Well, Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911" has won Cannes Film Festival's top honor. Second time in history a documentary has won since Jaque Cousteau's documentary long ago.

Guess Disney is gonna eat crow cause now this film is gonna make a billion at the box office.

The people who vote and go to the Cannes Film Festival are from everywhere, with all kinds of backgrounds, and a lot of them are celebrities who are in-tune with the world, I'm not saying all celebrities are in-tune ... but yeah. It's really nothing to do with Europeans at all, it happens to be there, and that is the only connection I believe there is. If I'm wrong, I'd like to know.

Come on, most Hollywood types are pretty far left. Even if Americans were some voters, they werent exactly non-partisan.

i doubt if that movie will create some spark when shown to US.

I'm sure it won because it is exposing the truth about the Bush family's connections, and of course Moore has a controversial way of portraying things, even though he does make things look worse than they might be so they look to his documentary's advantage.

I am interested in seeing most of the canidates that were up for it this year. Thought it was interesting that they put Shrek2 on the list. Trying to be a kinder, more cuddly Cannes?

I heard a lot of good things about the che guevara film and I very much want to see Bad Education.

This one will suprass it simply because of the magnitude of the subject at hand, and becuase no one knew what to expect from his first movie... they know what to expect from this one.

It'll make more money.

It's good to confirm that the film festival is not politically biased in any way and really is just there to celebrate good film making.

not to mention much wider initial distribution. I had to wait nearly a year for Bowling For Columbine to come to a central London cinema. I am sure most parts of the country never got it at all. Now it will open in most cities.

no. i could care less what films are up for the award of the "best of the best" or whatever it is .

if a "documentary" can cause such a reaction... then i think given his past, his political views, his political bias and content of previous movies might lead a reasonably intelligent person to deduce that the purpose of the film was not to "document" anything but rather to send a politically charged message.

celebrating films should not be about celebrating political views and political opinions.

hate to tell you but every film has a message - even a doccumentry. I haven't seen this yet so I reserve judgement on it. Don't see how people can have opinions of a film they haven't seen.

that's the main problem with mainstream movies..they don't have a message or deeper thought about it (only $$$) Troy had some..at least it was based on an epic story..most movies are crap and don't require you to use your brain :2 cents:

Fun to watch the right-wing knuckleheads squirm and cry whenever Moore or some other author, government official, filmmaker displays so elegantly what an idiot Bush and whoever believes in him is being.
