Gwyneth Paltrow can't eat on $29/week...
Seems Gwyneth admitted defeat with her $29 food stamp challenge.
Was this a sly viral publicity to raise awareness...or another entitled celeb just attention whoring? Gwyneth Paltrow concedes defeat on $29 food stamp challenge | Entertainment & Showbiz from CTV News http://www.ctvnews.ca/polopoly_fs/1...._620/image.jpg |
She should have also gotten the commodities (government cheese) and other free shit poor people get.
|
I think her choices were good.
The comment about pasta is negated by the beans and rice she has. I don't know where they get the figure of $29 though; pretty sure I got more than that during my "OH SNAP" moment. :1orglaugh https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCJ8uiWUoAAQXqn.jpg |

I qualify as fucking poor in every way imaginable and don't have any cheese. |
This bitch has $29 and buys 7 limes but only 12 eggs... Try harder Gwynny. Here, these are $1 a piece so you can definitely stay under budget - Banquet: Boneless Pork Barbeque Sauce And Rib Shaped Patty w/Mashed Potatoes And Corn Meal, 10 Oz - Walmart.com

The cheese and other food comes directly from the US government. I guess there's an easy way to find out how to qualify for that in your area. |

Well I'll just consult with my local Black Catholic priest for that cheese. :1orglaugh |
There's no meat in that pork... and there are other tv dinners without meat. Stop being poor or learn to deal with it.
You don't have to talk to any priests. Catholic Charities Homepage | Catholic Charities USA But, like I said the government gives out the cheese. Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) | Food and Nutrition Service |

The wife and I just got back from a $70 meal (no drinks) at Mandarin Buffet in Niagara Falls.
Dear Gwyneth: the giant crab legs and shrimp were scrumptuous. :1orglaugh |

I'm sure something like that would be ideal for poor people wanting to supplement their veggie diet. But it all goes back to that old adage of teaching a man to fish as opposed to giving him a fish. |
Quote:
So basically you just want to argue about "lazy motherfuckers" and therefore don't accept her findings. BTW : All poor people know how to fish; but the rich man owns the pond. Fucking idiot ass cliche in this day and age. :2 cents: |

"...owns the pond" - really? Good fuckin' lord...what a crock of shit if you actually believe that malarky. It's called a fucking excuse to say 'pity me...pity me...the man is keepin' me down.' When my wife and I got married, we didn't have a penny between us. We ended up on gov't assistance for a short time while we scrambled to get our shit in order. We both worked part-time, menial jobs just to keep peanut butter in the cupboard. We scraped and saved just enough of a shoe-string budget to reg a website, create some unique content and get it off the ground. I worked 18-20 hour days between my part-time reno job and starting the company. For the first 3 years I went through hellacious sleep deprivation before we started seeing the payoff. So don't fucking tell me about some rich man owning the pond. That's a bullshit euphemism. I see the non-productive, baby-breeding "lazy motherfuckers" all day long in neighbourhoods across our city. People who have options - but opt not to take them because it means getting off their subsidized fat asses and getting their hands dirty. |

I think the whole idea that it is somehow a function of government to feed the poor is flawed to begin with. That should be left to charitable organizations.
Honestly if we really want to solve the problems presented by hunger and poverty we have to start by putting an end to rewarding people for having children that they cannot afford. Forget the racial nonsense because this crosses almost all racial lines. Simply put you get a raise by having more kids that you can support without more government handouts, these kids grow up in the system and all too often grow up to do the same thing. This culture has to stop because at some point the system will collapse. Now I will be the first to say that to stop it cold turkey so to speak would be cruel but we have to start thinking and looking forward and phase this type of thing out entirely. |

You might wanna try pestering the church a little more about it - if you have the inclination and motivation. Maybe if they see how determined you are...they'll come to realize what a great offer it is. Best of luck on it... :) |

PS: I had bucket of organic fried chicken and 3 dollar bottle of Chablis. |

The problem isn't how do we feed the poor and hungry, it is how to we put an end to that need. There are always going to be people who get injured or sick and are in a bad situation to no fault of their own, but there are plenty of people who are just milking the system. A friend of mine worked a grocery for several years. One of their regular customers was a woman who had three kids from three different dads and was on welfare/food stamps. One day she came in and was beaming with pride and couldn't wait to tell my friend how her oldest daughter was 17 and had gotten knocked up and just got her "benefits." She was proud like her daughter was following in the family business. That is the kind of stuff we need to find a way to put an end to. |

So like $25 for the chicken and $3 for the wine. :) |

Not disparaging the homeless. They probably qualify for welfare, food stamps, and any other subsidies. They will have opportunities for low cost housing. People are out there offering them hot meals and cots. I think we're talking about the working poor; those with homes and jobs that still fall under the poverty line. |
