money = happiness

as wonderful as large amounts of cash might be, it's only one of many components that add up to happiness.

those who feel the simple equation money=happiness, haven't got a clue in my opinion, and likely have never been there. what do you think?

riosluts 03-08-2004 12:54 AM

yeah but pretty soon u will get bored of having everything and you wont be happy anymore. like the saying "money isnt everything".

shermo 03-08-2004 12:55 AM

Money can buy things to make you happy, but if you don't have a person to share them with that you actually love or care for, you've got nothing but a shitload of useless things that make you feel like somebody.

I'd rather be a nobody with loved ones than a somebody with stacks of wasted paper.

psyko514 03-08-2004 12:56 AM

there's a track by a canadian rapper and the chorus is "money can't buy me happiness. but i'm happy, so i can buy what i want, anytime that i want"

good track.

StickyGreen 03-08-2004 12:56 AM

your right...money does not equal happiness...but it sure makes things in life much easier...

The problem is most people don't have the luxury to get to the point where they dont HAVE to worry about money.

For me, money isnt about being able to buy everything, its about having peace of mind and being able to enjoy what I like without having to worry about how much i'll make, whether I can afford it, etc.

Good post, Quiet.

Other components to happiness would be (for me at least)

Creating something new

Overcoming obstacles

A sense of wonder

DarkJedi 03-08-2004 12:57 AM

money /= happiness

TheJimmy 03-08-2004 12:58 AM

you are right, happiness is more than MERE money....however, with the financial issues handled in life it makes it a lot easier to address the higher issues...

I will always recommend to get the money shit out of the way so you can work on the more fun and important shit in life...

:thumbsup

Money doesn't buy happiness but it can buy a good damn imitation.

Damn straight... it's very difficult to be happy when you're stressed and struggling to pay rent and bills.

Money is what I think the people needs now.
But it's not happiness, not yet.

i've been rich and poor, i find happyness is more a function of the social structure around you than your financial staus. One of the happiest times of my life was when I was poorest - in university. Worked while in school - left with huge debt too, but I loved it cause I had soo much fun and great friends, mind you right now is just as good or better with all the people I've met and hang with in his biz.

don't mind him. he believes he's making a quality post which in turn makes him believe his sig is worth $500 a month.

Ironhorse 03-08-2004 01:04 AM

I've seen both sides of the coin and the equation is nowhere as simple as that, money does not equal happinness but sure as hell makes things easier :2 cents:

i know where you're coming from, and i want to agree with you. but if i'm completely honest, the BEST days of my life were my University years. this included struggling to pay the bills, living on a shoe string, etc. no money for anything. the best years of my life.

2nd best time of my life was directly before uni, living in staff accommodations at a ski resort. fuck all for money.

but of course, money is a wonderful thing...

bhutocracy 03-08-2004 01:04 AM

I saw a study done that said the price of happiness was 350k a year. While it opens you up to new hassles and lifestyle increases to fit your wage it does typically erase the traditional "we don't have enough money" (as in to eat not have an in house chef/nanny) - "look at all our bills" (as in power not porsche payments) hassles and they are the happiest strata of people.

it certainly doesn't equal happiness but it does remove a source of unhappiness or at the very least relationship tension.

very true. i remember being 18 years old, working 25-35 hours a week at mcdonalds, going to class during the day and partying hard on weekends with my girlfriend and friends. it was a great time! of course, i skipped all my classes and dropped out, but still, it was a great time!

I agree the best times of my life were when I had barely enough for cup of coffee to share with my wife in our early days.

Blondie23 03-08-2004 01:06 AM

Money alone wont make you happy, but a lack of money can definitely make you unhappy.

i'd dare to bet most people in here GET IT, it just takes an iq over about 80 to be able to comprehend it. Think about it - it MAY come to you after a bit - when you finally GET it, you be amazed at it. It's a life philosophy and a VERY good one at that.

the quote is about 2000 years old too.

are they the best years of your life in retrospect or did you feel the same at the time?

because when i was doing 35 hours of class and 35 hours of mcdonalds, i thought it sucked. but in retrospect, i had a great time.

Yes it's a philosophy, but it has no relevance to this thread.

i knew i was enjoing myself at college.

I know I'm enjoying myself now.

there was a few years there in the financial biz that I didn't enjoy, but I don't regret them for a second.

Money does not equal happiness. Often its just the opposite.

SleazyDream 03-08-2004 01:16 AM

I have more money than I will ever spend in my lifetime...not that I couldn't...I just will not spend it. My needs are simple and I am not into the material. I would give every penny that I have and be HAPPY to work at minimum wage if I had could only have my good health back.

In my opinion money is low on the list for being a component that equates to happiness.
