Help! Computer is constantly rebooting!
My win2k machine is in what seems like a neverending reboot loop. it starts to load (gets to the windows screen) and then goes into reboot. it won't go into safe mode, it won't boot from CD.
anyone have any ideas? how can I fix this fucker?? |
I have a desktop doing that too :) Except its WinXP
|
Sounds a bit like the Blaster worm?
You ran Norton on the disk? |
Uh oh.
|
I'll paypal $50 to the person who can provide me with a working fix to my solution. If what you say works, $50 is yours

I ran norton on it last friday.
nothing detected. I haven't been able to get on my machine today other than first boot up. I clicked on a link to a page on my server and it rebooted, it hasn't come back since |

Yoooo, I help for free. It's the Blaster worm as told before. Go download the patch. Your system won't reboot if it can't connect to the internet. |
I was able to get into safe mode in the command prompt once (haven't since) I looked for the msblast.exe file and it was not on the machine
|
read about the blaster. That is one of the symptoms

still rebooting even without the network cable plugged in:-(
the removal tool would be great if i could get into the machine to install it. |
have you altered the hardware in the machine? If you can boot it into safe mode run sysprep from a command prompt. May fix your issue.

Have you tried getting it to boot to safe mode??? edit: asked too late lol |
When exactelty does it reboot? Random?
Could be other virri. Or your CPU cooler fell of your CPU/is dead. CPU overheats -> reboot. Could be 1000 things, hard to tell. |
|
I would open the machine and re-seed all your cards. If it goes through the boot process (starting windows 2000) and reboots after that point.... chances are pretty good that its a hardware issue...
also be sure your processor is configured at the correct speed. |

Yep... I had the exact same problem... was Blaster Worm.
Use this link to remove it: http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virus.aspx?ID=36265 Good Luck! |

Save yourself time and stress...forget fixing it...install windows on another hard drive slap the faulty one in as a slave, get your data and move on...
|
From what I understand (this is what my computer does) he cant run a fix because Windows never loads to the point of being usable. My Windows XP machine loads to the Windows XP loading screen, then reboots. Its not a big deal because its a 2 year old desktop I barely used.
|
If it won't boot from CD it could be a hardware problem. But since it reboots always at the some moment... I give up. Try booting from floppy with hardware check proggie.
|
I just noticed this on bootup... what does it mean??
primary IDE channel no 80 conducter cable installed? |
|
It's the DCOM RPC exploit.. just run windows update. You have to beat the attack though, we were racing over here to get windows update finished before it reboot again : )

Do you have another harddrive with a operating system ?
Plug it in as master and set your fuckup as slave. Take whatever you need from fuckup and transfer it to your master. Then unplug master and in with fuckup again and the magic: Format C: or boot fuckup from your CD with your OS disk and reinstall everything over your current install. Might help ! |
