Yeah, sure, but it was just a matter of a couple of years, I've heard he only had to stay away 1 more year. I'm sure that's better than prison and also paying up a lot of money.

He should rot in jail for a long time, while he was at the helm of The Pirate Bay it was used to distribute torrent files of a lot worse material than simply pirated tv shows and movies.

Even after being cleaned up The Pirate Bay is a site which revels in breaking the law, it even deliberately designs systems specifically tailored to evade prosecution such as it's distributed model and the various other systems that keep this scourge on the Internet going.

Let's not forget that these guys also spawned a hosting company (PRQ) that right now hosts child pornography, cryptolocker command and control servers, credit card theft forums and other nasty cybercriminal operations. They claim they will host anything.

These guys represent everything that is bad about the Internet.

No it's not legal in Sweden, this is what the sites do.

They host a normal looking site at PRQ, then they run it for a little while as normal. Then they switch content and redirect other domains to that site. PRQ don't care what's hosted there. It can take months to act on some of these sites. By the time the site has been killed another pops up.

edit: we have several sites in our database (forums mainly) linking to bestiality and worse which are hosted at PRQ and have been for more than a year.

He will buy his way out and vanish again.

Because they make a nice chunk of cash from companies like Exoclick and have been able to use technology to avoid being able to be taken down. However The Pirate Bay is far from the worst tracker there is - there are some that make The Pirate Bay look small time.

And they are what? TPB is one of the biggest, so not sure which could make it look small time. Unless you are talking about questionable content and not the volume of pirated content.

No, I am talking volume. There are trackers that have a greater volume of material than The Pirate Bay.

The Pirate Bay have had several domains seized but they use a distributed hosting model which means if one host is taken down it can be replaced quickly by another.

The key here is to (a) prosecute anyone involved with The Pirate Bay and lock them up and (b) keep seizing their domains.

I would think that the conscious users of the software maybe the guilty or just as as there is a lot of grey area here. A gun maker isn't automatically guilty of murder or a gun designer. At what point does the user need to take responsibility? Youtube started similar and possible to send files with icq etc. wondering if there is still a future in the functionality of the software or whether it will eventually be illegal so send a file eg: Not downloaded from an approved site. Not defending the guy that is lawyers job. The site is still hosted so if anything could really be done the site would have been shut down long before an arrest. New names etc isn't stopping them. It has continued to run under new names. Just think the net is getting further censored as a way of prevention rather than an answer to the solution. Nice to think that you can make something and it will be yours without it being ripped off but it is every industry and it is the arts which gets the most attention and prevention. Patents are ripped off daily in plastics industries most likely costing as much as entertainment losses. Problem with most pirated industries the people don't know they have a counterfeit. Deception is the objective to counterfeiting but pirating downloads is finding willing parties that can make any host an accessory to their actions. Not defending just wondering how the big picture will look like.
