Swedes: Your reaction on the Euro vote?

Kind of surprised not to see any threads about it yet.
But what do you guys think of the result?

As you might know, Denmark voted no to the Euro 3 years ago and I can't say that we have been sorry about it...

Jeppe 09-14-2003 01:50 PM

To the non European folks: 56.2% of the Swedish people voted no to take part in the European Monetary Union. Meaning that they will be one of 3 countries outside the EMU.

Paparazzi 09-14-2003 01:54 PM

fucking sad

exocet 09-14-2003 02:01 PM

History is repeating.

But modern communications, weaponry & good old fashioned mind control will prevent any civil wars :)

The Euro is a stupid thing in the first place!
It sucks, I mean, you have loads of different economies all with the same currency, so the ones that are doing good pay for the ones that are doing bad! And also, when that shit was forced up on us here in Spain, the price of everything rised about 20% !!
Now that really fucking sucked

Anna_O 09-14-2003 02:12 PM

I think it's sad that we voted no.

It's the beginning of United States of Europe.. They have to go step by step.. The money was a crucial step.

I don't think you can generalize like that and say that all who voted no, only think of their own economy. Many highly educated people also voted no in the Danish vote because they thought Denmark as a whole would be better off without the Euro.

I think it is seen more as a question of more integration into the European Union or not, and an awful lot of people don't want that... Especially since EU, in my opinion has a huge lack of democracy. But that is a different discussion.

Anyway it makes you think that all (?) the countries that actually voted about the Euro chose not to become part of it...

Sweden, Denmark and United Kingdom are not taking part in the European Monetary Union (EMU) but are still members of the European Union (EU).

The EU consists of 15 (16 including Estonia) countries but only 12 of them are taking part of the EMU.

YES 41,8%
NO 56,1%
BLANK 2.1%

INVALID 0,5%
VOTER TURNOUT 81,2%

But, hey. We have wonderful a country anyway. Nothing beats our girls! :Graucho :winkwink:

Yeah, that would really suck!!
Too much difference between the countries for that to work properly. I mean we have everything from Turkey to Norway, Russia to Spain. Then we have tiny places like Iceland with 300.000 inhabitants, and big countries like Germany, France and UK to name a few. Don't like the idea at all!

What I do like is that people in Europe don't need a visa with in Europe, free trade ect. But I think that is enough :)

maxjohan 09-14-2003 03:09 PM

when you live here on GFY all day like I do..I'm very sad. Can we still be friends? plzzz..:helpme

Now we're something in between..I guess all politicans going to diss us now in EU. We're not 100% now..:(

not that I care to much what other politicans think about other politicans..:). But I get it..Goran is very sad now because he's gonna get dissed down there..not in his face but probably behind his back. :2 cents:

davvve 09-14-2003 03:13 PM

I also think it's sad that we (sweden) don't fully join the European collaboration... It's so typical that we always have such a negative attitude towards new stuff. I think many swedes voted no just because they are afraid of changes.

I agree, It's like Lars said it..are you comeing with us out, no we rather stay here at home. :1orglaugh

so simple and perfect said :thumbsup

I really don't see why. I guess we are to afraid of getting owned by the bigger countries...like they whould take over our country or something like that. And what's wrong with that..I don't say no to other countries girls :thumbsup

Nolla

Ah, ok thanks,

The countries with the Euro, I was under the impression it was 16 countries?

I am from England.
We don't want your fucking Euro's thank you.
We are quite happy with our Pounds.
Thank you.

Anna_O 09-14-2003 04:13 PM

The majority of the people who voted yes live in middle class, upper middle class and high class areas. They are usually well educated....

:winkwink:

It doesent matter if you join or not
absolutly nothing happend to the danish economy
because of our NO wote.

What does matter is that swedens main marked
(like denmark) is the EU. So if you like it or not, the
swedish economy is depending on the Euro.

Now you are just in the same shithole as Denmark
Your economy have to follow what ever goes on in
the EU, and you cant even bitch about it

Sorry to say, but I dont think EU will care alot
about your NO vote
You realy just fucked your self

So true

milambur 09-14-2003 11:52 PM

Easy tiger... nobody is getting fucked, really... we "survived" a long time (mankind) without the ? and we can for sure continue in denmark, sweden & UK without the ?. Now I am sure that within 2-3 years you can spend ?'s anywhere in those countries, so for the normal person who does not have to buy/sell anything abroard you will be doing just fine...

Other countries are actually suffering because of the ?, fx. Ireland which has a very high inflation-rate cannot raise the interest-rate in order to lower inflation, as the monetary policy is a euro-wide decision... now that can really hurt an economy... anyway this topic is really a never ending story.... and there is a lot of pros and cons which are both valid...

I live in Vienna and things went up almost 30% in many areas, that sucks... and to Ludvig: de har skam også totalt lækre babes på island!!!

hottoddy 09-15-2003 01:12 AM

I predict more countries will soon turn back from the Euro.

No they wont but the countries that run the Euro side by side with their own existing currency will continue to prosper as they are now.

Delaying the inevitable.

polish_aristocrat 09-15-2003 02:22 AM

LasseKongos 09-15-2003 02:33 AM
