Why doesnt every ethnic group have a day dedicated to one of the people they feel worthy?

Why doesnt every ethnic group have a month dedicated towards learning their history?

Why is there no Asian History Month? No Mexican history month?

This is very racist IMHO, We need to put a stop to singling out black men for a day, and singling out the black community for a month!

Its a way to say we are sorry for what are fore fathers did.

The jews went through just as much (if not more) than blacks and there is no month dedicated towards them. There isnt a single jewish holiday where all govt offices are shut down.

the "month" thingy seems kind of dumb to me - if you want to learn about cultural heritage you should learn about it whenever you want, not during the course of one particular month of the year :2 cents: yea ... sort of racist (in the affirmative action kind of way) that their arent these "months" for other minorities, or crackers like me for that matter.

I for one fully support MLK Day (im a white dude). This guy was a bad mofo - i dont want to think of what kind of world it would be without him having lived. Its sad enough to see it in pictures and hear about it from my grandmother.

I agree with the essence of your statement that the minority holidays are not equally dispersed - but this is not just some holiday for blacks. This was a dude that changed America for the better, and will be in history books 1000 years from now. I consider it a holiday for myself too, and im celebrating it :thumbsup

Cultural awareness month is a positive thing.

Black history month should be categorized with Cultural awareness month. That is a month designed to learn more about your heritage and appreciate it.

As far as MLK day... He was a great man with big hopes that overcame large obstacles. What he did was important and he deserves a day to be recognized.

Do you think Veterans day should disappear as well? He fought just as much as they did for freedom.

ok a list history class here. First martin luther was a great man who repersented all walks of live. His over all goal was for every man,women and clild of every race to live together in harmony. It is just a stero type that because he was a afro american man this holiday day is for the "black man. Sorry you are wrong it is for evey women,man and child. what he did and said was for all of us. You should be celebrateing This holiday day that a man back in those times were things were no were equal had the courage to step foward and take oath to teach peace, love, and loyaltiy for all.

Don?t get me wrong as I?m not saying MLK is bad, but what about every person who did something special for which they should maybe have their own holiday, and don?t?

Making the exception for someone because of his race or what they did for them would still be considered racism. After all isn?t any decision based on race racism? (regardless of the outcome)

On a similar note, why do Black, Asian, Mexican (etc etc) studies always promote/teach positive history, culture, etc of the respective ethnic group, yet White studes (an official College course) teach negative junk about White people?

if you want the truth you gotta go out and find it yourself, school courses are rarely non-biased or accurate unless you have a good passionate teacher. For christ sake you want to complain about a national holiday, how about Columbus day? That guy was a fucking scumbag. When it comes to our ancestors, they may have done things which _THEY_ should be ashamed of, not me. Should I be ashamed because of my Jewish religion or maybe that my dad is from Portugal and my mom from morocco? I'm proud of who and what I am.

In short, Yes I am Jewish and no I don?t hold any German responsible for any of the crimes committed during world war 2 (unless they did have involvement in it), just as the black shouldn?t hold any one person responsible for enslaving their ancestors. It's only repeating the cycle. Hell, i even own a German car and helped to support their economy a little.

Point is, where is my Jewish History Month, Why doesn?t the government shutdown to celebrate my holidays?

I guess the point is, this is a national holiday for a person ... if there was a similar dude who did something to liberate jews in america, i suppose there would merit a holiday commemorating that person. MLK is not a religious holiday, i dont think of it as an african american holiday, i think its an american holiday celebrating an amazing dude... if americans took a day off for every religions holidays we'd never be work, and then we'd be french :1orglaugh

What about the brave Americans who liberated the whole of America from the British? MLK (from what I know) is the only person who has a national holiday in his name. One would think that someone such as George Washington is a hell of a lot more deserving.
