Bush's turkey for Iraq troops was fake

Bush's turkey for Iraq troops was fake

The Thanksgiving turkey George W Bush was seen serving to troops in Baghdad last week was a fake.

The photograph was shown around the world of a smiling Mr Bush apparently offering a platter with a huge, succulent turkey to US soldiers.

But it has emerged the Bush turkey had been a "model" adorning the end of the buffet line.

A report also said soldiers had been served their meals from cafeteria steam-trays, says the Daily Telegraph.

White House officials told the Washington Post they didn't know the "trophy" turkey would be there, nor that Mr Bush would pick it up.

Asked whether the turkey was genuine, Scott McClellan, Mr Bush's spokesman, made a rare joke by deflecting attention to the White House Christmas tree, due to be unveiled later he said: "The tree today, as far as I know is real."

Hahaha. This thread calls for some "OWNED" pics.

Matt 26z 12-05-2003 07:28 AM

This guy is the biggest sham.

It was a very stupid stunt they pulled in the first place. That's still a very dangerous country, and our president didn't belong there.

liquidmoe 12-05-2003 07:31 AM

What if the fake turkey was made out of C4 :Graucho

cluck 12-05-2003 07:34 AM

the left has sure been reaching hard lately. Would you have rather had him hold up a steam tray with a bunch of turkey already cut up.

Urm why not.. it would have been the truth, since when do we have to make shit up to make it newsworthy or to make it fit a certain image?

Corleone 12-05-2003 07:46 AM

bush is a liar...

See your point.. looks better even if it is false ... sells better to the average Joe in the US ...Hummmmmmmmm turkey, and a nice one...
A bit like the WMD: if the thruth would have been said, he couldn't have sold his personnal war to the US public... so, like the turkey, a bit of fake helped...

" Lately, the right have sealed they eyes and ears in denial"

rooster 12-05-2003 07:51 AM

whats the lie. He held up the centerpiece because it sure looked more festive than holding up a steamtray of already cut up meat. Isnt that a better image to send back to the soldiers loved ones.

If this is the best you got, get ready for another 4 years.

I guess you must have missed the entire 8 years of the Clinton administration.....

liquidmoe 12-05-2003 07:58 AM

Well its not the best, but since when is the centerpiece an actual turkey? Then again I aint one to celebrate thanksgiving much so I could be wrong, but it just seems like yet another white lie, like the entire war ;)

Careful there. LadyMischief made an idle crack about wishing the president would blow up over there and was dragged through 6 pages of angry American piss for it.

As for me, everyone knows how I love Bush....

I would have thought they'd have given him a rubber knife before the turkey. :winkwink: It wouldn't due to have him whack off a finger on camera! :glugglug

Sorry to say this, but if Clinton, Gore, or any other President had been there they most likely would have held us the centerpiece turkey as well. It's called a photo op. It's what presidents do. They have advisors and assistants whose job it is to notice potential photo ops and exloit them to make their boss look good so that they can keep their job 4 more years.

I don't love Bush, but I do agree that is reaching.

True but considering Bush's history, its questionable whether or not he even knew it was a fake turkey :Graucho

Bush did not even go to Baghdad, it was all staged in an airplane hanger outside of dallas.

That's sad. Patriotism used to be about fighting oppression and fighting for freedom, then again that was hundreds of years ago.

Actually it was a real turkey that was cooked and dressed up by the contractor company who served the meals. It just wasn't meant to be eaten because it was too pretty. Trust me, when you are over there eating the food you close your eyes and pretend it is something better. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

But you aren't allowed to shoot people that don't vote the way you want. That is a bit fascist, don't you think?

You have a point there, but democracy was meant for an informed public, if the public is not informed they can be manipulated, then you dont have democracy, and you dont have the foundation of your freedom.

I agree with you there, but misinformation can be a LOT more damaging than no information at all. I don't believe anything I see or read unless I research it for myself. I wish more people would open their eyes and look around. It seems like a lot of the public takes whatever they hear on the news without question. Who fucking cares about a fake/real turkey. Instead of spending Thanksgiving with his family, he flew 27 hours to some fuck dump of a war zone to spend time with people serving for their country. I think that says a lot.

But does one good deed make up for the lack of evidence supporting the cause for war, or the botched up plans to rebuild Iraq. I mean sure Saddam was an asshole, but if you are going to meddle in other country's affairs at least have your facts straight and your agenda straight. We removed Saddam from power but have we restored order? Putting aside the lack of evidence for beginning the war, since we are well past that, now that we have won, have we lived up to even our fake promises?

From the looks of things, he is gearing up for another moon hoax! I saw him and Elvis doubled up on Marylin Monroe over there at Area 51 last march. They looked like they were up to no good...

Furious_Female 12-05-2003 10:44 AM

Food on TV commercials is usually fake props too for a better quality picture and allure... someone better write to Barbra Walters and complain about these injustices!

Haha, great, you just described the last 200 something years... it's a photo op, big deal.

There's plenty of stuff to give Bush shit about, yet so many always pull out the trivial shit that makes one think "who the fuck cares?" A model turkey is news? Must be a slow day.

ThunderBalls 12-05-2003 10:53 AM

What cracks me up about Bushes visit is how he said the Iraqis would welcome the US with open arms. If thats the case then you would think Bush would have had a motorcade down the middle of Baghdad with the Iraqi people cheering instead of hiding behind the shield of darkness and having to sneak into Iraq like the coward he is.
