I got a HUGE scare today.

I've been sick with a soar throat, cough, runny nose, constant sneezing, neck aches and swollen glands. I tried to make it into work today and couldn't take it so I deided to head home.

I'm driving down the Turnpike and all of a sudden it's like I went into tunnel vision and I felt like I was about to pass out, so I pulled off to the side so I didn't crash. I became really confused and then my face/lips went numb and my facial muscles contracted basically giving me "puker face"... right after that, my hands went dumb and an intense tingling feeling shot up my arms and I felt like I couldn't breath. This went on for about 10 minutes.... I was SO close to calling 911. I popped an ativan hoping it would relax my muscles.... 15 minutes later I was fine.

I thought I was having a damn stroke or something. Anyone ever been through anything like that?:helpme

myjah 02-23-2004 04:55 PM

no. you should see a doctor ASAP before this happens again

On-top 02-23-2004 04:57 PM

Whoa...no I haven't. But it sounds pretty intense. It sounds like something you should definitely get looked into.

I had the same thing 2 weeks ago when i was sick. I almost passed out. I felt it coming so I let myself drop on the couch. 2 secs later and i wouldve been on the floor. After that i threw up like crazy.

vas 02-23-2004 04:58 PM

i had something similar but it was after an intense work out at the gym... maybe its stress related? oh and it also went away after 5-10 mins.. dunno if it was the same thing though

Rorschach 02-23-2004 04:59 PM

That's not normal... go see a doctor asap.

BradM 02-23-2004 04:59 PM

Go see a doctor.

I have been fucked up all weekend too. I might have to cave. I am stubborn but I might have to go see a doc

tootie 02-23-2004 04:59 PM

OMG, if that happened to me I'd head straight to E.R.! Go, scoot, now!

NetRodent 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

I had something very similar to me happen once when I laughed very hard. I couldn't stop laughing even to breathe. I got tunnel vision, I mostly lost the use of my limbs (luckily I was seated) and I almost blacked out. It only lasted a couple of minutes but it was rather scary.

xenigo 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

Sounds kinda like a stroke or an aneurysm. I'd definitely schedule a doctors appt for that!

Doctor Dre 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

Nop but I'd be fealing damn good after that ... ;)

You think you will die then 5 mins later you realise youre allright and everything . Must feal good to be living .

Remembers that my GF almost felt in a Volcano one day :) The rock slipped under her feets, hopefully some1 cought her up because she would be dead right now !

WiredGuy 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

Wow, never heard of that happening before but you should definitely see a doctor asap about it. If it happened once and you leave it undiagnosed, you can bet it would likely happen again.

Hope you feel better Jenn!

Doc911 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

Joshua 02-23-2004 05:00 PM

Now that you have more then just me telling you you should go see a doctor, are you going to do it?

I think you're right..... I just wish my doctor wasn't such a tool. It was so intense that I got out of my car in plane sight just incase something happened someone would have seen me and called for help. I'm still freaked out. :helpme

iwantchixx 02-23-2004 05:01 PM

relax girl it's just a panic attack :) You'll be ok. These can be triggered when you are feeling sick and stressed at the same time. It's your body's way of saying "Alright, ENOUGH! Time for some rest and relaxation"

I used to have them damn things every day for a year when I was 19 and had to take ativans to calm them. If you need any help dealing with it ICQ is in sig.

axelcat 02-23-2004 05:02 PM

Hope you get well soon

Yup, that certainly has something to do with it. I have that shit all the time but on a lower level.

I think it was a thread on GFY. Unfortunately it happened about a year ago so I don't recall which one.

mrthumbs 02-23-2004 05:06 PM

your body is exhausted and the tunnel vision thing is a result of that: the symptoms you got after that can be best described
as "panic attack". (the numb body parts).

ahh too fast..

yes exactly.

KRL 02-23-2004 05:08 PM

I would disregard the GFY medical opinions and see a doctor at once.

That could be anything from a mini-stroke to a panic attack. It is not something to take lightly.

ASAP.

Honeyslut 02-23-2004 05:08 PM

A good doctor will give you an inhaler with a very bad cold.

I'm going to call him in the morning. I've had panic attacks before, but nothing on this level. The muscles in my face were so tight that my lips were stuck in the "pucker position" and when I tried to talk, you couldn't understand me. The lips stayed like that even after I was feeling well enough to drive. Oh yeah and my fingers sort of stuck in this "claw" position for a few minutes...... I've only had soup and water for the last three days from the flu/cold I have and I have been under a great deal of stress......... I hope it ends up being something simple.

I agree. If it's nothing and you see a doc, you're out a couple of hours and $100 or so. If it IS something serious and you DON'T go, then you could lose your life. Please go see someone right away, hon.

exactly.. she should see a doctor no matter what.. why take the risk?

But i can guarantee her its not a mini stroke but a panic attack that was causing the numb feeling in her face. She just gave
a textbook description of the symptoms: from her face to her arms. A stroke (even a mini stroke) would target specific areas
for a longer period. Dont scare her.. ;) She should see a doctor
but all she needs is some rest and problably some specific vitamins!!

Holly 02-23-2004 05:14 PM

You need to go to the doctor, Jenn. Remember what we were talking about the other night, about the kids who were zombies on the meds? Because you've got other health stuff going on, you should go get checked. Go to a neurologist. It's probably nothing, but you need to tell a doctor about it.

iwantchixx 02-23-2004 05:20 PM

agreed. See a doc regardless. It's just a panick attack, but what triggered it and made it more severe than a normal attack is what the concern is.

Holly 02-23-2004 05:22 PM

Shit, I forgot what I was originally gonna say. :1orglaugh

My best friend since kindergarten does the same thing when she's really nervous or anxious. Her hands draw up like claws, she gets lightheaded, and she goes temporarily blind. If you don't sit her down, she'll pass out. Sometimes her face will draw up, too. It used to happen a lot when we were getting ready to get in front of a big audience (dance recital, cheer competition, softball game, etc). I can't remember if it ever happened when she was sick, though.

Either way, you still should go to the doc. ;-)

Mutt 02-23-2004 05:24 PM

agree. it sounds like a really bad panic attack. a panic attack can create any sympton you can imagine.

but of course always check with a doctor just in case.

panic attacks can be triggered when your body is under stress from another illness.

pushpills 02-23-2004 05:24 PM

Make a doctors appt.

Write will.
