GonePhishing 02-21-2004 04:33 PM

Any news on this being reported anywhere else?

KRL 02-21-2004 04:34 PM

Anyone dependent on donkeys for transportation will inevitably be captured. Its only a matter of time. The US has the most technologically advanced spy and surveillance resources in the world.

He'll be caught but not delivered to the media until right before the elections.

Fletch XXX 02-21-2004 04:36 PM

nahh, they all look the same ;)

You don't understand the volume of intel data the NSA has to analyze now. The quantity is beyond their capacity for interpretation by human eyes. So its not that the intel wasn't there, it just never got analyzed in time.

This is the downside to having immense intel capabilities. Its the same thing with the IRS. They are still having enormous system upgrade problems from their old IBM 1960's mainframes to a modern network. Computer Associates has a multibillion contract and just hasn't been able to make the new system work because the information they have to program and sync is overwhelming.

Los 02-21-2004 04:52 PM

you would think that a group of 50 people wouldnt be to hard to find.

edit -he's also an CIA asset since when russia trying to invade afgan,so i'm sure they kept tabs on him,but somehow he had time to plan this..okey dokey

I was watching some History channel program where the NSA has a system that intercepts and records phone conversations. Data can be searched for like a search engine.

They also have the worlds biggest computer. It is used to break codes. They keep it in a air tight dust free enviroment.

Krille 02-21-2004 04:57 PM

it's all true, i read it on gfy

hova 02-21-2004 05:00 PM

If it is true, that would be fucking great for mr Bush. But I doubt it :(

I call bullshit. If you want to suggest that the NSA knows everything there is to know about America citizens - I'm in agreement. If you further want to suggest they are overwhelmed, to a certain extent, by the data - I agree. American intelligence outside its own borders is an oxymoron. You don't need to look further than Iraq for proof of that statement.

I'll say again the only thing the NSA or any American intelligence agency is good at is spying on Americans.

Oh, and the IRS is illegally collecting taxes. :winkwink:

toddler 02-21-2004 05:34 PM

I love seeing this kind of crap. half of you don't even normalize your own dbs, let alone have ANY idea what the NSA does.

KRL is correct however, the sheer volume of data makes things hard to tie together.

Even at that its still a manual process. Someone has to actually LOOK at the data. Hence...analysts...

Myst 02-21-2004 05:39 PM

The NSA in conjunction with several other large intelligence agencies is intercepting virtually everything and I do mean everything.

The key word being intercepting. That doesn't mean they are seeing it all physically. But everything is going into the Crays now. Well over 3 Billion communication intercepts daily. About 90% of all Internet packets are being "sniffed" also.

yes, however about 90% of packets being sniffed STILL means someone has to look at it. Outside of some _very_ fancy LISP code, there's not a lot out there for massive correlation of data to the magnitude that is needed.

They're using articial intelligence programs.

Even with the current state of fuzzy logic algorithms, to the best of my knowledge
the type of correlation engine that would be needed just isn't possible yet. YET.

I do some sideline moonlighting for a defense contractor doing network wargames simulations. I'll talk to the project lead over there and see if he can shed any light on what you say, but, again from my experience, not possible today. At least to the degree that would be needed..

cosis 02-21-2004 06:11 PM
