heh. i dunno about smacking the shit out of a cat for doing that, make it an outdoors cat, dont let it in the house if you dont want an animal pissing on certain areas...

however, i'm not one of those "animals are so precious / tree hugger" homos. theres this one stray cat that keeps pissing on our front porch floor mat and fuckin w/ our other cats.... next time i see it im aiming for it right in the head with a pellet gun. die.

Cat's don't recognize beatings as a way of learning something. Quite stupid on your part either way, and hope you die, BUT, using a spray bottle and spraying it in the face with water I find works well. Cats hate it. Also, cover the smell of piss with a citrus type scent, cats hate that as well, otherwise they might keep doing it if they keep smelling the piss scent.

Usually it's because something's wrong with their box, or it's a health problem (if they haven't done it before). Did you change litters? Some cats are REALLY particular about their litters... I have one who if I change litter pisses on somethign RIGHT in front of me so I know he's mad.. Change his litter back and all is well. Do the litter test and if that's not it.. what' has changed in the house? Did you get a kitten? Have a baby? Anything? Barring all that, take your cat to the vet and get them checked for a urinary tract infection...

If he doesn't want the cat anymore he should give it up for adoption-not beat the hell out of it. Cats don't understand that, and as LM said---it's most likely a health related issue.

When your cat pees where he's not supposed to, and right in front of you, he's trying to let you know that something is wrong. Get him to a vet. UTI or crystals (like kidney stones) are very common reasons for this.
