who is your favorite sports person?

We've had a lot of sports related posts lately so I thought I would ask everyone's favorite sports person of all time.

Mine is Mike Schmidt. I think it is a case of him being at his height when I was at the right age to be mystified.

As a philly kid I guess Dr J was close but mine was much more of a baseball house.

Baseball - Thurman Munson
Football - Jack Lambert
Basketball - Doctor J

Only got to see 2 of them play live - Would have loved to get 50 yard line seats to see the old time steel curtain.

Of course there was probably more to see of them at the 20 since so many times that is as far as the opposing offense got

angeleyes 10-15-2003 07:04 AM

Lance Armstrong... Have to respect him for battling cancer, etc. and still managing to win the tour de france a shitload of times consecutively. :2 cents:

Just goes to show how the world is devided in sport.
I have never, ever heard of any of these people.
I class myself as a big sports fan, I read all the sports sections on the nationals and watch sport on TV as I sit here working.

I cannot name a singal basketball player. Hang on there was that team with Lemon Kelly and a bucket full of water that they threw over the crowd, but it wasnt water it was confetti, and always won? There was a cartoon about them.

Baseball? NO I cant name a single player other than Babe Ruth and a bloke I saw mentioned on here who is being done for rape. Kobe someone? Hang on some bloke called big bird? and a black guy who got aids? Can't recall his name.

Football? A few names. Dan marino, The fridge, another guy who chucked the ball for the San Fransisco team, whos name has passed me by.

Whilst the rest of the world plays all the same sports, isn't it strange that the USA plays sports that no one hardly has a clue what is going on? Take basketball. Why bother with the previous 59 mins and 50 seconds, when I have watched it the only important part of the game seems to be the last 10 seconds!

I am not slagging these sports off, just saying that its a shame that the USA doesnt participate at a decent level on the world stage at any sport hat the rest of the world play.
:2 cents:

Yea, then Mark Coleman just recently tore Don Frye apart and Coleman sucks IMO.
Tank's fighting that fat fuck cabbage next month. 0/3 for his "comeback" or he might get luckly. Kinda feel sorry for tank:( must be embarassing.
The best MMA Fighter is Fedor. The HW from pride.

Fair enough- I don't think Don is the best fighter either, but he's a class act and conducts himself as such...

Feydor or Mirko are they guys right now.

BTW- Anybody see Bob Sapp get his handed to him by Remy Bonjasky until he pulled a punk-assed foul by hitting him the back of the head after he was down in K-1? Guy should be kicked out of K-1 altogether. Maybe he'll go to Pride so he can get his punk-ass beat down by Mirko (again).

Is this turning into a fighter thread:thumbsup

Mirko is pretty hardcore. He fucked up my boy Vovchanchin(spelling), but Fedor is unreal. Fedor has a background in Sombo, which is grappling, but is also an incredible stricker and tough as nails. Very hard to fight someone with that combo. I see Fedor being the next big thing in MMA. Mirko has a good future ahead of him too. He has awesome stricking skills, but needs to work on his ground game if he wants to fight Fedor.

Yea, I saw Bob Sapp get his ass handed to him by Remy. Bob's just another one of those big strong guys with no skills. Did you hear that Tyson and Bob signed a contract or are about to. Don't know if it'll be k-1 rules or boxing, but should be fun to watch. I mean tyson would take him apart. I would love to see a mma fight between them, but that prolly won't happen

John McEnroe. Every big match was an event, like a Shakespearian tragedy. One man against everyone: his opponent, the linesmen, the umpire, the rowdy crowd, the cameramen, the airplanes (when he played in NY). Unlike other male players on tour, he didn't hit the ball very hard; instead he relied on touch and finesse, like an artist painting a canvas. To a young kid growing up and feeling alienated in the world, McEnroe was a breath of fresh air. I could relate to the guy.
