Of course.... I have a bunch of friends outside the US, and I feel for them. They have lost up to 30% However, I have noticed that on GFY most people not in the US have a very negative view of Bush and Americans, so those are the people I am delighted are losing $$$.

The people who insult the US, mock the President, our foreign policy realize that THERE business and financial abilities rely upon US - the Good Ole USA!!

Oh and it does hurt me, I travel outside the US on a regular basis - so think are more expensive for me. I like having a strong dollar so I can pick up goods and services at better prices.

I think the gov;t should not interfere with the dollar and let markets determine it..... but no one called and asked me.

How much did your economy drop prior to this 9% jump? If I rob you for 10 grand and give you back 500 bucks does that make it all alright? If so, let me know where to meet and we can make an exchange

Ahhhh we are coming out of a hole, but its a tiny one, and this if the first small steps of recovery. More jobs are being created.

Even at our low point the US economy was stronger and better then any in Europe. Our unemployment at its lowest was still better then any in Europe.

So everything is relative....

Oh and on the cheap dollar... we print up more money ,to make it eaiser to buy foreign goods. We are exchanging worthless paper for HARD GOODS!! ( This is a text book example of what Economists would call being OWNED!!!)

Thank you!

well that's all very nice, but the US depends on foreign inflows of capital to finance the current account deficit. All recent data suggest foreigners are sick of being "owned" and foreign inflows are way down. At the end of the day that worthless piece of paper will hurt Americans more than anyone else.

btw GDP growth wasn't over 9% it was 8.2% and not everyone who dislikes Bush or US foreign policy is anti-american (honestly) :)

Amen.
However I am ashamed that I stopped trying to get the point across.
And I join you in laughing at the ignorant ideas and assumptions both Americans and foreigners make about the President that has in fact done so much for the country.

Good point, but the deficit cannot possibly be extinguished. This is like... you always using one credit card to pay all your bills, and making the monthly payment to justify your spending. We are always spending and buying from foreign countries, so its impossible to just eliminate the debt.

And from an ignorant point of view: Who cares? What country would make us pay it up in full?

These are good points, one reason that I favor market setting the dollar.

As long as the dollar does not stay weak for years, and this is short term..... then it should be fine. I am all about letting the markets set the value of currency. ( sometimes it is impossible because of market interfence from other nations)

Good to have someone who understands some economics!
:thumbsup

Have a good Thanksgiving!

btw anyone who is really feeling pain from the USD ought to spend the time investigating currency options. I'm so glad I did, can sleep at night now :winkwink:

well you wouldn't have to pay it in full, but if one debt isn't paid, then the country would have defaulted on that debt. Imagine getting a blotch on your credit record. All of a sudden the risk of lending to the US is higher, the costs of borrowing therefore become higher.
It's not something that's likely to happen, but it is one of the worries that have an effect on the currency and in the long run these things feedback on the economy.

Ahh, a textbook example of how stupid Americans are according to foreign people. Remember what it did for Germany in the 1920s and 1930s, dumbass!! Everyone was a millionaire but could not even by food. You just keep shouting and we (non-Americans) keep on laughing.
