Google now indexing HTTPS by default

https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...ult-21362.html

Wake up call for those who haven't made the switch to https for their online properties.

I've been running HTTPS Everywhere extension for so long that I forgot the web had http.

So then they just want you to have a secure domain and that takes precedence?

I did that this year!!! So yeahhhhh! Woo hoo.

Now I just gotta get with the times and be mobile ready.

clickity click 12-21-2015 02:23 AM

Is this recommended for all websites or just those with a database / those that have a members area etc.
For example if I have a 20 page, static HTML info page would that need to be https?

If it makes you more than $200 a year and you consider it a valuable domain you want to grow the value of? then yes

Well it's an info site so it doesn't make me anything.
I'm not bothered about growing the value of it either.

What I do want though is it to remain and improve in the Google rankings. It currently does well, I wish for that to continue.

I am guessing Google want to protect users search queries rather that protecting supplied credentials to a DB.
That's why they are moving to HTTPS. Therefore I will be making the switch although I don't like not being able to snoop on my visitors search queries in Statcounter.

Also, if you Google "google https"

It looks like the top indexed sites such as

Are not using https

So, based on these results I am not so sure.

Fucking stupid forum converting URL's to links. I just wanted to post the direct link so you could see that they are http, not https. Now you will need to mouseover.
I even tried putting in a quote and it still fucked it up.

xxxjay 12-21-2015 03:44 AM

Because it can be old little bit cost prohibitive, I would definitely do it on my "money sites"... If you had some feeders, I don't know that it would be worth the money

You have to get an SSL certificate.

blackmonsters 12-21-2015 08:47 AM

Google's moves may be helping some people but I feel like the search results aren't as good as they used to be.

Seems like the more stuff they add or tweak the less I like the search results.

I think they may have reached the point of diminishing returns. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminishing_returns

PornHub
Beeg
RedTube
YouPorn
Porn.com
XVideos
XNXX

None of them are using https. So I don't think it matters for porn (yet). I suppose it could theoretically give a little bump in the SERPs. But none of the above are relying on it to achieve their own rankings. :2 cents:

I don't understand? Is it really possible you don't know what a secure certificate is? Or are you just kidding me?

If you go to facebook you will see it's https facebook . com not http it's green and has a lock on the browser.

That tells you the site is secure, encrypted, all that bullshit.

Au contraire MMG, I know exactly what an SSL is and I know exactly what HTTPS is.
As previously posted though I googled HTTPS GOOGLE and got a bunch of news sites, listed on Page #1 for the search term HTTPS GOOGLE.
None of those sites actually used HTTPS despite talking about security.

I bought an SSL for a celebrity site I run and it didn't help worth a shit. It actually dropped me 500+ visitors a day for some reason. It isn't a special site or anything worth a hoot, but traffic is traffic. I could see pay sites even before you get to sign up part needing an SSL. A measly tube site? Or a blog to be treated like royalty to the holy Google? Fuck that shit.

Maybe they haven't made the change yet. I just know my site is https, not for any other reason than I needed a secure site so if it's true, awesome, if it doesn't matter then awesome too.

The article was just written, give it time.

I suspect there will be nastier surprises come 2016 c/o Google.

PBN's might be problematic....

You can get around a dropped domain filter?

I never did the dropped domain thing. I know that a lot of PBN guys are big on that. I saw it for what it was, it was an exploit that would work for only a limited period of time and them would be a big footprint issue later.

I was able to rank for "Charlie Sheen HIV" with the domain I'd only bought a few hours before. That was proved to me that in 2015 that expired domains aren't what they used to be

I thought about this a lot and this is my conclusion. Google is a publicly held company. It is the officers fiduciary responsibility to make that company grow every year. What Google can be taking in on search is basically maxed out. They aren't going to sell X% more adwords to satisfy investors.

Google is now primarily in the INFORMATION BUSINESS...
https://cloud.google.com/bigquery/

The big reason they want to move to the https encryption is because they will among the few people with the keys.

Same here, we've read about this so we decided to test it and we switched a couple of domains from http to https and they definitely lost a lot of rankings in google..
Kinda looks like google is treating them like new sites. Hoping rankings will be restored but for now we say f*ck switching to https
