I think I speak for the majority of Americans who believe it's not the flag as an object that offends us when we see it being burned. It's the mentality and insult that's in the gesture that we take offense to.

Well, you would know better than I that Mr. Lennon was a bit of a hothead himself, and held some long grudges.

But the late 60's/early 70's were so much different than today, as you pointed out, that it would be impossible to tell where he would stand on this. John was anti-war, that much is undisputable. However, Vietnam is not the same as what's going on here.

My question is... what would John have thought, being a friend of NY, had he seen the towers come down after the city was attacked? He was pissed at Paul for quite some time, and that was just petty bullshit.

Flag burning is simply a very POOR form of protest. Not effective at all. Why? Because it only works in a counterproductive way. You're not changing anyone's mind or even making them think deeper. You're simply turning more people against your cause.
