Anyone here drive an Escalade?

I am thnking about trading my Tahoe in for an Escalade. Any comments would be appreciated.

Ross 09-26-2003 04:12 PM

Don't drive one, if you could get them over here I would tho.......

I think they are amazing!

Eric 09-26-2003 04:15 PM

yeah I feel the same way. I have wanted one for about 2 years now. With the new tax breaks for buying big cars I am seriously thinking about it. I could write off the whole fucking thing

Ross 09-26-2003 04:17 PM

Eric just go for it. Think about pimping in one of those things......
I think they are real nice. The roads over here are not wide enough for them tho :(

Mike AI 09-26-2003 04:20 PM

I have a suburban, a tahoe and escalade. The escalade is by far my favorite... its a great ride, worth the extra money, especially for city use ( not towing or off road) Make sure you get the GPS system - Cadilac makes the BEST GPS system out there!!

check with your tax attorney or accountant on that..

unless you do something on the side like sale real estate ;)

but there is a $6K tax credit that you can take on vehicles over 6k lbs... but that loop hole is closing after this year...

GrimShawn 09-26-2003 04:26 PM

must be nice

Mike that is one Phat ride man!

I went to school for geography so the GPS system is kind of a waste as I love maps and don't get lost. Odd that you say that about towing though. Cause I heard that they tow really nice. Maybe it has to do with the rims and tires you have on that bad boy.

brizzad 09-26-2003 04:28 PM

mike.. are those spinners?

excellent ride, btw
and yeah, lexus has the best GPS.. even if you don't need it, it's still fun to just have

Not sure if you have seen this Greg...

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/tax...?prodtype=itax

And this is for vehicles purchased between May 2003 and January 2005.

gregtx 09-26-2003 04:36 PM

intersteing read... but how do you justify 50% of your driving as "business related.. commuting does not count..

and i believe if you were to write off that amount from your 1040.. it would throw a big red flag for an audit.. in which a vehicle log would be required..

That is not a problem at all

I take several trips a year back to southern ca to visit family. And Oh well I guess I went to visit Silvercash and Capital Bucks and FetishCash or any of the many people I know down there. Also I do a couple trips a year to the lake. Oh would you look at that I used the truck to pull my boat so I could do a photo shoot.

And keeping a vehicle log is rather easy.

Eric 09-26-2003 04:52 PM

BTW Greg my commute is about 2 miles :1orglaugh Gotta love living that close to work. Only thing better is working from home!

gregtx 09-26-2003 04:53 PM

lol.. have fun :winkwink:

Yup I did... Here is why. If I take this truck I can claim the entire thing as a write off on my taxes, not something I can do with my Tahoe cause it was bought before May of 2003. So I can take a 55k write off and based on my tax bracket that would put my over all purchase just over 30k. So you do the math homeboy! :thumbsup

I test drove the escalade then climbed into a denali... was much more impressed with the denali..it almost looks identical to the escalade but can do things the "pretty " caddy cant..

I bought the denali.

If you want a pretty ride and dont want to use it for towing or off road...go for it..!

I have a escalade in pewter. Just got in in July. I still don't quite understand the whole write off thing with that though? I'll have to look over that again. By the way I love the ride :) :thumbsup

RichC 09-26-2003 05:21 PM

I have had 2 navigators, love them. New 2003/4 is very nice.

Test drive one, see which one you like better.

basically if you have 1099 or self-employment income that is in an industry where you need a car, you can write off up to $100K on your taxes if you buy a SUV that weighs more than 6000 pounds (gross vehicle weigh rating: really the weight + people + stuff...an BMW which weights 4850 pounds X5 qualifies too).

anyone can take the deduction - the problem will be that if you ever got audited and didn't work in a field where driving a SUV was necessary, you'd be screwed and fined and owe back taxes.

luckily i work in real estate and have outside other RE consulting income which i'll be 1099d on and i may offset that by buying an Escalade or X5.

i'd recommend you talk to an accountant to see how this write-off applies to you. its worth it to get the exact #s as to how it applies to your situation.

Wow your buddy on the inside let you know that Cadillac is the same as Chevy?? Next you will say they are all owned by GM!!

There is no doubt that there is a $5k or so premium for being a Cadi, but the Escalade has some nice features that you cannot get in Tahoes - not even the top of the line Tahoe.

If you can afford it, go with the Escalade.

Of courset the cadi has more to it... but it's the same chassie, drive train and basicall body....

Just like Mitsubishi and dodge... The Stealth and the 3000... some minor differences.. but basically the same vehicle.
