You won't believe this
after getting a quick 1am pizza after a night of drinking, I just found a fucking laptop, unattended in the stairway of my apartment building.
Dell inspiron 8000 feeling lucky today? some idiot will now hate himself for having lost his precious PC. and no, I won't try to fucking find the owner. shithead is not supposed to leave his laptop in a public stairway in a samsonite case. :glugglug |
nice!!!
|
dude that was my only laptop!
|
free computer rule.
if I wasn't drunk, I'd feel bad. :Graucho |
have you gone through the cache yet?
|
That kinda luck should be illegal!
Especially considuring the fact that I accidently tipped over a coca cola can on my inspiron sending it AWOL. |
IE, CTRL_H!
jus did that to my gf's computer the other day, found entries on google "how to seduce men" what the fuck! she got a bit embarrased. |
gotta be lots of interesting stuff to check out.
|
damn!
You are one lucky fuck |
yeah see what he has on there hahaha
|
I will report tomorrow morning, the PC has Win2k installed, I will see if I can get in without a login. :)
hahaha I still can't believe it. |
just wanted to see if it wasn't a pipebomb or an anthrax napkin.
|
i GUESS YOU NEED A NEW COMPUTER HEY?
|
check his h.disk, maybe he found the antivirus for SARS and you'll be responsible for the end of humanity by keeping a $2k laptop...
|
well, I turned it on, it runs Win XP Pro, the guy's user name is 'Ruff Ryder' and his password hint is 'electronic'.
I need some help here. I read that unupdated versions of XP have a security bug that enables people with a Win2k bootdisk to login as admin and access all the data without a password. Info, anyone? |
:-)
if it won't work, I'll just make it my linux box. :winkwink: |

Ahhh...another terrific boost to my overall opinion of mankind...nice work Equinox.
So, let's see...what are the possible scenarios...a stray computer left in a hallway...o.k. here's one...the owner was mugged and stabbed...the thief got cold feet and left the computer in the first building he could find and ran...Now. the victim is hurting badlyand out of his computer... Or here's another..the guy was carrying alot of stuff...put the computer down to get a better grip on the rest of his stuff, and then forgot his computer. Now YOU have his computer. What's the difference between scenario 1 and 2?...the victim doesn't get physically hurt in scenario 2, but the computer is still missing and the person who has it is still a thief. Do the right thing...try and find the owner. |

That's a piss-poor excuse. If you are at all concerned about who you really are, try to find out to whom it belongs. |
Send it to me and I will return it to the owner :winkwink:

i agree i would keep it too |
|
You could call Dell and run his serial number to get his info I'm sure.
I wouldn't keep it. If you bring it back to him you'll probably get some cash as a reward and can sleep better knowing you didn't ruin someone's life. A lot of people have everything that makes their world function in their computers. I could never steal someone's life like that. Just plain bad karma. Do the right thing and post a note in that area so he can get it back. |
There's quite a dichotomy I'm faced with in these types of situations.
One part of me thinks: "How would I feel if the situation was flipped, and I was the victim here?" Answer: Shitty And a clear, moral decision could be formed. On the other hand, another part of me thinks: "What would the typical human being do in a situation like this to me, if the situation was reversed?" Answer: Keep my shit And a clear, justifiably criminal act would occur. Finders keepers, it's the law of the land. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Most of the time, though, I can tell you, whenever the opportunity has been presented to me to exploit someone else's carelessness, I have always felt obligated to follow self-directed answer #1, and sometimes; I hate myself for it. |
About a month ago I got a call from the Amsterdam Police. Turned out my girlfriend had dropped her wallet containing about $120, a couple of credit cards and her housekeys in the street on her way to work....this guy found it and took it to the police station. It restored some of my lost faith in humanity.

'and hell followed with it.'

Equinox, when it comes time for sleep everynight, it is only you that has to live with yourself..............What goes around comes around...Do the right thing and find the owner...
Just my 2 cents |

2. Insurance Shit happens. I'd keep it (unless it was my neighbour or someone I knew ofcourse). And I'd sleep well at night too. |
|
as much as i'd like another laptop, i'd still be the better man and post a notice in my building to see whos it is to try and return it.
|
Just think how good you would feel if you found the owner and gave it back to him/her.
|
If you do post a note, don't say what it is.
"If you recently lost something, please see me in apt. XX." Make them tell you what they lost and describe it fully. You never know. It could be stolen - someone could have opened up the door to your building and tossed it in there because they thought they were being followed. Give the owner a chance to come get it from you, or look around on the computer and try to find out who he is and take it back. If he's like any of us, his whole life is on that machine. He could lose his job because of the data he's lost. It's damned expensive to replace a computer. Maybe it's the company's computer and now they'll take it out of his paycheck, which means a bunch of his bills won't get paid. Mother's Day is next weekend... Just give the damned thing back... after having a good look around on it. Look at the porn sites he visits and use the info to improve your business!! You never know, he may have already reported it to the insurance and they're giving him a brand new one that's bigger and faster, and he'll tell you to just keep it! Then you get a free laptop with no guilt attached. :thumbsup |
I'd return it because I already have a better laptop.. if I didn't I wouldn't. I'm an evil, evil man..

You make enough to buy a few of those, I'm sure. Give it back and let the guy's life become a little easier.

The best quote of the day...
"What goes around, comes around!" No doubt about that! Coming from experience... |
