So how many atheists and/or non-Jesus believers celebrate Christmas?

Without me being labeled a religious freak, it's pretty well known that Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, son of God. So how many non-believers are hypocrites and celebrate this anyway? :winkwink:

Christmas has become completely commercialized, but even the Santa Claus myth was created by St. Nick, yet another Christian founded thing. But when push comes to shove, Christmas is still meant to be about Jesus... and it boggles my mind how so many evolutionists/agnostics will say how God doesn't exist etc, yet turn around and celebrate Christmas and Easter.

buddyjuf 11-30-2003 09:23 PM

mom is a believer
I am not

I dont celebrate Xmas as a religious holiday
I celebrate it as a FAMILY holiday

truly the best holiday for the family to get together :thumbsup

Shooter 11-30-2003 09:24 PM

It's a fucking holiday, who gives a shit what the original intent is.

Not like you have to give Bibles as presents.

Gruntled 11-30-2003 09:25 PM

Like 99% of all of the "christian" holidays, it was a pagan feast holiday, and the missionalries attributed the day to something in Christianity. They did this so that the local people they were trying to convert would not "loose" a holiday.

"I can't convert to christianity. Then I won't be able to celebrate huanamag!"

wait a fucking minute . . . . you are saying that if you believe in evolution you can't believe in God?

Arousal Design 11-30-2003 09:27 PM

At the very heart it is hypocritical, yes... however society has turned christmas into everything but jesus's birthday.

It just dont count no more =)

Furious_Male 11-30-2003 09:31 PM

When I look in the scanner I see many life times celebrating xmas. I will continue to do so.

Joe Citizen 11-30-2003 09:33 PM

I don't celebrate Christmas, I endure it.

Worst time of the year, bar none.

Thankfully, I'll be in Amsterdam.

Jamdin 11-30-2003 09:33 PM

Read Christmas' pagan origins :thumbsup

I celebrate Christmas by exchanging gifts with my family and enjoying the time being with them. Thank goodness it only comes once a year :winkwink:

No not at all. I believe in evolution and I also believe in God or a superior being myself.

But many evolutionists believe in that solely like many creationists believe in only God.

buddyjuf 11-30-2003 09:37 PM

I do not believe in god
yet I believe in religion

without religion, what would happen to our society?
religion, to me, is a way of life, a guide, a path of "right" and "good"

I am very greatful religion exists in society, I praise it!

one of my biggest morals in life is friendship and family
christmas brings both of those closer to me, I am greatful for it :)

in conclusion
I dont know why I just wrote this
but CHRISTMAS ROCKS! :thumbsup

LadyMischief 11-30-2003 09:39 PM

I am wiccan so christmas really isn't a part of my belief system. However, it's fun for the kids and so I get them stuff for christmas and all that. :)

XxXotic 11-30-2003 09:40 PM

Yeah I can't say I agree with any organized religion 100%, so I like to form my own beliefs with bits and pieces from each and from what evolution dictates :)

cluck 11-30-2003 10:06 PM

I think if god gave a crap about what we think about him he'd just tell us himself, not test us to see if we win the heaven lotto.

Good post, its amazing how many brainwashed idiots celebrate Christmas like its some holy day. Same thing with Easter Sunday its the Pagan celebration of Fertility for the God of Fertility "Ester" She symbols of fertility "Eggs and Rabbits".

Half the world is brainwashed with this bullshit from some pope in Roman ages changing the rules for the pagans its a joke.

buzzard 11-30-2003 10:12 PM

Religion is a disease

StacyCat 11-30-2003 10:14 PM

Im deistic. (mostly)

I celebrate the holiday season as a time of the year that I can be with my friends and family.

they have placed the birth of jesus more in march, why do yall insist on having it in december? It was taken from the pagan holiday Yule.

Serge_0prano 11-30-2003 10:14 PM

your all idiots ;-))))))) everyone is anti god because tv makes you think thats cool.......but you cant deny god exists, how did you get here? how did the world come to be? baaaaaaaa

I believe in God or a higher being. I believe in evolution too... I really don't care what TV or anyone says. I'm not into being trendy :)

Do black sheeps say baaaa? :uhoh

- AFN - 11-30-2003 10:22 PM

To some, its more of a cultural celebration.

Wasn't Halloween originally to scare away the "evil spirits"?

You are being silly. Just because I don't believe in your imaginary friend doesn't mean I don't enjoy being with my extended family a couple of times a year.

As for Serge's assertion that a Creator must exist because the world exists... well the non-sensical circular logic speaks for itself. By the same logic then there must be some supreme being who created our God. God+1? :eek7 And then a God+2 who created our God's God... :eek7 :eek7

WiredGuy 11-30-2003 10:53 PM

I'm Catholic, but not very practicing. I haven't been to a church in years but I do believe in a higher power. I do like xmas though!

aaron 11-30-2003 11:02 PM

people celebrate valentines day and it was made up by the card companies wasn't it?

also just because you don't believe in god the way christians do , doesnt mean you can't learn about their beliefs and take something they celebrated and celebrate it in your own way.

am i making sense?

people started giving each other gifts to honor the birth of jesus and people that came bearing gifts right? ok so why can i say since so many people are honoring that hell, i just think of it as a good day to make sure im sharing and doing something nice for people. it feels good to have a specific day to relax and where everyone can be happy and nice every single year.:2 cents:

Brad-Wishing 11-30-2003 11:04 PM

I celebrate Christmas and Easter because my great great grandparents were religious. My great grandparents were not but continued celebrating... and so on.

Now we just do it like every other athiest. Presents, eating food and getting together with family.

Christmas to me is a gathering of family and passing of gifts that just happens to be on Dec. 25th.

CoolE 11-30-2003 11:21 PM

We human beings have incredible imaginations. People will believe just about anything. And the more people around us who tell us something is true the more likely we are to believe it, even if there are NO real facts or data to back it up.

For example 67% of people in a recent poll believe that Bigfoot exists and is either a rare ape, prehistoric man, or the missing link. Only 20% see through the bullshit and believe Bigfoot is a myth.

94% believe in ESP.

24% believe we will be reincarnated when we die, but 36% disagree and believe we will be transported instead to "another dimension" (not heaven or hell, but someplace else).

(Source: http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa083099.htm )

The moral of the story: people will believe ANYTHING, even with no evidence whatsoever. We are natural born suckers, it's in our DNA, that's how we were so audacious as to think we could fly, or go to the moon.

I wouldn't give a damn about my fellow citizens' belief in God except for all the fucking wars it causes.

Wait. WHAT ?

Christmas is a pagan holiday. It falls in line with the winter solstice, when the days begin getting longer, hence, the celebration.

It's origin has nothing to do with the birth of the man Jesus. Jesus was born about the time the crops were coming in, and since their weather patterns are much the same as ours... that would make it .. probably September. Not December, the middle of winter.

Christians "gave" pagans the holiday to try to help them make the change to christianity easier. The star as well as the lights on the tree are from the pagans. The star is a pagan symbol and the lights represent the spirits. The tree represents the earth based religion.

Yea. We celebrate Christmas, I like candy and food.
