Linux is for bitches

http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/ In the beginning, Linux was pretty cool. It was free (always a plus), had a rapid development cycle, a moderately knowledgeable user base, and a funny mascot. Then the pinheads arrived. I don't have an issue with Linux so much as the user base it attracts. More and more I'm reading about and experiencing what I like to refer to as the "dumbing down of Linux". Now you may say, "Well this is to be expected... Hell, look at the Windows user base." Yes that's true, but the Windows user base doesn't claim to be "l337", a "hax0r", or anything of the sort. Linux users do and often. I hope to use this site to poke fun at, possibly educate, and clean up the Linux user base. I have these simple beliefs: 1) The root partition should be small... painfully so. 2) /var is not for web servers or their content. 3) The kernel has one job: to keeping the system up, running and stable, not to serve web content - I don't care if it's faster from the kernel. 4) Really understanding IP and the applications built upon it is a requirement before you are "1337" 5) I don't care how fast something is, if it comes at the cost of security or stability it's stupid. 6) *BSD is the way. (Free, Open, or Net - pick one) |

And finally,
BSD -vs- LINUX http://66.238.56.226/~com/pics/gfy/bsd.jpg http://66.238.56.226/~com/pics/gfy/linux.jpg |
uhm, so if a shitload of newbie wannabe hacker scriptkiddies started using BSD tomorrow you would stop using it since now its no good anymore? =)

*edit* also note: trading speed for stability and security is just dumb |

You guys all look like fucking dweebs. I use both. Depends on what Im doing. :321GFY

i still use my amiga :thumbsup

everytime my friend and me go by the unix monthly magazine and it comes with the linux cd, the break it in half and throw it as far as we can down the street as we can.
personal thoughts. linux ok for desktop. but for servers bsd. everything is based on bsd. system v was based on bsd. everything is generated from bsd. most linux people that try to switch to bsd end up going back cause they dont have a clue. |

hellz yeah, why don't more people understand this? i ran asshat 7 once. worst mistake ever. that thing is so ass-backwards i can't even figure it out. but, on the bright side, i had a fully running X workstation in like 15 minutes. i think all i had to tell it was username, password, and network info. lame :( |

-edit- was it 3.0 or 4.0... i dont remember they had a whacked version jump to 7.0 in there somewhere to keep up with redhat's release numbers... blah whatever. |
gentoo is pretty nice, running it on my laptop. BSD seems solid, heard alot of good things about it, just never got around to use it much. redhat kind of sucks yes.. rpm hell.

i read the explanation for that on the slack site. basically, it was because users were feeling inferior and complaining that the ver numbers were so low, particularly in comparison to asshat. so, they made a jump to make slack sound "current" with the rest of the commercialized linux world. |

I like Gentoo, but first and formost, USE WHAT WORKS. FreeBSD is proven solid on webservers, it's most people's choice. Linux is proven to perform better on mailservers and database servers, generally. They're both available, use the best tool for the job. |

i use tux .. it's modded to prevent hot linking .. but tux on redhat linux smokes thttpd on bsd .. period. if u can secure your shit and need all the speed you can get and also keep the kernel stable then i dont see how running tux or a kernel space httpd is stupid =/

i don't know anything about any of this, and in fact, didn't read a single post in this thread... but I still feel compelled to agree.
