A 15-year-old Army cadet who was selling poppies for Remembrance Day suffered burns to his face in an attack with a lit aerosol can.

The boy, who was wearing his uniform, was at a bus stop near Manchester Art Gallery at 18:00 GMT on Saturday when he was attacked.

Police said a man lifted an aerosol can and a lighter and sprayed him with lit fumes.

The cadet suffered burns to his face and singed hairs, officers confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police said the offender, described as black or Asian, 5ft 8in tall and wearing a dark hooded top, then walked off without saying a word.

My parents were Irish, but I was born and raised in the UK so I've always been British. But not every immigrant community sees it the same way. Some are more willing to assimilate than others.

People who are against immigration are mainly against certain RELIGIOUS groups moving in, regardless of race. Disliking the proliferation of extreme Islam doesn't make one a racist, it merely makes you someone who opposes a group whose goals are pretty much to eradicate democracy and introduce Sharia law. Islam is NOT compatible with democracy. "Islamophobes", if you wish to call them that, generally have no problem with moderate muslims, who adapt to the society they live in.

It's the same thing all over Europe, pretty much. Many anti-immigration parties have gained bigger and bigger followings in the last decade or so. Is it that 10% of the population turned "racist" between elections? Many of those who switched party allegiance didn't do so because they agree with those parties economic or social policies. In fact many of those think those policies suck balls. They switched allegiance because the immigration sailed up as the most important issue for them. Yet the long-established parties (especially the socialist and liberal ones) keep turning a blind eye to these facts and ostracize above-mentioned parties, because they're scared shitless of being labeled as racists themselves.

I'd say it's definitely worse.

Just wanted to point out, for those who may have missed it, that the above aren't some wehateporn style teenfoil hat pieces. They're programs made by the BBC, probably the world's most respected news organization. Which, I'd like to think, is fairly impartial and objective.

Back to the general immigration issue, statistics show that immigration is actually financially profitable for most countries. A much larger percentage of immigrants, compared to the indigenous population, start small and medium sized businesses. These provide jobs, even if mostly to other immigrants. Nevertheless they contribute to the economy, as people get a paycheck and pay taxes, instead of an unemployment check.

Was there any mass migration in the history of the world that didn't create issues? In the US, history is full of large groups entering anf being the low-life's for a while. It is the way it works.
