Ya can stop calling yourself newbie after at least $100k in the bank.
And don't forget the Mercedes or some other high priced car in your garage.

You're a newbie until you have sued at least one of the program owners you know.

lol... they go by the names "asshole" %95 of the time and "theif" %5 of the time.

Bobby Fissure 04-30-2003 09:58 PM

When you can make a living more or less honestly. Some people have been doing this for years and are still newbies. Others join the dance and "get it" in a matter of weeks.

SleazyDream 04-30-2003 10:02 PM

you stop being a newbie when you don't feel the need to post on GFY anymore

SykkBoy 04-30-2003 11:36 PM

You stop being a newbie after either sending your first bulk mail, shave your first click/signup, hitbotted your first click through sponsor, cheated your first pay per signup sponsor fby offering the surfer free access to one of your site if they join this other site...

nah, actually, as a wise (maybe sometime delerious?) Russian once said "Newbie is a state of the mind..."

when one isn't considered a newbie, is generally a relative issue. for it isn't material wealth that determines one's status, it is the knowledge he possesses. quite typically however, society tends to morph our perspectives upon material weath and knowledge, as being the same entity. but there are those whom possess great knowledge, yet regard materialism as insignificant, hence they are materialistically poor.

But who the hell would have enough knowledge to make decent money, and just keep learning, but not actually use any of the methods?

I think the amount of money someone is making is kind of a meter of how knowledgeable they are.

thats true, but not quite...

i'm a pretty good example.. and i know others... and mainly, its all because of lazieness. im a good designer, i've managed a paysite/affiliate prog, i know exactly what to do but i'm just fuckin lazy. but thats partly cause i dont have the startup money, lol. but i've had plenty of projects that could have been successful but i quit on it cause of lack of interest / motivation. i know a few others like that too, i dont know how often this occurs amongst people.. but it does for me.

What if we knew the program owners before we started promoting them?

The day you cease to have anything left to learn is the day you are no longer a newbie - and also the day you should get out of the biz cuz it's over for you.
As the business is constantly changing and evolving at breakneck speed, there are always new things to learn and new ways to do old things. So if you think there aren't and you've got it all down, you've already been left behind.

You just said that the day there is nothing left to learn is the day you're not a newbie anymore, but then you said that since the biz is evolving all the time, there's always more to learn. So...everyone is always a newbie forever?

When you earn more doing this than you would working a regular day job, and that income is reasonable stable.

Dugmor 05-01-2003 12:46 AM

When you can wake up and sleep when ever you want .

When you can tell your employees they are late !

At first I thought you had a great answer, but then I remembered that some people luck out with some gimmick and can make some cash, without really learning a lot or expanding their business. I know I started that way.

Yeah. Just cause you're making $500 a month more than your friends who are working at Arby's is no reason to say you're not a newb any more.

sacX 05-01-2003 03:33 AM

Maybe if you got lucky spamming then you're a Level 2 Newb. Still a newbie, but not quite a brand spanking Level 1 Newbie.

AdultMovies.bz 05-01-2003 03:41 AM

not a newbie when:

A: You are no longer experimenting with pop-up sponsors.
B: When you earn enough to live your life on the porn income.

:)

Gunni 05-01-2003 03:57 AM

I think you stop being a newbie when you can see the TGP owners point of view :glugglug
