i need music..just one of those nights

crap all on tv to watch..I need music. I'm kind of in a punk mood, kind of in an old ska (two tone) mood..maybe could stretch to some eyeliner and black hairdye music (cure, depeche mode type stuff) tonight.

Someone suggest something :)

Libertine 01-21-2004 03:45 PM

Did you say punk? :glugglug

Everytime I listen to the Smiths my husband makes a fuss..he hates them. So, they are limited to headphone listening though I may get them out.

Ever heard the Tatu version of How Soon Is Now? I personally wanted to harm them afterwards.

Libertine 01-21-2004 03:52 PM

What kind of punk are you in the mood for? I probably have some to recommend :)

Btw, got any good 80s stuff to recommend? Listening to Patti Smith, Iggy & the Stooges, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie & the Banshees and the Smiths right now, and I need more :glugglug

I've seen them both live at music fests but a bit light sounding for me tonight.

punk - nothing later than the early 80's unless you think it is really good.

Now, same question to you..what kind of 80's stuff are you looking to hear? With the line up you have there alredy I would ask where your Depeche Mode and Cure were hiding or even the Cult.

Ah, the Cult..okay first song up for me tonight is going to be She Sells Sanctuary.

ldinternet 01-21-2004 03:58 PM

surely you like frankie goes to hollywood?!!

it may not be punk, but... :glugglug

_Danielle_ 01-21-2004 04:00 PM

Dead Milkmen
Suicidal Tendancies
Black Flag
(Old) Blondie
Dead Kennedy's

I like Frankie but most of their stuff is so seriously over played here (two tribes on a burger king comercial) that I need to have some space between listenings.

Stuff like Youth of Today, Black Flag, Minor Threat, the Misfits, Dead Kennedys, etc? Or more like the Sex Pistols, the Clash or even the Ramones? Or - if you are in the mood for entertaining crap - the "some old bullshit" stuff from the Beastie Boys :glugglug

Depeche Mode and the Cure are hiding on my harddrive right now, after having been overplayed for several days. Looking for basically anything I don't know yet now... which is pretty hard to find.

chronic avenger 01-21-2004 04:13 PM

dancehall?
madlion album you can grab??

Killahpride Mixtape Vol #1
Featuring MAD LION, EDley Shine, Shine Head, Nikey Fungus, KRS-ONE to name a few

full album

Sarah_Jayne 01-21-2004 04:18 PM

The Clash - you read my mind. I am searching for London's Calling on my harddrive at the moment. (hubby and I fight about the Clash too so that is another hidden group)

As John Lydon is doing our celeb surviour over here starting from monday I also pulled out Public Image Ltd's 'This is not a love song' - it isn't a fantastic song but it will do because I have played the Pistols a bunch lately.

I know they aren't exactly on the line of what you are playing but are you a Pixies type of person or too much the other way ?

Libertine 01-21-2004 04:21 PM

As I read your post, Nimrod's Son started playing in my winamp. So yes, I like the Pixies :glugglug

Cool, I just started playing Where is my mind and I am going to play the recent PLacebo Cover of it because #1 I was there when they played it for the first time live and #2 it is actually pretty good.

Sarah_Jayne 01-21-2004 04:30 PM

oh and a new song I that I actually like that I was just reminded of

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

It had chunky gutair and a bit of Roxy Music sound to it.

myjah 01-21-2004 04:38 PM

thats funny cause i'm in a TV mood tonight. gotta catch the OC

Body Count is fairly good, but far from great imho :2 cents:

Sarah_Jayne 01-21-2004 05:04 PM

Stumbled onto Frank Zappa - Dirty Love on my harddrive whilst on the way to something else. We will call it a musical pit stop on tonight's musical journey :)

Libertine 01-21-2004 05:33 PM

Just found The Epoxies... modern synthpop, pretty funny :thumbsup

jollyperv 01-21-2004 05:38 PM

cluck 01-21-2004 06:01 PM

Anything by Toots Hibbert and the Maytals. For more good ska go for hepcat, skatalites, ny ska jass ensemble, pilfers, and of course, the toasters.

Also go for 4skins, adicts, angelic upstarts, cock sparrer, blitz, special duties, the oppressed, oxymorons, partisans.

jollyperv 01-21-2004 06:03 PM

Ok here's a pointed sticks song. Later 70's punk/power pop from Canada. Just discovered them last month.

pointed sticks-06-marching song.mp3

Here's a few Kids Songs...77 Belgium Punk Rock, They were like 16 or 17 year old kids when they recorded this stuff. This shit is amazing, but the mp3s were recorded off vinyl, so they're a little quiet.

TheKids--Thatsalright.mp3

TheKids--Facistcops.mp3

And for good measure, one of my favorite bands of late, the Raydios...it's not late 70's, it's actually late 90's, but you'd never know. Japanese punk/power-pop doesn't get much better than this.

The Raydios-SoNervous.mp3

Hope you like em.

The Jam - Going Underground is one fine punk song. Paul Weller is a mystery to me - I will have to check out his stuff some day - he really has made some amazing songs along the way.

I played Going Underground tonight after I played London's Calling ..for some reason they go well together for me. The Jam had tingle factor for sure. Style Council wasn't all bad either.

I think I will pull Town Called Malice tonight too.

jollyperv 01-21-2004 06:27 PM

My favorite Jam song is News of The World, I can listen to it over and over and over.

first one wouldn't download but the the two from Belgians were good - got to love Belgium. After all the second best version of Jet Boy, Jet Girl was done by a Belgian.

I like the Japanese one best though - even if I only just understood anything they said :)
