"Gigi" and "The Last Emperor" have.

TaylorM 02-29-2004 10:27 PM

LOTR tied with Ben-Hur and Titanic for the most awards. That's saying a lot comparing it to Ben-Hur.

:thumbsup LOTR!!!

Stomped 02-29-2004 10:29 PM

Titanic didnt won also 11 oscars?

LadyD 02-29-2004 10:30 PM

wow, isnt this the first time an action/fantasy movie has won best picture?

Bansheelinks 02-29-2004 10:30 PM

Titanic never went 11/11, nor did Ben Hur

Yeah, at the end they mentioned it tied for the most awards won with Titanic too. I was surprised.

hottoddy 02-29-2004 10:31 PM

:thumbsup But tonight's coronation was really for the whole series. Up till now, the others only received costume/technical/special effects type Oscars.

Bansheelinks 02-29-2004 10:33 PM

11/11 never been done before.........

I've said it b4, and I've seen thousands upon thousands of movies, ROTK is the best movie I have even seen.

Congrats to Peter Jackson........you have now become a legend of film and no one deserves it more!

SWEEP BABY!!!

And Hottoddy, it IS the best trilogy of all time as well, leaving all others in the dust...........can't wait for the Extended DVD Special Collection Issue of them all..........up on the mantlepiece those will go.

I haven't even seen any of the LOTR movies.. i feel out of the loop.

chodadog 02-29-2004 11:05 PM

I liked the LOTR trilogy. But i think they had quite the gall to change things from the book. Why was the shire never burned? Why did so many people that died in the book survive in the movie?

The whole point about great victory only coming with great sacrifice is kind of lost when nobody fucking dies.

slackologist 02-29-2004 11:07 PM

well deserved..

Trafficbrokercom 02-29-2004 11:18 PM

I prefer Meet the Feebles ..

I thought the same thing until I watch the dvd when peter jackson and about 20 other people go into great depth as to why they did things the way they did...why some people never died, why some characters in the book (tom bombadil) never made it into film, why some characters (faramir for example) acted completely different in the film then they did in the book, and why some speeches were delivered by completely different characters (something like wormtongue gave speech in the film that was originally given by gandalf in the book) etc, etc..

Made sense when they explained it, then again they are the ones :1orglaugh all the way to the $$ bank

That wouldn't have changed one bit had they stuck to the story exactly as Tolkien wrote it.

I still enjoyed the trilogy, though.

loverboy 03-01-2004 01:41 AM

grand slams for the Hobits :thumbsup

X-Wing 03-01-2004 01:49 AM

Peter Jackson desrves it all the way. :thumbsup

Bansheelinks 03-01-2004 01:56 AM

Its nice to see the Academy get with it for once. Its a shame it had to take a behometh film like ROTK to finally break thru for the fantasy genre. But what a record setting breakthrough! The other two that won 11 didn't have a clean sweep. This is unprecedented.

Now, about that Extended version DVD, Peter?

:thumbsup

Apparently in May we can look forward to an extended version in the theatres.

More oliphaunts, fellbeasts, orcs, and hobbits; yeah, I think I can handle that :D

KraZ 03-01-2004 02:43 AM

A well-deserved win for ROTK :)

As was stated before (not by me), the sweep was really for the entire series, not for just ROTK. Well deserved for the series IMO.

I've never bought a DVD in my life, but I sure as hell will be buying the extended version of all 3 movies when the collection hits the shelves.

I just hope they edit the 4 endings of ROTK into one merged ending like it should have been done in the first place
:winkwink:

hoe_vender 03-01-2004 03:52 AM

:thumbsup

josipk 03-01-2004 03:54 AM

good for them. I'm yet to see the first movie.

djhits 03-01-2004 04:34 AM

all of the LOTR's movies are great, the third is best by far.

i woulda guessed they would get 8 or something but 11

:thumbsup

rjstar 03-01-2004 06:13 AM

Good film, deserves to win them all.

Living For Today 03-01-2004 06:15 AM

Extended versions of part 1 and part 2 are already out. Each set has 4 dvd's each, lots of cool extras. Impossible to watch back to back, would take over 12 hours lol.

Ross 03-01-2004 09:43 AM

Yep they pretty much destroyed everything !!

insanesurfer 03-01-2004 09:48 AM

Well you sure have something to look forward to then, my friend. It is amazing how much work went into this, and how interesting this created world is. Its the best trilogy ever, nothing else is even close (The Godfather series comes closest but the 3rd one was putrid so that one got dragged down).

And Return of the King is simply a masterpiece........if you let yourself go and lose yourself in it, it sure doesn't seem like 3.5 hrs; not too often a series can sweep you away and capture the imagination.

:thumbsup
