Senior Republican lawmaker says America may restart the military draft for Iraq war
A senior Republican lawmaker said that deteriorating security in Iraq may force the United States to reintroduce the military draft.
"There's not an American ... that doesn't understand what we are engaged in today and what the prospects are for the future," Senator Chuck Hagel told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on post-occupation Iraq. "Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said, arguing that restoring compulsory military service would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face." http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...1521&ncid=1480 Good news for all the right wing GFY posters. Soon you or your kids may be forced to go risk your life in Iraq for Bush. |
Hell half of GFY would be gone
|
Hell a lot of them are probably in the age range that makes them eligible for the draft.
|
It's about time, people vote for neo cons, they shouldn't be allowed to sit back and watch shock and awe on TV. You want never ending war and tax cuts at the same time, well guess what, time to buy your kid a kevlar vest.
|
Shit there have been hints about this for a while, I guess they are floating a trial Balloon !:2 cents:

I'd like to see suggestions on how else it could be curbed, without giving terrorists, or enemy states everything they ask for? |

I thought it was the global war on terrorism, and those who sponsor, harbor or give material aid to terrorists? wasn't aware there were other qualifiers. |
http://www.sss.gov/
This is the website that handles the draft, they have a full pdf that says in spring of 2005 to make EVERYONE (male, female, illegals, sick or not, etc) to register for the draft. 18 1/2 to 26. They are talking about raising this to 32, even as high as 36 if needed. Single child, college, nothing will keep you out. If you only have one leg you can work pushing paper for the GOV. side note ** seriously fucking GFY and the fucking hahahaha's.. can't w r i t e, w r i t e-up, d o c u m e nt.. had to change it to pdf.. Fucking stupid, upgrade the damn board so you don't have these stupid expoits. |

The Iraq war was not part of the war on terror - it has slowed down America's fight against terror by diverting resources. |

Do you realize Bush stole 700 million dollars from the REAL war in Afghanistan, to start work on his FAKE war in Iraq? Putting the troops safety at risk and leaving Bin Laden loose for 3 years to advance an insane neo con agenda is not making you or anyone safe. Read Bob Woodward's book. We need a guy who's going to fight terrorists instead of using our fear and sympathy to manipulate us into agreeing to send troops to the wrong fucking country. Jesus I don't understand how people don't get this by now. |
half of GFY would be gone...
We'll hold down the fort for you! ;-)P Current draft ages are 18-26 (premium range) FULL draft age range is 16-60 - doubt it will ever be used again Running off to another country? You still go, they'll pick you up and send you back. Eventually. Or sooner or later you'll come back to spend some cell time, one way or another. Females are included in the current draft plans. Single children would have to be allowed exemption IF they are the last of their bloodline. I'm sure they'll reword it to allow repub children to handle all the paperwork and partying. :glugglug Odd thing... Muhammed Ali (then Cassius Clay) was to spend time for draft evasion... his arguement was war was against his religion... Islam. |
As long as student deferrments are the like are gone I have no problems with it.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0419-06.htm I know I've personally fielded around a half dozen serious queries (as in "I'm ready to go, how do I get there?") about how to enter the country legally... it's not as easy as it used to be in the 70s. |
Just another reason for me to move to Mexico or some place in the Carribean.

Have you forgotten already that it's two democrats that are leading the charge (it's their bill) to reinstate the draft? Rangel & Hollings |
i doubt id get drafted since im an only son, still in college, and i have a daughter... but if i did get drafter.. i heard the american dollar goes a loooong away in poor ass mexico :thumbsup
|
What you mean you all dont think the war in iraq is just and wouldent support your brave leader who made the decision to remove the terrorist dictator from power and restore balance to the middle east?
:helpme |
An only son, in college, and with a kid DOES NOT MATTER with the new draft.. Read sss.gov and see for yourself.
Even handicap people can't dodge this one. Just because you can't go into battle for those reasons does not mean you can't serve in the Military. |
They should have never done away with the draft. We wouldn't so many screwed up young people now if we still had it.
just look at the people on this board, most don't know there ass from a hole in the ground. If the rest of the country is any thing like the young people here we are in trouble. |
Time for me to move ;)

"Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces" right on the front page. |
if they start up the draft again it won't be just because of Iraq, they have other plans, which I'm pretty sure they do.
|
hey draft means you can have your way with the village ladies..so dont knock it quiet yet!

one man's terrorist is another man's Freedom Fighter. Sometimes, as with the afghani's and Al Quaeda they're the very same people. When AQ was fighting the Soviets they were our freedom fighters and we funded them and gave them weapons. Now they're terrorists because we don't like them anymore, same shit we did in Central America, same shit we've done a dozen times in the past. I'm not giving up any members of my family so your dumbass president can get re-elected. |

Hagel did what's known as a floater. What happens next depends on how the press and public react to his statement. If it's a positive reaction the Repubs will back it, if not they'll pretend they never thought about for a second. How's it feel to be a sheep? |

Rangel put out a bill that ensures that the loopholes commonly used by rich people to get their kids out of the draft are closed. He did this because if the Repubs can't keep their kiddies out of it they won't reinstate the draft. He's publically stated he's against the draft both before and after submitting this bill. It's his way of fighting it. Rangel's explained this a hundred times, it's no secret. Why are you the only one who doesn't know this? |
jimmyf... alot of the kids out there are JUST like this bunch of clowns, sad to say. I'm out and around them a good bit when I'm not breaking bones. lol
I just sigh when I have to deal with them. They think a c average should get them into management. lmfao |

If he's going to go ahead and tell people to read that site, and someone actually does, I'm not allowed to call him on it? Or... am I only allowed read and quote the select information that fits your argument? And to tackle your juvenile insult... if I'm the sheep, hows it feel to be sheep shit? |

You remind me of Rush Limbaugh, spouting off like the Oracle of Wisdom when it only takes 5 minutes of Google research to realize you're totally fucking incorrect 99% of the time and clumsily trying to mislead somebody the other 1%. Like with the Rangel-Hollings bill. Of course, if you only read Newsmax and watch Fox you probably believe any kind of shit they want to shovel, like most conservatives. |

The loopholes getting "fixed" are to allow women. If he so against it... what the fuck does this mean: "To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes. " or this: "(a) OBLIGATION FOR YOUNG PERSONS- It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this Act unless exempted under the provisions of this Act." after all.. he DID put his name on this. |
here numbfuck, educate yourself a little. This was hard to find, I admit. It's on CNN and took at least 15 seconds.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/01/27/rangel.draft/ an excerpt for you: The decorated Korean War veteran said he introduced the bill "in hopes that those people who make the decisions to go to war, to attack Iraq, would be better influenced against it if they had kids that would be placed in harm's way, or if they felt closer to the shared sacrifice that we oftentimes talk about." People "from the lower economic levels of our society" should not be the only ones placed in harm's way, he said. why are republicans so FUCKING STUPID?? |
