Disney World for adults???
Wife wants to go to Disney World. Idea does not excite me, but I will survive. Which resort would be good to stay at? Would like a 6 star resort, close to the park, or inside the park? Less kids the better.
Is there really much for Adults to do there? |
The Boardwalk isn't the best hotel, but it has the most bars within walking distance.
|
Stay at the Boardwalk or any of the big 3 in Universal Studios.

Hotels at Universal look nice, but how far are they from Disney World?
|
Take your wife wherever she wants to go man. She's clearly the best thing you have going for you.
Boardwalk if you are looking to have a good time near the park. Quote:

Stay around Lake Buena Vista. There's golf and I forget the name of the Island that's over by the shopping that caters more to the adult nightlife.
My favorite places are the Polynesian Village & Fort Wilderness. Definitely rent those lil speed boats, they are so much fun. But if you're really looking to stay away from kids, think of somewhere else to go on vacation. Kids are everywhere at DW. |
I like to stay at the Beach Club resort inside Disney, it's got a great pool and you can walk into the back entrance of Epcot.
Epcot has some good food at the different countries. |

I went a few months ago and went to Discovery Cove for a day. Swam w/ dolphins, snorkled w/ big fish. They have sting ray pools, a heated "river". Pretty good deal. Universal Studios kinda sucks. Islands of Adventures is cool. Some lady died on the Hulk when I was there. Sea World was better than I thought. Epcot was ok. The new Mission Space is kinda fucked up. Test Track is there also. Don't do Magic Kingdom. That's for kiddies. |

Also, Universal has City Walk (adult "night life") and there's Downtown Disney which has Pleasure Island. :2 cents:
There's Cirque du Soleil (La Nuba- which is awesome), House of Blues and Planet Hollywood there (Downtown Disney) too. |

They have City Walk and Downtown Disney in Florida too? |
Stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is the nicest resort on the entire property (I have stayed in 90% of them). It is themed like an African lodge and has animals in the Savannah at the back of the hotel. If you have the money, ask about the concierge level. They have food available at all times for you and a special early morning safari at the Animal Kingdom at the Kilamanjaro Safari Ride. It is by far the most beautiful and extravagent resort on site.
The restaurants there are also wonderful. Boma is an african style buffet and Jiko is a nice African style sit down restaurant. I also heard of a great restaurant in the Polynesian resort named ohana that is supposed to be great. I am a pretty big Disney buff. I go there all the time and my brother is currently employed there. There is plenty to do for adults at Disney. At Epcot, you can go to the world showcase and drink at each of the countries, sampling different alcohols. That is my favorite park of the four, although Animal Kingdom is good too. Off site there is a beautiful hotel named the Gaylord Palms. It is supposed to be beautiful inside although I haven't stayed or been in there. http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordpalms/splash.cfm |
The Grand Floridian is the best property in Disney.
Staying along boardwalk is cool because of reaturants and "nightlife". It is also connected to back entrance of Epcot. If you are heading that way, you should spend a few nights in Tampa - I know some decent accomadations there and we can ride roller coasters at Busch Gardens! ( Oh and Katie knows where all the outlet malls are as well!) |
I see they just opened up a ritz in Orlando. Just need to decide if I want to stay at Disney or not.
And I agree, my wife is the best thing going for me. Thus I put on a smile, my scooby doo undies, and go and have fun. |
@ Disney the Grand Floridian is about one of the best hotels on Disney Property. It's also one of the closest hotels to Magic Kingdom and has the monorail. So you can just hop on the monorail and goto any of the other parks, except Animal Kingdom as they do not have the monorail to that one. But you can take a bus or drive to there. They have some clubs at Downtown and a Cirque du Soleil show.

Last time i was there i stayed for two weeks at the Wilderness Lodge. You'll probably either want to stay at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (which has Victoria and Albert's, named Central Florida's only AAA five-diamond restaurant) or get a Savanna View Suite at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I wrote guidebooks for the Children's Wish Foundation for children with disabilities and have almost everything ever written on the parks. So if you would like more ideas or suggestions just let me know. |
went to disney in Paris this summer, was fun, i puked on the teacups
|
Also talk to Vick for some ideas - he goes there a couple of times a year. :)

but i did like EuroDisney (well that's what it was called when i visited) have they made many changes to the park in the last 5 years? |
Brad, maybe you should pick up a copy of Birnbaum's Walt Disney World Without Kids
it will offer you a great overview of the parks, give you some ideas on things you may want to plan in advance and is always a good guide to have on hand when visiting |
I think I found the solution. Fly in Tampa, stay with MikeAI, let them go to disney while I drive his cars around all day.
|
We rode everything in 3 hours and got bored. took the metro back to town instead of waiting on the shuttle. Euro kids are rude, they walk in front of you and do stupid things so we also started a game of home many euro kids we could kick to the ground

Disney is great IMO... but don't stay too long or you'll get bored
|
plus euro kids fucking smell, i mean come on, take a fucking bath

There's lots to do in Disney as an adult .. I have annual passes to Disney and IOA. Stay at the Grand Floridian or the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had a savanah room there and it was just amazing to see those giraffes right outside your balcony They even had night vision scopes to check out the animals after dark. Stay away from Fantasy Land in Magic Kingdom, but there are some favorites like Pirates, and the 3 Mountains you might like to see there .. Dont miss the fireworks at Epcot! And the best place to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks is in Frontier Land .. Man .. now I wanna take a trip to Disney :1orglaugh

On Disney Property i think the Grand Floridian takes the cake. What a beautiful hotel. Stayed there a couple times.
This year i stayed at the Royal Pacific on Universal Studio property, definitely worth looking into and get this: If you have the hotel key, you get to skip the long lines at the rides ALL THE TIME. Fuckin awesome this christmas there was a 120 minutes line for the hulk roller coaster and my GF and I rode it 3 times in 40 minutes LOL Definitely worth it |
Maybe tonight I'll post a picture from the Thunder Mountain Railroad accident from Disneyland California.
