PCBBS is politically correct.

Holy shit.. check these fuckers out.
CDSmith mentions that he thinks Colin Powell is of negro descent. Uno replies it was jamaican.

Then a four page argument ensues that he is American.

So understand it now. You are NOT black. You are NOT jewish. You are NOT australian or english or any other fucking thing. If you're in the United States your ass is AMERICAN and thats it. Don't say anything else cause it's politically incorrect or just plain inaccurate. So sayeth the PCBBS.. so let it be.

Last time I checked creed and nationality were not required to be the same. So if So-damn-insane moved to the states and became a citizen, he'd be an American instead of a .. Oh I shouldn't say what I was going to, but it started with sand and ended not so nice ;)

I skimmed that thread at uno's request earlier, stupidity it was. (Not on uno's part)

Actually, "political correctness" would dictate that you DO refer to people with hyphenated extracttion; ie, "African-American", "Irish-American", "Mexican-American", etc.

"Politically incorrect" would be denying someone's ethnicity by attempting to "squash" their cultutal differences or beliefs.

Personally, I think it's all stupid. Hyphenating stuff does not help you "keep in touch with your roots", it only leads to divisiveness. If you were born in America, you are American. That's not a bad statement. If you don't like being American you are always free to emigrate elsewhere. If you come to the USA from elsewhere and become a citizen, you are American. So what? If you went to all the trouble of becoming a citizen, you obviously wanted to be an American.

Don't even get me started on those pretentious bullshit last names like "Smithfield-Corbenson" and "Hitzwelder-Marplethorpe".

Disclaimer: Sorry if I offend anyone with one of those pretentious bullshit last names. It probably isn't your fault, maybe not even your parents fault, but somewhere along the line you have a smarmy ancestor who could have used five across the eyes.

Edit: before I catch a lot of bullshit, I should point out that I am not 100% purebred American, either. My father is not from the USA and neither are my grandparents on my mother's side. I am Irish and Slovenian, but I above all I am American. That's just the way it is and it isn't a bad thing to be.

Yes it was one of those thread that started out just fine.

Da Uno started causing shit with just about anyone who would reply to him over there a few days ago.

Made such an ass of himself it doesn't matter much what he says now - they all just jump all over him.

He asked for it - takes a while for the young ones to learn I guess.

This is actually the reality of it. The USA has always and always will be a "melting pot". No matter where you come from, before you can become a citizen you take the pledge. Tell me, what does that pledge say about being an American?

Does it say that you renounce your ancestry ? When asked, you should not reply with "I'm Italian" or "I'm Jewish", but with I'm American ?

I think Dave got it right by admitting he was just arguing because people wanted to argue with Uno and the actual content of the argument didn't really matter.

If you say so. But seems to me like there is a lot more to it than that. You don't make friends well do you? Seems you could say how you feel without making so many people think you are foolish. I just read there where you said that "you were right" and they ALL were wrong? A little full of yourself aren't you?

I have plenty of friends. Try to find someone that went to vegas that didn't like me. Go ahead, try.

All that were arguing with me were wrong, yes. I don't consider that as full of myself.

No - I just write them...?

I'm not sure what your problem is - I don't recall ever having a conversation with you other than once about buying content from you. I'm not sure why you have a problem with me, or what you don't like about my posts.

If you agree with everything Uno says - I can understand why you wouldn't like me a bit though. :winkwink:

I think Dave got it right by admitting he was just arguing because people wanted to argue with Uno and the actual content of the argument didn't really matter.

Hm, I just went and read the first few posts in that thread. I think uno is right.

First off, no one is saying renounce your ancestry. Your ancestry is where you come from. It may be who your parents are. It isn't who you are. If you were born in America, you're American. To say Colin Powell is Jamaican is like saying Bush is African. Like it or not, it looks like we all come from Africa. How far back do you go to decide someone's status? If you want to play ancestry games, we're all Pangean and further back than that, we are all from the ocean (I'd say Oceanic, but that's already a name for a continent).

Ancestry is ancestry. It is what came before, not what is now.

It may not be politically correct to say so, but someone born in Georgia and raised in Utah is not African; or Irish; or Icelandic. You're an American who happens to be able to trace your family to Ireland or Iceland. There is nothing wrong with knowing your past or celebrating your traditions, but you're still American.

By the way, the word "American" by its very definition really means "Irish or African or Chinese or Icelandic or Scottish or Portugese or Brazilian or Mexican or Iraqi or Sudanese or Jordanian or Slovenian or Polish..." because that's what America is.

I don't have a problem, I just tired of all those political threads over there that seemed to always go the same way. I'm right, you're wrong, blah blah. Never understood the whole right wing left wing stuff, guess it's the fault of how our government is.

It isn't that I agree with everything that uno says, I just happen to agree with him on some or all of what he said in that thread (I didn't read the whole thread so I'm not commiting to all).

And that conversation was with my wife ;)

I'm still not real sure about the Pot and the Kettle crack -

especially from someone who doesn't understand "the whole right wing left wing stuff". It is the foundation for how decisions are made in this Country - you know, the 2-party system? The arguments between the 2 have been going on for over 200 years and provides the balance that keeps either side from going power crazy. It's a GOOD thing.

No offence - but you said yourself, you never even read the whole thread and are making judgements.

Peace
