Canadians - what bank do you use? (and that works with paypal?)
Anyone?
|
Scotiabank.
|
i use royal but i'm going to move to scotia.
|
Why Scotia? I'm with Bank of Montreal and sort of get pissed off at their little charges.. I have US company account and a Canadian personal with them.
Cheers, Matt |
I deal with CIBC and have no problems.

What do you mean "works with PAYPAL"?
Are you transferring money to your bank account? |
cibc
|
when you withdraw money from paypal to your bank it HAS to go to the canadian account even if you have a usa account with your bank
I use royal bank btw because they have the best online system and answer e-mails in 24h if you have to go there physically forget it... |

they don't do business accounts. |
I just recently switched from CIBC to TD. It seems that to open a CIBC account you need to have good credit, even though you're not applying for any loans/lines of credit.
I was with cibc for about 6 YEARS and when i tried to open a business account, with a large chunk of cash too, they denied me. I went over to TD and in a matter of about 30 mins i had my business account opened.. So to make a long story short i ended up moving all my funds over to TD and im in the process of getting rid of any CIBC products i have. |

Maybe they stuck you on a shitty plan? I'm on the one that is supposed to be $14.50 a month, but as long as you keep just slightly over $5000 in your account they don't charge you anything at all. With the US account setup they don't charge you for depositing or transferring the US cheques either, which you probably already know. They were charging like $2.50 to do it for each check before I had the US account, which sucked ass. |

right now, im thinking scotia or royal.. which one? |
I use TD and PC (President's Choice Financial).
Both work great. |
I made the mistake of telling the business banking person at
Royal Bank what kind of business I was into. Next thing I know her boss calls me at home and starts asking all sorts of questions. I was honest with her and simply asked if they had a policy on this sort of thing because if they did I was never made aware of it and nor did I see any mention of it in their documentation that was given to me when i opened the business account. She told me that, yes they do have a policy but that she didn't know the specifics. I asked her to fax it to me. She said she didn't have it with her and that she'd have to look into it. A couple of weeks go by and I call and ask where the policy is. She says, oh, everything is fine. "We were concerned that you were doing something illegal and that you might be a credit risk. But we had our lawyers look into it and they confirmed that what you are doing is legal". I said "how can I be a credit risk when I don't have any credit with you guys?". She responded with "Oh, thats true". It was clear in the way that she spoke to me that her personal attitude about porn was getting in the way of her professional behaviour. - Johnny |
I'm not canadian. I can't help you.

Paypal deposits go in fine - just as sexyclicks mentioned, at the moment, no matter where you bank, if you are in Canada (paypal funds) get converted to Canadian Funds - and that's simply because that's one of the ways they make money :-) |
anyone dealt with alberta treasury branches?
|
I'm originally from Tennessee but married and moved to toronto a few years ago, we've used TD for several years and never had any problems with them on our U.S or Cdn. accounts.....also its no problem what so ever to open any accounts whether business or personal with TD....

check that out. it's the equivalent of having an american bank account, without american citizenship. you can write/cash american cheques without problem or delay. you can easily accept american wires, even from sponsors who only wire to american accounts. you get a visa check card which has the convienience of an interac card but the worldwide/online acceptability of a visa card. |
has anyone used alberta treasury branches? did u manage to withdraw money from paypal to the bank successfully?

I use TD and Royal Bank.
I get money on Royal Bank day before i get them on TD. But I don't like Royal Bank's service, and that most of their banks close at 4 so I moved to TD bank. Also with TD Bank they usually do not put hold on US checks. |
edit actually CIBC is real good with paypal, never had any probs at all,
just the bank hours suck dick heh. CIBC sux! use TD and thats it, only fuckin TD! |

I had an account with them in 2001 and they froze my account because "apparently" i was receiving too much money and i was operating my personal account like a "business account". I told them that it was big bullshit, that I was selfemployed and stuff. It was a big mess, they also froze my account at the TD in canada. And i had to fucking argue with them to get my money ASAP. I had more than $50k with them, and they treated me like shit. So i didn't have any bank account in Canada and I needed one :) so I went to CIBC and they refused to open an account because i had too much money for my age and blah blah blah - they didn't like me being upfront about "online adult marketing" revenues. I tried HSBC and they said they were going to get back to me - and next thing i know - the local police department wants to meet up with me because he was suspecting me doing money laundering. He end up calling ARS and asking questions... big shit. I then went to Bank of Montreal and decided to stay quiet about the "adult stuff" and they opened an account for me. I made an initial deposit of $100k when i opened the account - and they were really great! 2 months later - i opened a company account there. It was great - good service. The only thing i didn't like was the exchange rate US to CDN. It was always lower than RBC and other banks offered. 1 year after the account was opened and transacted over $1.5 Million into this company account. They refused to give me a $100 credit card limit because they found out I had revenues coming from the "adult business". 6 months later (and never had NSF checks) they decided to hold all the US checks for 30 working days - new bank policy. That's bullshit - so i closed the account. I sent all my money to my bank account at Bank Of America and CitiBank in the US - and it's been GREAT! So my suggestion - don't bother with Canadian Banks - they all suck... Cross the border, bring your incorporations paper or if it's a personal account your IDs and open an account there. And in case you are wondering - they can open Canadian checking account as well. :2 cents: |
