The Hobbit which would tell Bilbos tales, which is where the story really is right? Telling lord Of The Rings and not The Hobbit is like Star Wars with no 1,2,3 Also, Sam is given the book and told "the last pages are for you" there are indeed hints to more stories... |
I watched it last night too. It was all so sappy and homoerotic. There were several times where I thought Frodo and Sam or those other two hobbits were going to give each other deep tongue kisses.

That's why we saw him complain that his wound still bothers him and it will never heal. But the ring also affected him and the fact that he almost betrayed everyone with it. The only peaceful place left for him is with the elves, the emotionnal and physical pain will be gone. |

I heard of the same thing over and over

As far as Sam's tales. He didn't do shit. At the end of the book Return of the King it has a timeline in one of the Appendix sections that you can read if you want to do a quick summary of not only what happened before these movies but also after. |

Maybe you weren't confused at all :Graucho |

I like 2 the best myself ;) 3 wraps up a lot of the story, but had a lot in it... seems they could have added more to part 1, but what we have to remember is, this is nt just a DVD trying to tell a story. They are trying to focus on the best marketing also. I wasnt pleased to find out the one I bought is the Fullscren version vs widescreen, why cant they put out the WS first? all other 2 are widescreen this one is Full, i wont repurchase either hehehe |
WTF? How can you say that 15 mins out of almost 10 hours was long and boring?
Actually, the ending was rushed. In the book it's much more detailed. Anyway, I thought it was an excellent ending. Character development isn't only based on swords and blood. Emotion is also part of it. |
I have read the hobbit and think it would make an excellent movie, done in the same way as lotr

I liked the ending, I just didnt understand it, which is why I made the thread, glad you folks grasped it all. I have to stick to horror movies, I can only understand slaher flicks. Anytime I leave my genre I get all confused like this, *throw on HO1KC* ;) :1orglaugh |
the book lasts much longer - there is a whole battle back at the shire against sauruman and wormtongue...

they didnt even show him in this one! At the end of the other one he is in his castle overlooking the Ents and the water battle scene, then disappears from storyline? hehehe they didnt even show my favorite charahcter in this one!!! |
Quote:
Yeah, the ending is very confusing if you didn't read the book. Nothing to be ashamed of bro. :glugglug |
i own frodofaggins.com
and frodoisgay.com nothing is on them i just bought them becasue of that movie |

But the way Peter Jackson explained it, the climax of the story is the ring being destroyed, and he didn't think the audience would be in for another 30-45 minutes of the Shire Battle. Still, he should have shot it and included it in an extended version of the story. |
who's wormtongue?
Wait for the Special Edition DVD box to appear in stores, it has over 2 hours more movie |

Great movie for sure, the end sure did drag on for a while.
Only part of the movie I really didn't like was the ghosts part. I thought that was kind of hokey. But then again the whole movie isn't really all that realistic. It's just a fun movie to watch :thumbsup DH |

They could NOT have won without that massive sweep of the dead. Its not just hokey ghosts, the symbolism of the Dead fighting along side the living to earn honor and to save middle earth tells the same story of redemption in age old books. |
read the book. jeez.
