Dutchies - which bank

Ok, after 3 years my current bank, Rabobank, wont accept my checks anymore. Dont ask me why, they cant explain it so ofcourse i cant either. Im highly pissed off tho.

I need a new bank...today...one that understands the fact that checks are my income.

Which one?

Roald 12-29-2003 02:01 AM

ABN AMRO, my lil bro had the same problem with the Rabo a few years ago. He had to cancel his account cause they didn't want to cash his checques anymore.

Libertine 12-29-2003 02:02 AM

The Rabobank won't accept your checks? :eek7
I'm using the Friesland Bank, but they pretty much suck. They charge 15 euros per check. Was thinking about switching to either the Rabobank or the Postbank myself, but apparently that choice has been narrowed down a bit...

They cancelled my last 2.5k.
Fuckers...

And this guy who always phones me is this fucking punk, my age, in his fucking suit giving me shit all the time.

My current bank gets confused about checks as well... they haven't even once used the same procedure in taking checks so far.
Sometimes I get a handwritten receipt, sometimes a printed one, sometimes a signed form, sometimes they just sign the specifications...
And, sometimes they send a confirmation letter, sometimes they don't, sometimes they call, sometimes the confirmation letter arrives after two months (a month after I've gotten the money), sometimes after a week... they're fucking crazy over there.

I've had this with the ABN as well, seems like duthc banks aren't too known with foreign cheques.

Man, thats is crazy!

The Rabo lately always put the money in my account within 2 days before they clear the checks because they know i never had problems in 3 years...till today...no more soup for me.

Anybody any experiences with check in combination with the ING?

Think that's crazy? What about mistaking the conversion ratio for 1:1.61 instead of 1:1.16? Or misspelling my name and refusing to change it?

I could go on for hours about that bank... like the time I moved and they had some real trouble updating my address (took 3 months).
Imagine going to your bank, saying your address has changed and you've already told them 4 times in the last 2 months and they REALLY need to change it, after which the girl at the counter types a bit on her computer, then says "Ok, it's been updated", and when you ask "Has it really been updated?" replies "Well... no. But it shouldn't take more than a few weeks".

The only reason I'm still with them is laziness and the sheer entertainment value :glugglug

Nice!

I have fucked up stories as well.
When i moved to Amsterdam i had a small Rabo office in the north of the city...to them everything was fine...they upped my credit after a while to 10.000 guilders. Then i moved to the center, new office, new rules. Within 1 week my cc was gone. Why? Because they said i didnt have any income...the 1000's from the checks was funny money to them i guess. I had to beg on my knees to get a 1k credit card for my online transactions...mofo's.

But that's the whole problem of making money online... our country doesn't quite seem to comprehend the concept of making money without working a 9-5.

Income from referals is the best... they just look at you and say "So you are getting that money for NOTHING?!". :glugglug

mule 12-29-2003 02:50 AM

LOL, indeed. I tried to get an account with the Amro for my online checks. They flatly refused, would only open an account if I could show them a contract from my employer.

El Pres 12-29-2003 03:27 AM

Rabobank were total shite for me when I lived over there.

I ended up with ING and they were great, even got a creditcard out of them with no banking history, no other bank over there would give me one because I wasn't Dutch.

But yep checks take ages to clear.

Same in Spain they used to take 10-14 days now its a month, and Dollarmachine checks take 6 fucking weeks cause they're
from Canada.

I personally have little faith in the american laws and economy... would seem like too much of a risk to me :2 cents:

You don't need the bank to be in Holland. Just open a bank account with a US bank someplace in the US. Florida and New York banks have a lot of foreign customers. Look up the homepage of Bank of America and get a phone number to call them. Open up a checking account. Then you mail your checks to the bank or you have your partners direct deposit the amounts into your accounts. This way you save a lot on banking fees and you have the funds available within a few days and don't need to wait for a month until the funds clear. I have several bank accounts in the US and I am very satisfied with them. Saves me at least 1000 Dollars in fees every year.

Man, im already happy my checks make it to my door every week..sending them to America after that sounds like asking for a lot of problems.
I like the idea tho.

I am mailing checks from Czech Republic to Florida fro 3 years now, none of them ever got lost.

Another alternative would be to open up a US-Dollar account with American Express in your country. They usually accept US cheques and keep your balance in US. You just withdraw the money whenever the exchange rate is favourable for you. Plus they pay good interest on your balanace ....

Biggest bank in US is Bank of America. Just email their branch in Miami and they will give you further info (bankofamerica.com). I have opened up bank accounts thru mail and also in person while in the US. After 9-11 a lot of paperwork, but it is done within a short period of time. It helps if you have a mailing address in the US (a friend or relative) so you can also receive visa or mastercards, they will not mail the cards out of the country).
You might also like to look into Adam's Yellow pages. There is a good chance an American bank will have a branch in Adam .... just call them ...
