Musicians Against Rap
Musicians Against Rap
It's a group of musicians that think rap is hurting the music scene. I just thought I'd invite you to check it out. I just started it myself a few minutes ago . I have this strange feeling it will start a bunch of shit. I hope this isn't considered spam here, since I'm not selling anything and although it does have a message board, it's a group, not a discussion BBS. People get all excited when you trash thier music, politics or religion. The basic premise is that rappers aren't really musicians or singers at all and that rap shouldn't be classified as music, but rather poetry with a soundtrack, just like movies. :BangBang: |
well....I can make the same retort about certain heavy rock bands...but to do so would be plain stupid.
|
music is like design... it's all about personal preferance.
Personally, I think, most, not all, rappers are rip off artists... sampling others music with their rhymes. Please, they are talkers, not singers. Sting, Chris Cornell, Prince, for examples... they are true musicians, original music and lyrics plus variety in their styles... that is what makes a good musician. Again... just my opinion. :2 cents: |
anything with rythm and beat is music.
|
Mainstream rap is bullshit, just like pop, and short haired jump metal bands.
Why single out rap? At least that shit is funny. |
Only thing worse than rap is country :1orglaugh

what an idiot..isn't that what ALL music is? poetry over noise? You should go read up on where music orginated from and how it started..you might be surprised...Just a hint,it wasn't some guy on an electric guitar screaming over some other guy with no rhythm beating the fuck out of some drums :glugglug A lot of rap is bullshit, any REAL rap fan will tell you that..just like any rock fan will tell you limp bizkit is bullshit..or any REAL singer will tell you the backstreet boys are bullshit I'll try to give you some songs that even if you hate rap you could appreaciate the production of the music..I've got a ceelo cd in now so thats what you're going to sample CeeLo-1)gettin grown 2)damn 3)one for the road download em' |
rap is a juvenille musical form. As Britney and Avril are packaged to young girls, Eminem and 50 cent are packaged to 14 year old white boys that want to give the world the finger.

I'm starting a group.
Rap Against Shitty Threads. I guess I'll be the first victim. |
Actually, I don't hate rap at all. It's like what paysite owners feel about TGP. It's bad for business. DJ's are cheaper and have taken 50% if not more of the gigs bands could and would have played.
When you drive down the road and come to a stop light and next to you is a low rider with tinted windows and a loud booming coming from the car, not only is it annoying, but they are automatically placed in your mind as gang or drug dealers and I personally have no respect for any type of music that's funded largely by pimps and drug dealers and go around shooting each other and thinking it's cool. (Besides making themselves look uneducated by the way they talk and act.) Music IS personal preference, but to real musicians (not general public) rap is an insult to true artistry and talent. |

hmmm and what did your parents have to say about the generation you grew up in?... Because as you can see, you've turned into them |

it is now, mainstream is,but whos packaging it? white people :glugglug go attack the money hungry record executives and a&r reps who to me,have ruined a culture...You say they're ruining the suburbs by bringing rap music to the masses,I think they ruined the hiphop culture...so maybe we do agree on something |

But dont confuse music with lyrics or image... :2 cents: |

i like everything but country music.
but, admittedly remixes are starting to get a little annoying. sometimes new artists will have the remix released before the actual song. it's getting pretty lame in that department, as history progresses it does seem to be getting much harder to find original music. hell, look at "house of the rising sun"... it was a remix from the 1900's. so much of current pop artists and whatnot remix and use lyrics from other songs, it's more like they're manufactured than given birth as they should be. and they use the modular theory like in programming. everything's interchangable. but, i have nothing against any genre but country. maybe because i started out in the country. |
Maybe a few of you with opinions would express them on my site?
Musicians Against Rap and Re-mix An opinion isn't very valid without an opposing counterbalance. :thumbsup |

so Sting is more of a musician than ummm Rza..because why? he plays the guitar? he sings? what? I know plenty of MC's that sing, play the guitar and even the classical piano...why is one more of a mucisian than the other?....basically because it's not your taste of music, bottomline |

Censoring someone's art is a moral outrage.
At one time impressisonist painters were outcasts, had to exhibit in garages, now they all hang in major galleries. Rap is a form of art that is as valid as anything else out there. Self expression is the key to happiness. Just turn the station if you dont like it. |
rap outsells any other music out there it won't go anywhere. 50cent sold 1.5 million cds in 3 days and 5 million in a week and a half. Nelly when he first came out sold 10 million records on his debut album in 6 weeks. :321GFY

Nelly can swallow my pubic hair clippings without a glass of water.

of course this dude is going to hate rap, the website in his profile is "http://fastguns.us" a country music site. he is probably just some fat racist kid who's daddy told him black people are bad. His site is hosting on aol anyway, thats not a surprise. :2 cents:

it's the music of the world now, just like every generation has...and it's always hated by the older crowd :glugglug |

I would think to be a musician a person needs to either a) be able to sing and/or b) be able to play an instrument.
Talking over machine generated beats, and sampling from actual bands like aerosmith, is a pretty low form of music. |

There is only one continent music orginated from, everything else has been a ripoff..should I say it's not music? never |
Quote:
Hmmm, wasn't there a rapper that sampled one of his songs? |
Quote:
Hell, I listen to a lot of shit I am sure no one here would like let alone consider music... Go to kazza and download a few songs by Coil.... they are way out there, but being a rap fan, I am sure you would hate it. Hey, I like anything that is good... including opera. I just do not think rap is good nor do I think that any of them have any talent... except maybe for Snoop Dog. Again... this is just my personal opinion and taste. |

accomplishments = sales, awards and money? indeed,Sting has all of that and than some...That soft rock shit has been around forever though, rap music really didn't do ANYTHING until the mid 90's as far as sales... Sampling? big deal... Rob Zombie just sampled brick house and put a rapping female on there, wtf? Lenny Kravitz called on Earthtone3 to remix some of his songs,no doubt too... Recorded music has been around for awhile, theres only so many cords that can be played, nothing wrong with sampling,in a lot instances it happens by mistake The guy who invented the typewriter would be bitching about the computer age,it's called evolution...Machines are everything,we should use them to make music too and yeah, finally you see,it's a matter of taste as to what people call music...Me personally,I grew up on rap music..but I respect and listen to any and every kind of music, including Sting...The good thing about people who listen to rap music,we aren't closed minded :glugglug |
Quote:
dude i tell ya what, catch me on icq tomorrow, think you've got me on your list..I'll give you some songs, songs I know you can handle and I promise you,you will at least respect the music |
Quote:
Please, puff daddy, pee diddy or what ever the fuck he calls himself these days... sampling a Led Zepplin song.. shit man, that was just plain wrong. I think these rapper who sample the mainstream music in their songs are just looking for acceptance in the white world. |
