Very Basic Tip For Newbies - Create Your Own 404 Trap!
Ok most of you guys do galleries right?
now whether you do 1 or 12 galleries per day, stick to this system and you will have a good amount of 404 hits to play with! use 1 domain for galleries. as well, use 1 folder named "gal" or "galleries" or whatever, i use "galleries" usually. everytime you make a gallery, put it in a *numbered* folder! now the trick to this is, give them all spaced out numbers! for example: domain.com/galleries/3/index.html domain.com/galleries/3/3.html domain.com/galleries/3/7.html domain.com/galleries/3/12.html domain.com/galleries/3/17.html now you make a new gallery, put it in a new numbered folder, again make it spaced out numbers! for example: domain.com/galleries/14/index.html domain.com/galleries/14/3.html domain.com/galleries/14/7.html domain.com/galleries/14/12.html domain.com/galleries/14/17.html Now that this is setup, its time to catch these hits! lets create an htaccess file. make a file named .htaccess and upload it to /galleries/ **note - name the file EXACTLY as i have shown. .htaccess in this file, this is what you will add .... ErrorDocument 301 http://www.whatever-page.com ErrorDocument 401 http://www.whatever-page.com ErrorDocument 403 http://www.whatever-page.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.whatever-page.com ErrorDocument 500 http://www.whatever-page.com and thats it! htaccess can get much more involved, but for the purpose of this excersize we will leave it as is. just enough to catch, and redirect your 404 hits. I would suggest sending them to either an email sponsor, or to a hub with an exit console. your choice. Follow this system and in a VERY short period of time, you will have a decent amount of traffic at your fingertips. And to change sponsors all you need to do is change that one .htaccess file! very simple, very effective, very profitable! The way this works is that when a user goes to a free gallery, a lot of times he likes what he see's but doesnt want to sign up or pay for anything. so instead he tries to be slick and find your previous, or next gallery in the set. hence, he falls right in your trap! enjoy .. and stay tuned. :thumbsup |
Thnx, never thought of it :winkwink:

i was doing that back in 96'

using 404 in your gals is a bit risky since at one or another point you'll do some wrong linking and you'll end up in a blacklist
|
have you noticed that i can always tell you something right without ever agree with you? It's an art.

thanks
maybe I will be able to afford the coffee now. |

I did that for a while, but I took it off because of blacklisting problems. Give it a shot though and it might work for you!

im all faults,thats why. |

you are providing quality galleries for the surfers, no errors on page. but if the surfer ends up being a sneaky fuck, he doesnt end up with more free porn. not sure how you would be blacklisted unless you delete galleries or submit wrong link. |
Where'd you steal that article from? :1orglaugh
|
Anytime I submit a gallery, all bandwidth is covered by 404 traffic alone.
|
thanks, I'm doing so already

Since when are you qualified to give advice? Posting dumbass marketing suggestions from 1996 will not build you respect or untarnish your horrible reputation. You just keep posting more and more and more. You post so much that people have just accepted you as the GFY idiot people love to bash. Excessive posting of shit when you are hated by so many should be grounds for banning. GFY is littered with your shit. You are should not be allowed to have more posts than you make in dollars per year. |
Yah i think most people have been doing this for a long time but a great idea for those who might not have thought about it..
I usually like to try and put the galleries under a directory like http://yourdomain.com/members/gallery/1/page1.html so the surfer is more inclined to think that there may be some members pics he can view without authorization just by altering the url :). This is kind of like throwing a couple galleries together on a spare domain and password protect them , then *pass along the password to some password sites .. The surfer thinks they are getting PAYSITE porn for free. I havent done this in a while but my brother used to make good coin doing it :) |

ya know what? you and the rest of the asslickers around here bitching about "1996 blah blah blah" are the same jerk off's that wont share any useful tips, yet instead go around bashing people for the fun of it. how about a few other tips from 1996 that may actually be useful to some newbies? stupid fuck ... next time keep your mouth shut |
I thought you said you were gonna shoot yourself.
Christ I ain't never said a bad thing about you, but coming on the board saying you are gonna shoot yourself. Why don't you just shut up and leave, in my book you overstayed your welcome, how pathetic. |

Yeah we don't pollute this board with old marketing tips - there are newbie boards etc for that - you know where they are and the articles they have etc ;) There are dozens of resource sites out there that explain everything in this biz. You are far from being able to provide anything useful to this board and if you DID have something useful to offer no one would listen to you. So posting old ass tips is just insulting. I tried helping you before and told you not to be such a post whore etc - to try and earn some respect. I have been watching and reading your thousands of posts over the months on GFY and I am sick of them now. I don't know why GFY lets itself get polluted like this? Quote:

Combine this with a fucking blitzkrieg of pop ups, and auto-installing dialers, explorer add-ons, and homepage redirectors and you're the most popular girl at the party.
Next week I will be doing a master class on redirecting gallery traffic... |

Usually, if you have a lot of traffic, it is a very bad idea to AllowOverride directions from your htaccess files. Your Apache will spend too much time checking each directory for htaccess files instead of serving users. It is much better to place such directives directly in the configuration of Apache.

arent you the guy that was crying poor a week ago and saying you couldnt pay shit and you were leaving GFY
now your giving us all tips? :thumbsup |

Oh I thought this was going to be a thread on FPA exit chains... LOL...

most people that admin their own servers control their own 404 traffic or *should* know how. at ease anyway. but good tip for the people that didnt know how.
can also do Errordocument 404 http://www.blah.com/lask.html to redirect traffic to send 404 traffic if you are interested :) |
I don't think that user which doesn't want to pay for porn, and so will try to find url of your 'next' page,
will buy porn from your 404 page when he'll find yout that he didn't piss you, but you pissed him off :) Does anybody have statistics how many signups comes from 404 ? Isn't it only way how to raise your bandwidth with shitty traffic ? (when we know that most of the people comming there will never pay for porn, and maybe don;t even have credit card) |

404 traffic produces signups. I don't have any stats off hand but I know it does. :) |

b) many non-newbies with dedicated servers don't even know what their Apache config file is or how to get to it ;) c) the folks that *do* know how to do it usually have more than one domain on a box and the traffic from each would work best if sent to a different 404 trap, so .htaccess in the root directory of the domain is the best way to go in that case But other than that yeah I agree with ya:thumbsup |

Besides, if they're snooping around, spank 'em. Any page they happen to land on is another opportunity to show them some ads and make money - and that's what we're in business to do. |
You guys are dicks.
The post is titled "Very BASIC tip for NEWBIES." If you aren't interested in BASIC tips for NEWBIES then don't click! It's a good idea and I'm putting it in the next edition of my book. |

Alot of newbies wont go to ANY other boards or resource centers, so i figured id drop it here. i mean, this is a webmaster board right? why not try to help someone now and then? :2 cents: |
Rich is helpful and was one of the few people that was nice to me when I first found this board, which wasn't too long ago.
Often, on message boards all over, I see alot of people that are nice, and aren't really that bad get ostracized for some bad posts, and EVERY SINGLE post they make after that will be flamed no matter the content. They start getting flamed by people that haven't even read most of their earlier posts and are just jumping on a band wagon. I've went back and read mosts of Rich's posts, and he does post some stupid stuff some times, but most often it is just meant to get a rise out of everybody. I honestly don't think he's a bad person. :2 cents: |

Its better than getting nothing :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you just make random names with no htaccess. A) user is less likely to try and look for more porn B) if they do they wont find anything but a blank page --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:
Do i have rock hard statistics on 404 traffic ?? NO Is it very hard to figure out that a 404 that is blank will generate $0 ?? NO IS any amount of money better than no money :) YES heh TO THE CHEESEMUFFINS. Whatever your opinion on this lilrich guy may be , bashing his thread over what he has written in previous threads is just childish, This advice he wrote REGARDLESS of where and how frequently it can be found on the net already, is still good for people who dont know, so Stop BASHING , if you dont like advice ( as long as it isnt BAD advice ) then just move along and be on your merry little way. If everyone did that then posts that people DONT need would just fade on down the list, instead of the most idiotic posts/sissyfights being always ont the top. |
