I assume that since your thinking of buying her a present that your not stalking her and that you two are friends. If so than a nice day at the spa would help - women love to be pampered.

But, I do have to take most of the blame. I started dating her just one week after breaking up with my "fiance to be". I still loved my ex and made the mistake of telling my current. Therefore you should not even acknowledge her birthday or try to be friends as you said you don't think you can be just friends after dating her and 99% of people can't.
