I have 30 domains there. $8 a year = $240. $15 a year elsewhere = $450. For $210 a year I'll risk having to sling them $80 if someone spams using my domain. My domains aren't as sensitive to being down a few days as yours are though.

This makes no sense. How can a registar know if you were spamming or not? Just having a bunch of emails with "juicylinks.com" in the from field is absolutely meaningless, since this can be so easily spoofed. Were you hosting with them?

ive been saying it for 2 years now. godaddy fucking sucks.
they sold a few of my domains to some domain broker who tried to sell them back to me for thousands of dollars.

Unreal.
Pay it by c/c, transfer the domain, and charge the $80 back. Isn't what they are doing extortion?

My important domains are outta there ASAP. Damn! :(

Enom all the way :thumbsup

I was using RegisterFly before, but after they fucked up big time when I was going to move some domains it was bye bye for them.

Donny 02-18-2004 10:15 PM

DirectNic

I have 50 domains with them. I love them.

WiredGuy 02-18-2004 10:34 PM

My general train of thought on registrars is to spread yourself out over at least 3 registrars. One username/password becomes compromised and you can lose every site you own within that registrar. Makes sense to spread them out a little bit at the very least.

Nismo 02-18-2004 10:35 PM

yea, i hate when they queef you

BradShaw 02-18-2004 10:45 PM

DirectNic

Mike AI 02-18-2004 10:46 PM

Juicy, those things don't happen at DirectNIC. We understand how business should be done.

but if you have domains with 3 registrars... you just increased your chances by 3 of someone getting your username/pass for one of them .... :2 cents:

MadCap 02-18-2004 11:00 PM

just moved all go daddy names.

twistyneck 02-19-2004 12:25 AM

I'll be moving to directnic this week. I've never had a problem with GoDaddy but this is one war story too many.

beemk 02-19-2004 12:27 AM

were you polite with them on the phone like you were with jupiter host?

mardigras 02-19-2004 01:15 AM

Ya gets what ya pay for. But even though Directnic is a bit more than some registars you get hosting included if you wish, the banner is only for their hosting service so it is not competing for your adult dollar. You can only post images on the free service but it is fast and reliable.

Their bannerfree hosting is a bit steep for galleries, $15 for 2 gigs (or 1 year, whichever comes first) but that's good to host a front page and link stuff hosted elsewhere. I use that for a couple of low graphic portal pages and host content of any size on my main hosting account.

They don't have a POP account but you can set it up to forward [email protected] and set your regular mail client to send as that:)

SomeCreep 02-19-2004 01:22 AM

Its fucking ridiculous how godaddy trys to police its customers for spam, especially the drastic measures they take after only 1 or 2 complaints. It should be the job of the webhost to stop its clients from spamming.

I wish directnic would lower its prices to compete with godaddy.

Not entire accurate, policing is a public service, if that were the case a few more registrars would have similar policies or at least some how reproach customers for abuse in this matter. In my opinion the reason they are doing this is simply to free domains and have users shell out the $80 to unfreeze them. Think about it, with the under $10 they charge per domain name thats 8 years you have to be with them before they see $80 of revenue, which isn't even profit, or they can freeze your domain and get $80 from you, $79 of which is profit, not have to care about your ass for eight years and even if you transfer off. How many domains are even eight years old vs 1, 2, 3 or 4 years, certainly a very very tiny portion.

Its all in the $$$.

SubSonic 02-19-2004 06:59 AM

I am quite happy with http://www.mydomain.com :thumbsup

Jace 02-19-2004 07:03 AM

www.web.com $5.95 a domain

johnbosh 02-19-2004 07:03 AM

wow that sucks I use them for all my domains (only 5) damn:( what is the best registar to move too?

NBDesign 02-19-2004 07:06 AM

Shit... people steal nbdesign's headers all the time to spam... I have not been shut down.

That's fucked up and probably illegal. You can send emails with anyone's return address on it; they should at the very least check the smtp server and see where it was sent from. So all anyone has to do to shut down competitors is spam with their address? lame.

NBDesign 02-19-2004 07:19 AM

Just tell them it was can spam... that is totally legal. Infact, got my 1st spam the other day with the "Can Spam" Shit at the bottom and the american flag.

So great... we have legal fucking spam now.

:BangBang: SPAMMERS!!! :321GFY

KRL 02-19-2004 07:23 AM

Problem here is most of you guys don't read TOS's. These registrars, ISPs, hosting companies, all have the power to turn you off for spamming.

And when someone uses one of your domains for spamming you need to immediately contact everyone connected to that domain from your hosting company, to your registrar, to your ISP, that someone is illegally using your domain for spamming.
